Gdansk & Sopot, Poland, Quick Travel Guide. Whether it's a quick weekend away or even longer. I hope my quick guide to Gdansk will help you plan your trip.
Sopot Travel Guide | Day Trip from Gdansk, Poland
Come join us for our Sopot travel guide as we take a day trip from Gdansk to visit this popular seaside resort town located on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in Eastern Pomerania of northern Poland.
Although many come to stay overnight in hotels, doing a day-trip from a nearby city such as Gdańsk might be your best best considering Sopot (Zoppot) is a little pricey in terms of restaurants and accommodations.
How can you spend the perfect day visiting Sopot? Our recommendation would be to to walk along the Sopot pier (Molo w Sopocie), take a boat ride (Pirate ship) and then enjoy hanging out around the main square and market while spending plenty of time at the beach in between ice creams and a leisurely lunch.

Sopot Travel Guide | Day Trip from Gdansk, Poland travel video transcript:
Today we’re taking you on a day trip to Sopot, a town whose name we hadn’t heard before visiting Gdańsk. Sopot is a beautiful seaside town that sits on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and it proved to be the perfect little day trip. Come join us as we explore the town, take a boat tour of the harbour, and find out what makes this destination a summer hotspot.
Tickets in hand. That was super easy. We got our tickets they were only 3.80 Zloty. Uh-huh. Yeah. That is less than a Euro so we are not spending much to get there. Ready for our day trip and our train is pulling into the station right now.
We have made it to Sopot. And I think the main attraction here it the pier. Uh huh. Isn't it the largest in Northern Europe? The largest wooden pier in all of Europe. That is the main thing we're going to do here.
So we made it to the pier and we actually had to buy tickets. You have to pay to go walk on the pier which I didn't realize you had to do. So it is 8 Zloty per person. Got our tickets.
At 511.5 meters, this is the longest wooden pier in all of Europe, and it’s the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Sopot.
And look here. There are swans at the beach.
It is a beautiful beach day, the sun is out, blue skies and we can hear seagulls squawking off in the distance. It is just nice to be at the beach oh my gosh. I can't remember the last time I went to the beach.
Alright, update from Sopot. We came here thinking maybe we'll spend a couple of hours or maybe half a day but we are really liking it here. Really liking it. This is going to be a full day excursion. Yeah, so instead of just putting this in the Gdansk city guide this is going to be its own vlog. Own vlog. Well as you would know already because you would be watching the vlog but anyways we made a decision at this moment just so you know. We like it.
So Sam found us a Pirate Ship. A proper pirate boat.
That means we are ready to set sails. So we made it on the boat like barely. It was leaving within five minutes from us buying the tickets.
And how much was it? Was it thirty five Zloty?
So today is a really nice day to be out on the water. The waters are so calm it looks like glass.
Now we're going to explore a little bit more of the pier. And we've heard rumors of fish pierogi and we're hungry.
The restaurant we had read about online doesn't have fish pierogies. We found it but they don't have it on the menu so maybe they used to at one point but they don't right now.
The good news is that they do have baked pierogi and we've been wanting to try those for a while so we've ordered a whole bunch of like savory ones and sweet ones and we also have soup coming and salad. So it is going to be a really good meal.
So we somehow stumbled on a bodybuilding competition. And everyone looks super tan. Now let's check out the market.
As you may have noticed there are more people sunbathing than there were people swimming and that is because the baltic sea is refreshing.
That was a very busy outing and I think the verdict is we both loved Sopot.
This is part of our Travel in Poland video series showcasing Polish food, Polish culture and Polish cuisine.

Sopot & Gdynia, Poland - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Sopot & Gdynia
Top best places to visit in Sopot & Gdynia
Sopot is a resort town, located between Gdansk and Gdynia. The main reason why this city is so famous is the longest wooden pier in Europe. Stretching out into the Bay of Gdansk in sunny days is full of people. Heroes of Monte Cassino is a street you can not miss. With tourist and street artists on every corner it is also a cultural center. Around this place you can find some good restaurants, clubs or theaters. The Crooked House makes this street even more lively and interesting.
The walkway starts from St. George’s Church and ends at the lighthouse and Spa Square next to the Wooden Pier. A lot of people are coming here for this long and beautiful beach. But most of them forget that they can see settlement from Middle Ages and learn about early Polish culture as well.
Sopot can be proud of their basketball team as they won 5 championships in a row. But the most the famous place in Sopot, just next to the Wooden Pier of course, is the Forest Opera. Opera is famous for its big event International Song Festival. On the way back from Forest Opera don't forget to check this nice view of the city. But the best view is from the lighthouse. With the view of city center and Wooden Pier.
Gdynia. Central point of the city is the Kosciusko Square. This is also the beginning of the Southern Pier. Two important, historic vessels are moored here. Today these are museums and great tourist attractions. The Southern Pier is the most picturesque spot of the city.

