The MOST BEAUTIFUL place in Mexico
We've traveled all over Mexico but Bacalar, a Pueblo Mágico, might be the most beautiful place we've seen yet!
►Learn Spanish like us:
It was basically love at first sight when we arrived in Bacalar. The lagoon of 7 colors stole our hearts immediately. The crystal clear waters of Bacalar Lagoon were so beautiful and refreshing. We spent 5 days in this Pueblo Mágico at an Airbnb right on the lagoon. Although it wasn't ideal to share an outdoor bathroom and shower here, we loved having direct access to the lagoon. We went kayaking any chance we got—Laska even came too and she had the time of her life!
During our stay in Bacalar, we also found some incredible food at local restaurants, took a sunrise paddleboarding tour, and went to the Fort of San Felipe. There's not a whole lot going on in the town of Bacalar, but that didn't bother us. We could hardly keep ourselves from swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding on the lagoon.
------OUR MINI GUIDE TO BACALAR, QUINTANA ROO------
WHERE TO STAY IN BACALAR
1. You will likely find the most affordable rental options on Airbnb. If you're new to Airbnb, you can save $40 when you sign up with our link. We'll get a $20 credit.
WHERE TO EAT IN BACALAR
1. La Playita - this restaurant sits right on Bacalar Lagoon. You can sit under the canopy of the giant tree on the property at one of the many tables with a view of the waters. The food and drinks are incredible! You can also snap some pictures out on the dock. It's especially pretty at sunset.
2. La Piña - This restaurant was our go-to spot for breakfast. They make some flavor-packed breakfast dishes that are crave-worthy! We recommend trying one their Smoothies Borrachos which have perfect combinations of fruit and a bit of liquor.
3. Mango & Chile - You'll find this restaurant right next to the Fort of San Felipe near the center of town. They make some great lattes and have allergy-friendly options.
4. El Manatí - We enjoyed eating our breakfast here because they have a lush outdoor garden area. The coffee was very tasty, too!
WHAT TO DO IN BACALAR
1. Sunrise Paddle Boarding - We had an unforgettable time on Antonio's tour. He took us out before the sun came up so we could see it rise over the lagoon. Later on, we got to see Cenote Esmerelda and Cenote Negro. Before going back, we enjoyed some snacks while floating on our paddle boards in shallow lagoon waters. It was an all-around 5-star experience. Book his tour here:
2. Kayaking - You can rent kayaks all over the lagoon and it's a great way to explore more of the lagoon. It's so different depending on where you are!
3. See cenotes - If you don't take Antonio's tour (above) we think it's worthwhile to see the two cenotes that are in (yes, IN) Bacalar Lagoon. Before this, we'd never experienced anything like that before.
4. Visit the Fort of San Felipe - Located near the town center, the fort was used to watch for pirates that tried to invade Bacalar many years ago. It costs ~100 pesos for foreigners and 50 pesos for Mexicans.
5. There are SO many more things to do in Bacalar that we didn't get to experience since we only had 5 days there. We recommend going out and exploring some on your own to find other things you'd enjoy doing.

TELCEL in MEXICO - Our Personal Experience
What happened AFTER our 1st time at the movies, switching phone service, etc. while living in Mexico?
► Learn Spanish like us!
We've been living in Guadalajara Mexico for a few months now. During that time, we: switched from Tmobile to Telcel phone service in Mexico; got a year's pass to MiBici in Guadalajara, Mexico; went to the movies for the first time in Mexico; and created dozens and dozens of videos about our daily life in Mexico.
For a while now, a lot of you guys have been asking how these things are turning out. Do we like our cell service in Mexico? Where will we be traveling in Mexico next? Did we ever figure out the movie theaters here? Do we use/like Mibici?
Today we're giving you ALL the updates we could think of (and that you guys have been asking for a while now) about what it's like living in Mexico and how we've been managing. We also tried to throw in some place we like to eat, our thoughts on the Guadalajara elections, and as much randomness as we could cram into one video.
Did we answer all your lingering questions? If not, let us know in the comments!

