Riga, City Tour by Bus - Latvia 4K Travel Channel
The weather is not quite nice on this day. The sun can only be seen from time to time. So we decide to take a city tour by Hop-On Hop-Off bus. Departure is on the banks of the Daugava, behind the Latvian Museum of Occupation at Strelnieku Square. From here, the bus drives south in a big bend around the old town to the main station and the Stockmann shopping center.
Next stops are the National Opera and the National Theater. At the Latvian National Museum of Art, the bus turns right and goes to the Orthodox Cathedral. After the circumnavigation of the Freedom Monument, the route leads through residential areas around Elizabetes iela, Krisjana Barona iela, and Bruninieku iela. Children's playgrounds and small parks characterize the scape of the neighborhood. Next stop is at the City Hotel Teater, near the modern building of the Latvian Dailes Theater.
Then it goes through the K. Valdemära iela and the Emilia Meingaila iela to the Albert Hotel in the Art Nouveau District. In this district, you find most of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in Riga. The Kronvalda park with its congress center and pretty fountain in front of it extends directly afterward. Now the bus goes directly to the Daugava and crosses the river on the Vansu bridge.
On the other side of the river are some skyscrapers. But in a residential area behind, the architectural style of some houses still corresponds to the Russian timber construction.
At the Victory Park, the bus turns back towards the Daugava. This time we cross it via the Arkmens Bridge, next to the National Library. From the bridge, you have the most beautiful panoramic view of Riga.
At the other end of the bridge, we reach our starting point and thus the end of the tour.

From Riga to Vilnius by Bus - Latvia / Lithuania 4K Travel Channel
The journey to Lithuania, our third Baltic country, lies ahead of us. For this trip, we bought a ticket for the long-distance bus.
It is very convenient for us. In the morning we only have to walk through the railway underpass in front of our hotel and are already at the bus station.
The bus leaves directly to the south along the Daugava. Then it crosses the river via the southern bridge, the Dienvidu Tilts. It seems that this area is mainly settled by industrial companies.
We quickly reach the flat land that is used for agriculture. The border between Latvia and Lithuania lies between the cities Bauska and Pasvalys. The Latvian-Lithuanian border can only be recognized by the trucks parking spaces to the right and left of the road. A well-developed motorway leads from Panevezys directly to Vilnius. Within the EU, the Baltic countries are also part of the Schengen area.
When driving through the vast meadows and forests, many descriptions of women and children, who had to flee from the eastern regions after World War II, come to our mind. Many have been lost and some children had to eke out a living with work on the farms for years. Some farmers would have liked forever to care for the children, but most of them wanted to go back to their relatives.
Upon driving into the city of Vilnius, we see modern office buildings and many car dealers along the street. The city provides a modern impression. Later we will also get to know the medieval core of the city.

The Freedom Monument is a memorial located in Riga, Latvia, honouring soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918–1920). It is considered an important symbol of the freedom, independence, and sovereignty of Latvia. Unveiled in 1935, the 42-metre (138 ft) high monument of granite, travertine, and copper often serves as the focal point of public gatherings and official ceremonies in Riga. The sculptures and bas-reliefs of the monument, arranged in thirteen groups, depict Latvian culture and history. The core of the monument is composed of tetragonal shapes on top of each other, decreasing in size towards the top, completed by a 19-metre (62 ft) high travertine column bearing the copper figure of Liberty lifting three gilded stars. The concept for the monument first emerged in the early 1920s when the Latvian Prime Minister, Zigfrīds Anna Meierovics, ordered rules to be drawn up for a contest for designs of a memorial column. After several contests the monument was finally built at the beginning of the 1930s according to the scheme Shine like a star! submitted by Latvian sculptor Kārlis Zāle. Construction works were financed by private donations.Following the Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1940 Latvia was annexed by the Soviet Union and the Freedom Monument was considered for demolition, but no such move was carried out. Soviet sculptor Vera Mukhina is sometimes credited for rescuing the monument, because she considered it to be of high artistic value. Soviet propaganda attempted to alter the symbolic meaning of the monument to better fit with Communist ideology, but it remained a symbol of national independence to the general public. Indeed, on June 14, 1987, about 5,000 people gathered at the monument to commemorate the victims of the Soviet regime and to lay flowers. This rally renewed the national independence movement, which culminated three years later in the re-establishment of Latvian sovereignty after the fall of the Soviet regime.Wikipedia

Sex tourism in Riga, Latvia - a short documentary.
For my final major college project, I decided to produce a film about sex tourism in my home town of Riga. As well as meeting a wide variety of male tourist groups from all over Europe, I interviewed a lot of locals that had come in to direct and indirect contact with the sex industry - everyone from a local rickshaw driver to the director of a company that organises stag weekends.
This film is neither supporting, nor opposing sex tourism, but is a mere look in to a subject that i have always found interesting and intriguing.
A big thank you to Luke Quinn and everyone in Year 2 Film & TV production at Reigate School of Art ,Design & Media, East Surrey College for making this possible.
Enjoy!

TTT Rīga vs Dynamo Moscow - EEWBL F4 semifinal, 17.03.18, Riga, Latvia
TTT Rīga used aggressive defense against Dynamo Moscow ball handlers to secure a convincing 82-58 win and qualify for the third consecutive EEWBL final.
Players of the game
Shey Peddy was huge for the hosts. She posted 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and…zero turnovers. Meanwhile, Dynamo point guard Lindsay Allen was fouled out just after 16:08 minutes of playing time.
Kate Krēsliņa provided fire power from the bench. She entered the game with a powerful drive to the basket and added two quick assists enroute to a +17 ratio in the first quarter along with Rūta Veidere. Krēsliņa scored 13 points and dished five assists.
Liene Priede also was impressive. She had eight points in just 11 minutes of action.
Albina Razheva replied with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. She added eight free throws and five assists, while Kelsey Lang posted 10 points and seven rebounds.
Key stats

Martins Zibarts team scored 31 points in the last eight minutes of the first quarter to build a 16 point advantage 31-15.
Dynamo players received two unsportsmanlike fouls in the first half.
The hosts scored more points in fast breaks (17-7) and were superior in shooting from the three point line (10/26 vs 1/12).
Museum of Occupation, Riga Latvia
The Museum of Occupation is next to the Tourist Information Office in Riga with free admittance. It is depressing but a traveler would be negligent not to learn about a country's history. Poor Latvia underwent 51 years of occupation. First the Soviets, then Nazis, then Soviets once again. Inhuman conditions and brutal Siberian exile for entire families. It's no wonder the older people in the Baltics don't smile. They've been repressed for their entire lives.
It is estimated that over 6 million people died in the Russian gulags!