Exploring Sopot Poland | Day Trip from Gdansk | Travel Vlog
Follow my Polish friend Magda and me on our day-trip from Gdańsk to the popular resort town: Sopot, Poland! Sopot is known as one of Poland's Top Vacation destinations, especially among the Polish population. It has beautiful views of the Baltic sea, long sandy beaches, a vivid party-scene, and Europe's longest wooden pier! When in Gdańsk, be sure to check out the beaches of Sopot (only a 15-20min train ride away!) and as tradition goes, you must have a waffle on the beach! ;)
We went to Sopot during the off-season in September, so there weren't too many crowds. However, in the summertime, this place is A LOT more lively!

This is a quick video I made during my day trip to Sopot, Gdansk.
Located only about 30 minutes way from the Gdansk city center, Sopot is a beautiful and quaint port town with a lovely beach and interesting architecture.
The wooden pier in the video is the longest wooden pier in Europe and is one of the most popular attractions in the city.
During the summer Sopot turns into a bustling seaside resort town and the beach is full of people.
Some of the things you'll see in the video are the Sopot Grand Hotel, the Dancing House, the Sopot Pier, the Gothic cathedral, and many other interesting sights.
I was there in February so it was quite cold but during the summer months it's probably an amazing place to be, especially if you enjoy the beach.
LARGEST WOODEN PIER IN EUROPE! Sopot Beach Day from Gdansk | Poland Travel Vlog
The Polish seaside town of Sopot is home to the largest wooden pier in Europe, famous in Poland! The train from Gdansk to Sopot... ⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇
If you're looking for things to do in Poland don't miss Sopot! Sopot is a stunning spot by the Polish seaside, a quick train ride away from Gdansk and is well worth the visit. It's also home to the largest wooden pier in Europe, the Sopot Pier.
The Sopot beach and water isn't necessarily stunning, but the atmosphere in the little beach town is something you need to experience. Poland is a welcoming place with so much variety, even the difference from Gdansk to Sopot is night and day - as you can sort of pick up from our response in the travel vlog.
The pier isn't the largest in Europe in total, but the wooden element is the key point - there's no larger piers built our of wood specifically. Something we didn't expect to find in Poland either way.

