ESTONIA / LAHEMAA - National Park and Manor Highlights
Lahemaa (Land of Bays), located on the northern coast of Estonia, was established in 1971. Lahemaa is the first and largest national park in Estonia and one of Europe’s most important forest conservation areas. The three historic manor complexes in the area - Palmse, Sagadi and Vihula - has been renovated and they provide a travel into the ancient times of the older 'noble people' of Estonia's past. The multifaceted nature with it's forests, coasts and rivers offers many adventure possibilities.

Palmse manor, Lahemaa NP, Estonia
Palmse manor and open air museum, Estonia 2001 - Museums of Virumaa
Palmse Manor is one of the grandest baroque mansions in Estonia. The mansion and open air museum were the first fully restored manor complex in the country. They are surrounded by the beautiful natural environment of Lahemaa National Park and provide an overview of Estonian manor life and architecture throughout the ages. The open-air museum boasts parks, gardens and historical buildings and features exhibitions, workshops, a training centre, a Palm House, a wine cellar, a romantic café and a tavern serving national dishes.
Palmse Manor
Palmse is first mentioned in a written document in 1287 when it was under the tutelage of Tallinn's St Michael's nunnery. There were several owners afterwards. The Pahlens owned Palmse from 1677 to 1923. In the years 1923-1940 the Defence League used the building. At that time the wing built in 1830s slowly decayed and was pulled down. After World War 11 the mansion was used as a childrens' summer camp. From 1972 to spring 2002 Lahemaa National Park administered the manor. Since spring 2002 the manor is managed by the Foundation Museums of Virumaa. All the buildings are under state protection as an architectural monument.

Train Trip To Tartu
In late August my brother and I traveled to a city in southern Estonia, known as Tartu. It was August 31st and we were wanting to explore a different part of the country. We traveled by bus to arrive their from Tallinn, and went back on bus. On train it only costs about 10 euros to travel their and in bus can be even less, 8 euros. On our train journey we also met two Russians who were traveling back to Russia as Estonia borders Russia and is quite close. Also, during the trip I interviewed two Estonian girls to get their input on living and growing up in Tartu. Note these interviews are towards the end of the video. Enjoy and please support me by subscribing! Thanks.

Estland im Juli 2011 mit Kuressaare, Gutshof Palmse und Schloss Katharinenthal.wmv
Estland:
Vihula manor and Palmse manor, Estonia
Vihula manor, Käsmu bay, Palmse manor house, Estonia 2001
Vihula is a manor complex in Estonia. During much of its history, it has belonged to different Baltic German aristocratic families. During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the manor housed a collective farm. The present main building dates from after 1892. Several of the older outbuildings, such as a palm house and a coffee house, also survive and together contribute to the present ensemble.

3 best multi-day hikes in North-Estonia
#estonia #hikerinestonia #hikinginestonia
The 3 best multi-day hikes in North-Estonia in my opinion are:
1. The Kõrve Trail (also known as the first sections of the Oandu-Ikla trail). 78km / 48 miles one way. The first section passes thru one of the most beautiful national parks in Estonia –the Lahemaa National Park. Also there are some sections that are closed off for cars for super nice and remote trekking.
2. Aegviidu-Aravete trail (a section from the Peraküla-Ähijärve trail). 67km / 41 miles one way. The section passes thru 2 of my favourite bogs, the Kakerdaja bog and the Seli bog (on the Simisalu-Matsimäe trail). Some parts are a bit of dirt car-roads but other sections are amazing forest and wild nature experiences!
Transportation update: The buss from Aravete to Tallinn does not seem to go as often as I remembered it. It's like really rare now. A wiser way would be to take a bus to Tapa and then take a train to Tallinn from there. Use Google maps directions option with public transportation, it tells you the options pretty accurately.
3. Nõva Recreational Area. 64km /40 miles out and back. Combine two smaller trails with the first part of the Pearküla-Ähijärve trail for some picturesque pine forests and white sandy beaches. Also do not miss the „moving river delta“!
Transportation update: there are some busses going to Nõva, but you have to change buses and walk few kilometers to the trail head. Use Google Maps directions with public transportation option, it shows the possibilities very well!
BONUS TRAIL/AREA! One of the most rugged nature area in Estonia – the Northern Shore of Lake Peipus Recreation Area. The newest long-distance hiking trail that starts from Ida-Virumaa and definitely is worth checking out! Unfortunately the English materials are not available yet (as of October 2018).
