Our very touching visit at The Toucan Rescue Ranch in San Isidro, Heredia, Costa Rica. May 2014.
TRAVEL VLOG: COSTA RICA | San Jose, Toucan Rescue Ranch & Volcan Irazu
JackTravels to: Costa Rica!!!
After many years, my best friends and I planned a trip to Costa Rica. Many people wonder... why Costa Rica which is located right in the heart of Central America. Without a doubt my friends, Costa Rica is one of the world’s most diverse ecosystem and has the largest zip line in Latin America! Similarly, the country has many activities to offer such as zip lining, para sailing, rafting, hiking a volcano, enjoying the natural hot spring, kayaking, horse riding, and more. This is one of the reasons why we chose to explore Costa Rica and it’s natural beauties.
Another reason is that, Costa Rica is very dedicated to many ranches with wildlife conservation such as this Toucan Rescue Ranch. This is where abused animals, injured animals, and more are treated with love and compassion during their healing process which can last many months. During that time, volunteers and researchers come together to care for the animal and treat their injuries. These ranches are the fire that continues to protect and conserve the diverse wildlife throughout Costa Rica. I am also an advocate of animal and wildlife conservation which placed Costa Rica at a top place near my heart.
Furthermore, Costa Rica reminds me of Thailand. Having lush mountains, tropic rainforests, and beautiful beaches... This magical heaven truly resembled my home away from home. Additionally since I can speak Spanish (after spending 3 months volunteering in Mexico and 8 years studying) I became more curious about how Different is the Costa Rican accent compared to those of other Spanish speaking countries such as Mexico. Without a doubt, more of my curiosity provoked me to book an airline plane ticket to come explore it myself.
Here are the places I visited in Costa Rica:
-San José
-volcán irazu
-Toucan Rescue Ranch
-La fortuna
-Arenal Volcano
-Hot springs and white water rafting near Arenal
- hiking Arenal volcano
- Arenal lake

Costa Rica, Dec 2017. Pt2 Toucan Rescue Ranch
During our time at the Hotel Bougainvillea we paid a visit to the Toucan Rescue Ranch, which is only about a twenty minute drive away. A great place to see some of Costa Rica's wildlife up close but at the same time, sad that places like this are necessary. The team there do a wonderful job caring for the sick and injured and visiting them helps to ensure that they will be able to continue offering a home for all those rescued.
For lunch we went to Sibu Chocolate, which was only a short drive away. They pride themselves on using only natural ingredients and I have to confess, lunch was awesome, as was the complimentary hot chocolate. Don't miss it.

The Toucan Rescue Ranch is a licensed Costa Rican wildlife rescue facility (CRF: 300667701803) and a 501(c)3 charitable organization in the United States (EIN: 80-0516453)
Toucan Rescue Ranch (TRR) focuses on the care, rehabilitation and study of Costa Rican toucans and other wildlife. We receive and care for confiscated, sick and injured wildlife from government agencies. TRR gives them a loving home with the goal of providing appropriate medical treatment, rehabilitation and then, when possible, returning them to its natural environment.
Make a real difference for wildlife
To fulfill our mission, we work with a model that achieves the rescue of rainforest animals and conservation through education and research. As a charitable organization, we are supported through donations like yours. In giving, you can be sure that your financial support will directly promote the health and wellbeing of our rainforest rescued animals, to improve and secure the quality of their lives and the life of our planet. Your support helps us purchase the correct diets for our animals, pay for medical care, safe and appropriate housing and enclosures and for staffing who provide our rescued animals with quality care.
#PapayaisLife for Animals at Toucan Rescue Ranch
The #PapayaisLife Fund!
The Toucan Rescue Ranch spends thousands of dollars each month to maintain operating costs. It is an expensive endeavor to feed and care for hundreds of rescued wildlife. This is easily the most important fund to support at TRR! Your donation will also help with veterinary services, medical equipment, enrichment, diets, expansions, enclosures, and so much more!
#Papayaislife FUNDS 900 POUNDS OF PAPAYA
The Toucan Rescue Ranch goes through roughly 900 pounds of papaya in just 1-week! This number does not include the bags of green beans, carrots, melon, fish, banana, plantain, berries and a variety of other foods that we prepare for the many different diets at TRR.
#Papayaislife FUNDS THE CLINIC
The Toucan Rescue Ranch's clinic is a premier wildlife rescue facility with highly experienced veterinarians and medical professionals. This is an essential component of our rehabilitation center. Restocking the various supplies such as syringes, medicine, oxygen, bandage materials, sterilization tools, and much more is both necessary and costly - but by helping with the #PapayaisLife fund you are directly contributing to our clinic and animal emergencies!
GROWTH MEANS MORE...MUCH MORE
TRR continues to expand, enabling us to rescue and release more rehabilitated wildlife. TRR accepts and cares for over roughly 500 animals annually. This fund is what keeps us operating and growing.
Become a Wildlife Hero Today
As a charitable organization, we are solely supported by donations. Donations provide financial support that directly promotes the health and wellbeing of animals. We promise with your support you’re improving the lives of rescued wildlife and the vitality of our rainforests.
The Toucan Rescue Ranch is a licensed Costa Rica wildlife rescue facility, Costa Rica Foundation (300667701803) and a 501(c)3 Nonprofit organization (EIN: 80-0516453).