The tooth implants allow you to eat without any pain and with as much confidence as never before
A large number of Americans suffer from tooth loss despite the major improvements in dental care. This tooth loss is as a result of injury, tooth decay or gum disease. Dentures and bridges were, for many years, the only treatment options for those who had missing teeth.
Dental implants
Dental implants do not require any reduction done on the other teeth, as a tooth-supported bridge does.
Individual teeth implants also allow easier access between teeth.
With the necessary proper care, dental tooth implants can last for a very long time. The rates of successful implants vary since it depends on where exactly the implants are positioned. Generally though, there is a success rate of 98%.
You might be wondering what are dental implants. Dental implants are one of the most preferred treatments to restore looks and functionality to your mouth. They are small titanium screws that are set into the bone in the gums (either upper and lower) that will function like the root of your missing teeth. On top of the dental implant the dentists will place an abutment (conector) that will serve as the base for a porcelain crown.
Dental teeth implant are usually made of titanium, but they can also be made out of Zirconia. Titanium is regarded as the best material for implants in the human body because it doesn’t oxide and breakdown like other metals. In the past, steel implants were attempted but these were rejected a lot by the immune system. Instead.

Welcome to Bio Implant Center in Tijuana Mexico
For many years people having been crossing the US/Mexico border to head to Tijuana which is well-known as an “insider’s secret” for excellent – and affordable – medical care, enabling visitors from the U.S. and other countries to have access to top-quality dental care for a fraction of what it would cost in their home countries.
The most popular type of medical care being sought in Tijuana is dental care – and more specifically, affordable, state-of-the-art dental implants.
Dental implants have revolutionized dentistry, helping men and women regain both function and confidence following tooth loss. But the cost of dental implants can be steep – and most dental insurance plans simply don’t cover the costs of the procedure.

We are also passionate about biological dentistry, respecting the relationship between oral and overall health and look beyond the mouth in order to provide you and your family with the best possible dental care. Our dentists are mindful of the treatments we offer and the materials we use in order to work in harmony with the whole body.
What sets us apart from other dental clinics here in Tijuana is that we are not just a dental clinic that treats teeth. We are a dental family that treats patients. My team and I want the best for our patients in terms of the quality of dentistry we provide, and the environment in which we provide it. We give our patients confidence and long-term peace of mind, which is why they have been coming back to Tijuana for many years to work with me.

The REAL DANGERS of MEXICO
After living in Mexico for 2 years, we've realized not everything the US media told us is true. The REAL dangers in Mexico might surprise you.
►Protect yourself online with this:
Before living in Mexico, we heard things about Mexico from the US news and on social media. The way they portray this country, people are led to believe that cartel violence is a widespread, commonplace thing in Mexico. Although cartels are present in Mexico, we think there are far more common concerns for travelers and expats living here.
A few of the REAL DANGERS of MEXICO we discuss in this video are:
- Driving habits and road conditions in Mexico
- Crooked cops (and bribes)
- Taxi drivers
- Financial dangers of Mexico
- Diseases and bugs
- Natural disasters in Mexico
- and more!
We hope this video helps tourists, travelers, retirees, and future expats who might have reservations about what daily life is like in Mexico (and what dangers the average person might face.) Truth be told, I wish WE had seen a video like this before traveling to Mexico so we were better prepared to explore the country.

In December 2019, I got plastic surgery in Mexico. - How much is surgery in Mexico? (Cost of surgery, appointments, blood testing, prescriptions)
- Is surgery in Mexico safe?
- What is a hospital visit in Mexico like?
- What did I think of getting plastic surgery in Cancun?
- Who is my plastic surgeon in Cancun?
- Do I recommend getting cosmetic surgery abroad?
- And more
Did we answer all your questions about my experience getting explant surgery in Mexico? If not, please let us know in a comment. We hope to help others make an informed decision about medical tourism in Mexico.

The media paints Mexico as a dangerous place, so we had lots of fears about traveling through the country. After living here for 15 months, our fears about Mexico have changed.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Our story goes like this...
In January of 2018, we made the bold decision to sell everything we owned and leave our lives in the United States to travel through Mexico. All we could take with us in our tangerine-colored Prius C was a few suitcases and our husky Laska.
This Mexico travel video is broken up into 4 sections. Our fears/concerns:
1. Before crossing the border into Mexico;
2. After crossing the border and 1 month into our travels;
3. 6 months after starting to travel Mexico; and
4. In the present day (15 months after living in Mexico).
Some of the fears and concerns we discuss in this vlog:
- Is Mexico as dangerous as the media leads people to believe?
- Do tourists / travelers have to worry about violence in Mexico?
- Is Mexico filled with crooked cops?
- What are the roads like in Mexico? Will our car be okay driving them?
- Is the food / water safe in Mexico?
- Is it a huge mistake to quit our careers and leave our comfortable life in the US to start traveling in Mexico?
- What is it like driving in Mexico? How do we avoid accidents?
- Do we have to worry about military checkpoints in Mexico?
- Are roadblocks in Mexico cause for concern?
- Can we stay in Mexico legally?
- Should we worry about scams in Mexico?
- How do we get packages and deliveries in Mexico?
After 15 months living in Mexico, we realize that some of our initial fears were unfounded and others were legitimate. What we can say with certainty, however, is that how Mexico is portrayed in the media is night and day compared to reality.