In this video, Misiu i Mui Mui walk along the ul. Bohaterów Monte Cassino, unwind on the longest wooden pier in Europe, as well as dine in one of Sopot’s top restaurants: Browar Miejski Sopot. There, Misiu i Mui Mui eat pierogi z gęsią (pierogi with goose filling), kaszanka (Polish blood sausage), as well as bigos (hunter’s stew).
Browar Miejski Sopot:
How much does the Sopot Pier cost? Is it worth it?
Usually, in the summer (when Misiu went there last year) you have to pay a fee of 10 złoty to walk the stretch of the pier. It's highly worth it! From the Sopot Pier you can see the beautiful coastline of Sopot, the luxurious hotels (Sofitel Grand Hotel), the deciduous forests that line the coast and the cities of Gdańsk (as viewed from the pier, facing the land) to the left and the city of Gdynia, far in the distance, covered by forested hills to the right. It's a spectacular sight you cannot miss.
In autumn when we came, the cost of being on the Sopot Pier was free.
Join our Pomeranian adventure as we visit Gdańsk, Hel, and Malbork.
Sopot - Poland (seaside of Gdansk)
This beautiful seaside town on the Baltic Sea in Poland is a wonderful place to visit, With the longest wooden structured pier in Europe.
Sopot - party capital of Poland or more
We spent a week in the Polish coastline and decided to make Sopot our holiday base. It's close to Gdansk so we could easily visit, but at the same time we were close to the beach, have forests to cycle, cheap accommodations and plenty of restaurants, bars and activities. That was our plan and apparently, a lot of people think so too as it's full packed of people, I don't remember seeing such a crowd lately on our travels as we did on our first afternoon there, a sea of people flooded the main street.
But don't worry as with other such places this is kind of limited to the town centre so if you walk a little further you will enjoy quiet soft sandy beaches and a nice family friendly atmosphere.
Things to do in Sopot Beach
Our favourites where:
Beach
There's no denying this is what the main attraction and the reason people consider visiting Sopot. It's a long, clean almost powdery sand beach, with lots of amenities. You can literally walk for miles or just sit on a beach cafe and enjoy the breeze while drinking a cocktail.
Forest walks
We loved walking around the parks and forests that make up the coastline. You'll find that there are many bicycle roads along the coast all of them perfectly maintained if you follow them at least. We took a detour and ended up having to push our bicycles through the sand.
Crooked house
One of the main attractions in Sopot and the building is quite interesting and worth a visit if you're in the area. Inside it's just a cafe and shops but the facade is quite funny and hard to resist paying a visit. At night you can find a nightclub here.
Church of St George(Kościół Garnizonowy pw. św. Jerzego)
This is surely the highlight of Sopot, nice architecture with great details situated in the heart of Sopot. Inside its impressive stained glass provides a shower of coloured lights that at the right time of day should be amazing.
Walk along Sopot's pier
Very long and one of the first places we went to while getting to know Sopot. We didn't actually go to the pier that day as you need to pay to go there, so we decided to visit when we used the boat to go to Gdansk. It's apparently the longest wooden pier in Europe not that the title makes any difference, the truth is walking on these wooden piers is quite enjoyable and somewhat romantic.
Bike tour
Spend an afternoon biking here and we loved it, it was a chance to take all the family to a couple of far away beaches while enjoying the forest trails. We did get lost and found ourselves cycling in the sand so make sure you follow the road.
Windsurf
We love watersports and wanted to try windsurfing here, in the end, we only managed to get one board as everything was booked but we can tell that the reason it was all booked is probably due to the cheap prices of rentals here. They have many water sports activities so you can certainly find something for you, just make sure you do book it early in the morning.
Sopot's lighthouse
I don't think I have ever seen a lighthouse like this, it's a beautiful tower that could be from a palace. The architect constructed a lighthouse and a viewing tower
as a way to conceal a chimney for the boiler that heated the spa waters, quite creative.
Gdansk and back
One of the reasons we chose Sopot was it's proximity to Gdansk that would allow us to visit the city but at the same time stay in a more relaxed environment. We went by train and returned by boat so it was not boring at all and allowed us to see things from land and sea. Gdanks is a must see if you are in the area of course, but you probably already know that.
Hel
Another popular destination, you can get there by train or boat if you are interested in visiting this peninsula. It's a nice small narrow place that makes an excellent day trip. The village is touristic but it makes for a nice walk around the picturesque houses.
Nightlife
Sopot seems to wake up at night. You'll find the streets crowded even late at night in the centre with plenty of bars and nightclubs to choose from.

Sopot is a small beautiful city 20 min from Gdansk. You have to take S2 Train which costs 3.8 PLN. You can visit most of the beautiful places in Sopot in half day.
I recommend you to visit this place and smell the beautiful Baltic Sea.
Sopot (Poland)
Sopot is a seaside resort city in Eastern Pomerania on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland, with a population of approximately 40,000.
The name is thought to derive from an old Slavic word sopot meaning stream or spring. The name is first recorded as Sopoth in 1283 and Sopot in 1291.
Sopot is a city with powiat (county) status, in Pomeranian Voivodeship. Until 1999 it was part of the Gdańsk Voivodeship. It lies between the larger cities of Gdańsk to the southeast and Gdynia to the northwest. The three cities together make up the metropolitan area of Tri-City.
Sopot is a major health-spa and tourist resort destination. It has the longest wooden pier in Europe, at 515.5 metres. The city is also famous for its Sopot International Song Festival, the largest such event in Europe after the Eurovision Song Contest.

Gdansk is truly amazing. This city is filled with so much history it feels like every building as a story. This is where the war started, where communism took over, where so much happened. Today it's hard to believe so much action happened here because it's such a peaceful, beautiful city. Krawkow and Warsaw may overshadow this city but we were blown away by Gdansk! Not only is beautiful like Krawkow, it's HUGE! There is so much to do, eat and see. Do not come here for a day, come here for a week - at least. But if Gdansk is not enough then stop over at Sopot. Only a few kilometers away you have this amazing sleepy town known as Sopot. Parked on the Baltic seat this town is quite interesting. Highly recommend both these places!
