Toronto Centre Island Walk Around Toronto Islands
#toronto #torontoislands #torontoisland #centreisland #torontotravel #canada #travel #worldtravel #travelworld #vacation #worldtravel #ontario
Centre island is the middle of the three primary Toronto Island destinations. It's sandwiched between Ward's Island on the east and Hanlan's Point on the west.
Boats go more often to Centre than the other islands because it's the most popular. You will find fountains, formal gardens, Centerville Amusement Park, a pier that extends into Lake Ontario, a sandy beach, picnic areas, Franklin's Children's Garden and many other attractions.
The ferry ride to Centre is 10-15 minutes from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. See Toronto Islands ferry schedule.
Many people who visit Centre Island go there to cook something on the barbie, have a family picnic on the island, have fun at Centreville Park, visit the petting zoo, go the beach or just walk around and enjoy some quiet time away from the city. You can grab a pizza by the ferry docks or by the pier - both are Pizza Pizza outlets - or you can eat at one of many other restaurants, and snack bars, some of them licensed. The busiest restaurants on Centre Island are the Carousel Cafe and the new Toronto Island BBQ & Beer Co. adjacent to the Centre Island ferry docks. The boathouse is also located on Centre Island.
Centre Island is also home to the Island Public and Natural Science school that goes up to grade six. Its students either live on the Island or in apartments and condos along the waterfront. They come to school each morning on the ferry! There is also a water treatment facilty, facility on Centre along with Artscape's Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts, an artist's retreat with studio rentals. The Gibraltar Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes dating back to 1808. It is rumoured that the ghost of JP Rademueller, the first lighthouse keeper who was murdered by two soldiers at Fort York, comes back every summer to haunt the lighthouse,. On the night of a full moon, his screams can be heard from one end of the Island to the other.

Powerboating To Toronto Islands
SUBSCRIBE TO OUR NEWSLETTER — Everything to know about Toronto, in your inbox Saturday morning:
We tour Toronto Islands in a powerboat— basically a small motorboat.
Powerboats can be rented from the Harbourfront Centre (info: or 416-203-3000) as long as you have a drivers license.
It's a really fun way to enjoy the harbour— and not as intimidating as you might think. Operating the boat is simple and navigating around the harbour is very straightforward. It's a great way to experience the islands.
This would be really fun for:
1. Parents taking their kids — I didn't think to say this on the video but I think kids would LOVE doing this.
2. Dates — This would be a really fun thing to do for a date. Instead of dropping $80 on a dinner or a night at a cocktail bar, take your date to the Toronto Islands to see the sunset.
3. Showing a visitor Toronto — Being on a boat in the harbour was a first for me and I was surprised at how dramatic the views of the skyline are from a small boat. It feels different from being on the Toronto Islands ferry somehow.

Toronto Islands, Ontario - Canada HD Travel Channel
The Toronto Islands are a recreation area close to the banks of Lake Ontario. Like many cities in the world, the former docks have been developed as a tourist attraction and as an exclusive residential area. An apartment with a terrace in a building on the lakeshore costs several million Canadian dollars.
From here we took the ferry along the waterfront and reached the Toronto Islands in approx 10 minutes. From that perspective we had an overwhelming sight of the city . The skyline gives us the illusion of being in a big city in the U.S. and not in Canada.
The Toronto Islands are car-free and an ideal place for city dwellers, to reduce daily stress. They were formed in 1858 after a storm, when the tide of the Don River separated the peninsula from the mainland. Who is considered somebody has a boot in one of these marinas.
Even today, the Islands are indispensable as beach protection during storms. But even as a sanctuary for many water birds such as cormorants, herons and the rare Eastern Bluebird the islands perform an important task.
In the summer months, some citizens of Toronto rent their homes and live on the Islands in houseboats.
Here one can practice all kinds of water sports. The infrastructure for the life on the islands is supported by facilities such as a fire station, churches, restaurants and shops.

Hidden Village on Toronto Islands - Ward's Island Community
#toronto #torontoisland #wardisland #torontotravel #canada #torontoislands #travel #worldtravel #travelworld #vacation #worldtravel #ontario
Ward's Island community began in the 1880s as a tent community. William E. Ward built the Ward's Hotel and a few houses and rented tents to visitors.
Ward's Island is on the east side of the islands, served by the Ward's Island ferry. Unlike Hanlan's Point and Centre Island that are full of picnic areas and BBQ sites, this is the residental part of the island where fewer tourists venture.
Directly across the ferry terminal is the Island Cafe, a soccer field and the Ward's Island Association Clubhouse.
The Toronto Island community is at the eastern end of the Toronto Island Park. People live on Ward's and Algonquin Islands. There are 262 homes and roughly 650 people who live on the Island, including many seniors. As the community has no stores, and no cars (or public transportation), life is very different for Islanders. It can be difficult for seniors, but the hardy ones stay!

Toronto Island Ferry, Ontario, Canada
Within a short distance from the mainland, Toronto has several islands that are ideal for sightseeing and for hosting festivals throughout the year. The Toronto Island Ferry Dock is located at the intersection of Bay Street and Queens Quay West. Seeing the port city of Toronto by boat gives you a panoramic glimpse of the city's distinctive skyline. Numerous yacht clubs produce a landscape that literally dances with sailboats. There's always a lot to see during the 15-minute voyage to Center Island.
Toronto Islands at Christmas - City Cycling (4K)
This video shows my December 22th, 2018 bike exploration of Algonquin and Wards Island in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The video begins at the Wards Island Ferry Dock. With Christmas only a few days away, I was interested to see how the island has been decorated for Christmas. Happy Holidays from cjhoyle!
The bike I was riding is a New York made Linear Recumbent Bike which I believe is from around 2004. I filmed this using my new Yi 4K+ action camera mounted to the main frame tube of the bike at the front using a custom made bracket. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone.