GOING TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM IN MEXICO ... AGAIN!!
We had to see specialists & get TONS of testing—all with no insurance. How much did it cost in Mexico?
►Learn Spanish like us!
One morning in Mexico, Jordan realized something wasn't right. He felt lightheaded, difficulty breathing, and tingly limbs. Soon, he felt he might pass out at any second. Without hesitation, we rushed to the closest emergency room in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. We later found out this was a private hospital.
We were very nervous that no one would speak English there and we were both flustered and panicked. All our Spanish skills wouldn't have been very helpful in this high-stress situation. Thankfully, a lady at the reception spoke English and set us up with an English-speaking doctor.
Over the next week or so, Jordan had various blood/urine tests run, an organ ultrasound, an EKG, and a glucose test. He saw a radiologist in Puerto Morelos and a cardiologist in Playa del Carmen.
Watch today's Mexico travel vlog to find out all the details of this scary experience. We share things like:
- What are doctors in Mexico like
- Are Mexican doctors well-trained
- What is it like going to a doctor in Mexico
- Healthcare cost in Mexico
- Our experience at a Mexico emergency room
This is our second time going to a hospital in Mexico. The last time was in Tapalpa, Jalisco at a public hospital, which was a completely different experience. You can watch that video here:

why we live in mexico and not in the united states
We REGRET not moving to Mexico sooner. This is why we're thankful to be living in Mexico now.
►Learn Spanish like us!
On January 31st, 2018 we packed up our tangerine-colored Prius and left the United States to travel in Mexico. A couple hundred Mexico travel videos later, and almost a year has passed, so we are reflecting on our decision to leave our life in the US behind to travel in Mexico and ultimately decide to live here permanently.
Although we could have probably made an hour-long video about all the reasons why we prefer Mexico over the United States, these are the top 11 things we cherish most about our life in this country. We'll talk about things like food, body image, how time is spent, diversity in landscape, and more.
Some things that we didn't get to talk about in this video (but they are HUGE reasons why we love Mexico) include:
- THE PEOPLE. Mexicans are loving, generous, thoughtful, patient, hard-working, and so many other things. We are thoroughly blessed to be in a country filled with such wonderful people.
- THE HISTORY. Mexico is RICH with history surrounding ancient ruins, native civilizations, tough battles, and triumph. We could easily dedicate our entire channel to Mexican history and still not do it justice.
- THE CULTURE. We did talk about some of the cultural aspects of Mexico, but we could have elaborated on this more, especially in terms of religion, traditions, and holidays.
We hope you enjoy our perspective on why we think moving to Mexico was the best decision we've ever made and just exactly HOW it has been such a fulfilling experience overall.
ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world—starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our YouTube channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

Drugs and Sacred Plants in Mexico´s History | Plantas Sagradas en las Américas
Speakers and presentations (This panel took place on February 24, 2018):
Julio Glockner - Crónica de una incomprensión: de la embriaguez diabólica a la alucinación bioquímica.
Antonella Fagetti - Uso ritual de enteógenos entre los pueblos originarios de México: pasado y presente.
Ricardo Pérez Montfort - Científicos, esotéricos, literatos y artistas. Conocimiento y creación en torno de las drogas mexicanas (1930-1945).
The Sacred Plants in the Americas conference was held on February 23, 24, and 25, 2018 in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. The conference had the purpose of building a bridge between indigenous and traditional psychoactive practices, psychedelic science, and drug policy through multidisciplinary and intercultural dialogue. In a context in which drug policy reforms are temporary, we consider it relevant to build spaces for discussion about psychoactive species and their growing multiplicity of uses. Moreover, it also sought to give voice to the indigenous people, who have been knowledgeable about psychoactive plants since ancient times, and they presented several lectures at the conference.
