Il 6 gen.2014 a Venezia, in Piazza San Marco la tradizione vuole che dalla Torre dell'Orologio, allo scoccar dell'ora dei bronzei Mori, appaiano i Remagi, per salutare la Vergine Maria e il Piccolo Gesù, I 3 gran personaggi dell' Epifania escono da una porticina laterale preceduti da un Angelo con tromba, si inchinano innanzi a Gesù e Maria e rientrano nell'antica Torre. La Torre dell'Orologio è un edificio rinascimentale situato in piazza San Marco. Il quadrante dell'orologio è in oro e smalto blu; segna ora, giorno, fasi lunari e zodiaco. L'Orologio è dotato anche di un meccanismo a carillon, attivato tradizionalmente solo nei giorni dell'Epifania e dell'Ascensione. A ogni scoccare delle ore, il pannello laterale delle ore si apre per lasciar passare un carosello di statue in legno rappresentanti i personaggi della Natività e i Re Magi. Famosi sono i cosiddetti Mori di Venezia, soprannominati così per il loro colore bruno dai Veneziani. Posti alla sommità della Torre su una terrazza, sono due statue di bronzo raffiguranti due pastori che battono con una mazza le ore su una grande campana. (wikipedia)

La Torre dell'Orologio di Venezia
La torre fu costruita tra il 1496 e il 1499 dall'architetto Mauro Codussi.
L'Orologio oltre a segnare le ore, i giorni e i mesi dell'anno, le fasi lunari, la disposizione delle costellazioni è dotato anche di un meccanismo, situato ai lati della statua della Madonna, che segna in modo digitale, per mezzo di due tamburi rotanti con dei pannelli con le ore in numeri romani e i minuti (divisi a 5 minuti) in numeri arabi (in questo video che ho trovato su youtube si vedono bene ). Il giorno dell'Epifania, ad ogni scoccare di ora, il pannello laterale delle ore si apre per lasciare passare un corteo di statue in legno rappresentanti un angelo e i Re Magi. Le statue, trascinate da un meccanismo a binario lungo la piattaforma semicircolare posta sopra al quadrante, rientrano poi nella Torre attraverso il pannello laterale dei minuti situato dal lato opposto dell'orologio dopo esser passate davanti alla statua della Madonna col Bambino.
Le ore sono battute 2 minuti prima dello scoccare esatto dal moro di destra, raffigurato come un anziano con la barba, che rappresenta il tempo passato e poi all'ora esatta dal moro di sinistra, un giovane, che rappresenta il tempo presente.
Dietro la campana sono posti due martelli che battono in rapida successione 132 colpi a mezzogiorno e a mezzanotte, somma totale di tutti i colpi battuti in un giorno.
La campana venne fusa nel 1497 da Simone Campanato o Dalle Campane, su disegno di Pietro Lombardo, nella fonderia dell'Arsenale.

The Clock Tower in Venice is an early Renaissance building on the north side of the Piazza San Marco, at the entrance to the Merceria. It comprises a tower, which contains the clock, and lower buildings on each side. It adjoins the eastern end of the Procuratie Vecchie. Both the tower and the clock date from the last decade of the 15th century, though the mechanism of the clock has subsequently been much altered. It was placed where the clock would be visible from the waters of the lagoon and give notice to everyone of the wealth and glory of Venice. The lower two floors of the tower make a monumental archway into the main street of the city, the Merceria, which linked the political and religious centre (the Piazza) with the commercial and financial centre (the Rialto). Today it is one of the 11 venues managed by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
On a terrace at the top of the tower are two great bronze figures, hinged at the waist, which strike the hours on a bell. One is old and the other young, to show the passing of time and, although said to represent shepherds (they are wearing sheepskins) or giants (they are huge figures of great mass, necessary so that their form can be recognized at a distance) they are known as the Moors because of the dark patina acquired by the bronze. The bell is also original and is signed by one Simeone who cast it at the Arsenal in 1497.
Below this level is the winged Lion of Saint Mark with the open book, before a blue background with gold stars. There was originally a statue of the Doge Agostino Barbarigo (Doge 1486-1501) kneeling before the lion, but in 1797, after the city had surrendered to Napoleon, it was removed by the French, who were purging the city of all symbols of the old regime.
Below again, is a semi-circular gallery with statues of the Virgin and Child seated, in gilt beaten copper. On either side are two large blue panels showing the time: the hour on the left in Roman numerals and the minutes (at 5 minute intervals) on the right in Arabic numerals. Twice a year, at Epiphany (6 January) and on Ascension Day (the Thursday 40 days after Easter, counting both days) the three Magi, led by an angel with a trumpet, emerge from one of the doorways normally taken up by these numbers and pass in procession round the gallery, bowing to the Virgin and child, before disappearing through the other door.

Progettata alla fine del XV sec. da Mauro Codussi, con il suo grande Orologio astronomico, capolavoro di tecnica e di ingegneria, la Torre è un irrinunciabile elemento dell'immagine stessa di Venezia e ne segna, da oltre cinquecento anni, la vita, la storia e il continuo scorrere del tempo. Il percorso di visita, solo su prenotazione e con accompagnatore specializzato, consente di osservare da vicino i complessi meccanismi dell'orologio e di uscire sulle terrazze da cui si gode una splendida vista su Piazza San Marco e sull'intera città.
Clock Tower
It is one of the most original buildings of Venetian architecture of the early Renaissance. Designed at the end of the 15th century by Mauro Codussi, with its great astronomical Clock, a masterpiece of technique and engineering, the Tower is an essential feature of the image of Venice and for over 500 years it has marked its life, history and the continual passage of time. The tour, which must be pre-booked with a specialised guide, allows visitors to observe the complex mechanisms of the clock from close-up and to step out onto the terrace which offers a splendid view over St. Mark's Square and the entire city.

Finally, there was that fanciful structure in the Piazza -Torre Dell'Orologio (Clock Tower), which had two great bronze figures, hinged at the waist, strike the hours on a bell. One is old and the other young, to show the passing of time and, although said to represent shepherds (they are wearing sheepskins) or giants (they are huge figures of great mass, necessary so that their form can be recognized at a distance) they are always known as the Moors because of the dark patina acquired by the bronze. The bell is also original and is signed by one Simeone who cast it at the Arsenal in 1497. [source: wikipedia]
It was hard to capture the Moors in motion and after several attempts, below video was the best result I had.
