Las Torres de Serranos de Valencia.
Son,junto con las Torres de Cuart,las únicas Puertas que quedan de las doce que custodiaban la ciudad amurallada de Valencia durante muchos siglos.Comezaron las obras en abril de 1392 y en marzo del año 1398 concluyeron.

The Serrans Gate or Serranos Gate, also known as Serrans Towers or Serranos Towers is one of the twelve gates that formed part of the ancient city wall, the Christian Wall, of the city of Valencia, Spain.
Torres de Serranos was built in Valencian Gothic style at the end of the 14th century (between 1392 and 1398). Its name is probably due to its location in the northeast of the old city centre, making it the entry point for the royal road (camí ral) connecting Valencia with the comarca or district of Els Serrans (along the road going northwest towards the mountains around Teruel and eventually leading to Saragossa) as well as the entry point for the royal road to Barcelona, or because the majority of settlers near there in the time of James I of Aragon were from the area around Teruel, whose inhabitants were often called serrans (mountain people) by the Valencians. Alternatively, the gate may also have been named after an important family, the Serrans, who lived in a street with the same name.
Torres de Serranos is an important landmark and one of the best preserved monuments of Valencia. Of the ancient city wall, which was pulled down in 1865 on the orders of the provincial governor Cirilio Amorós, only the Serrans Towers, the 15th century Quart Towers, and some other archaeological remains and ruins, such as those of the Jewish Gate (Puerta de los Judíos), have survived. The Torres de Serrans were built in the 14th century, 1392, by Pere Balaguer. It was the main entrance to the city and it was originally built with a defensive function. From 1586 until 1887 the towers were used as a prison for nobles.

It is considered one of Valencia's most iconic buildings and is one the best conserved monuments in the city.

La Puerta de Serranos (Torres dels Serrans en valenciano), es una de las doce puertas que custodiaban la antigua muralla cristiana de la ciudad de Valencia, España. Es de estilo gótico valenciano, de finales del siglo XIV (años 1392 a 1398). Su nombre parece provenir de su situación, al noroeste del casco antiguo, como entrada natural que comunicaba con los caminos que iban a la comarca de Los Serranos (el camino real de Zaragoza, que confluía en este punto también con el camino real de Barcelona). Otra teoría supone que pudo tomar el nombre de la principal familia que habitaba la calle homónima.
Es un gran referente de la ciudad de Valencia y uno de sus monumentos mejor conservados. De la antigua muralla, que se empezó a derribar en 1865 por orden del gobernador de la provincia Cirilo Amorós, solamente quedan estas torres y las de Cuart (del siglo XIV), además de algunos otros vestigios y restos arqueológicos como la Puerta de los Judíos, actualmente plaza de los Pinazo.
Declaradas Monumento Histórico Artístico Nacional en 1931, estas torres son parte de las murallas cristinas de la época medieval, al igual que lo fueran las Torres de Quart , y estas puertas eran el símbolo de su poderío e importancia. Pere Balaguer, inspirado en otras puertas góticas, las empezó a construir de mayor tamaño aún que aquellas en abril de 1392 y nacen como defensoras de uno de los accesos más usados de la Valencia antigua. Desde 1586 hasta 1887 son utilizadas como cárcel de nobles.

In this video, I will be sharing part 5 of my travel series in Valencia, Spain (2016).
Day 5 in Valencia, Spain :
We took the train from Cullera to Valencia North Station and walked through Valencia. We walked through the old town visited the Cathedral, climbs the steep and spiral staircase of 207 stairs of Torre del Micalet ( Also known as El Miguelete is a gothic-style bell tower of Valncia's Cathedral) and ended our visit at Torres de Serranos. Unfortunately, we didn't go up the to see the beautiful view of the city from Torres de Serranos but it's something I'd definitely recommend.
*The quality of my phone wasn't the best, but I did the best with the tools I had. Enjoy and leave this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it :).
