Greenland is literally on the edge of the world and has a monotonous wild, natural beauty. It's not for all travelers, but one thing is for sure, it won't leave anyone unmoved.
Ilulissat Icefjord World Heritage Site Greenland
Ilulissat is situated in Disko Bay at the mouth of the Ilulissat Icefjord which was included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. There are three designated hiking trails of varying duration and difficulty in the Illulisat Icefjord (Ilulissat Kangerlua) each providing fabulous opportunities to hike along the edge of the fjord and get stupendous views of a massive number of icebergs that have calved from the most active glacier in the world: Sermeq Kujalleq. We followed the blue route that takes you along a boardwalk past the old settlement of Semermuit and then follows the bare rocky coast above the fjord. We then joined the red route that took us back to the beginning of the boardwalk, which takes about a couple of hours. From here it's an easy 20 minutes walk back into the town, making this an ideal half day activity for those who have come into Ilulissat on a cruise ship.

Welcome to Greenland.
We're here on the Greenland Explorer withQuark Expeditions and we're joined by the Expedition Leader, Alex McNeil.
Can you just run us through what maybe 24
hours might be like on the ship here?
An average day for me would probably be waking
up around 5 O'clock, and heading to the bridge
looking at local conditions, ice weather,
current, assessing our progress, towards our
proposed destination and looking for any opportunities
along the way.
And the essentially we have a time where we
plan to wake the passengers up.
Usually anywhere from 5:30 to 7:30 at the
latest, sometimes we give people a little
bit of a sleep in.
Then we go out on a morning excursion for
sure, for example, this morning we had a zodiac
cruise and a landing, the tide just got out,
we had a really good extended hike, and we're
going to assess opportunities.
Ready for a great day on the water!
Ship cruise the entirety of the Fjord, it's
about 60 miles
Picturesque jagged peaks, glaciers, that will
be great regardless, and who knows what opportunities
will present for zodiac cruises and other
adventures.
I forgot one thing, we're gonna get you to
jump in the water at some point too.
Oh,
Because we're back in the ice, and we've got
a little bit colder water, so it's time for
a polar plunge.
I like that, it's a little bit colder water.
We want it to be as cold as possible so people
can get the true feeling of the Polar Plunge.
If you go on a Quark Expedition Ship, make
sure to do the polar plunge, whether it's
in the Antarctic or it's up here in Greenland,
do it!
And Vodka is your reward, mine's empty.
Another fantastic day here in Greenland, as
you can see, the landscape never stops changing.
See ya!
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Wow, behind me is Jacobs Harbour, and this
is a harbour filled with ice bergs that come
from Jacobs Glacier.
And as we were told, all of these ice bergs,
eventually make it out of here and travel
all the way to Canada.
Walking in the Tundra in the Arctic.
It's the spirit of adventure,
You never know what's going to happen and
that's what great about the Arctic.
It's just adventure around every corner.
Cheers from Greenland.
So you know if you need any motivation to
go to the Arctic, well you got it now.
Come to Greenland, we'll see you there.

West Greenland - natural paradise Glacier Worlds
The Ilulissat Icefjord is 250 km north of the Arctic Circle on the Greenland's west coast. It is UNESCO World Heritage Site, about 4000 square kilometers. The fjord itself is 70 km long, the depth is up to 1000 m. The largest icebergs are two kilometers wide, 150 meters high above the water, and another 800 meters under water. They need three to twelve months for the 70 km to the open sea. Every day, 86 million tons of ice dissolve, and the speed of the glacier is up to 40 meters a day. More in German

EXPLORE GREENLAND / Whale watching in the Disko Bay
I travelled to Greenland to capture the magic and all I can say is
It can't be described - It has to be experienced...
It was my second time exploring Greenland, and it takes my breathe away every time - it's overwhelming, so rough nature and isolated with not much infrastructure. Definitely a very unique spot on this beautiful planet

Unesco Heritage Sites In Greenland
This is why Greenland is UNESCO World Heritage!
Just look at the two places Greenland proudly calls UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In North Greenland, the Ilulissat Icefjord is a sea full of ice as far as the eye can detect and a ground zero for seeing a changing climate. In South Greenland, the Kujataa Norse and Inuit Farming region is a vast network of small-scale sheep farms, modern-day towns and settlements, and well-preserved structures from the 10th century.

It has always been a dream of mine to visit Greenland, see its natural wonders and explore the things to do in Greenland. In September 2018 I finally got the chance and flew to the capital to explore the things to do in Nuuk before going on a tour to the Greenland Ice Cap where I also saw the spectacular Northern Lights.
I chose Nuuk as it is a great base for independent travelers for several tour options, hikes and sights in and around the capital while also offering fairly reasonable prices. You can use this video as a guide for your visit to Greenland and you are free to leave more tips and recommendations for things to do in Nuuk in the comment section below!

GREENLAND: ICEBERGS ARE BECOMING A BIG TOURIST ATTRACTION
English/Nat
They're big, they're white and they're only water, but for the world's northernmost country they're turning out to be a big tourist attraction.
Everyone knows that Greenland isn't green -- it's the home of icebergs.
And with the popularity of the book and film, Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow, more and more tourists are finding their way to Greenland.
One can't help but be awed by the power of nature.
When an iceberg breaks up, the beauty of nature turns into a terrifying force.
One fisherman died when this iceberg broke in half and sent huge waves into the harbour of Ilulissat, Greenland's iceberg capital.
But despite their danger, Elke Meissner recognized the tourist potential of icebergs when she moved from Germany to Greenland 20 years ago.
Today she runs her own tour bureau in this town, 300 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle.
She says that these mountains of ice are the star attraction.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The main attraction of course is the big ice fjord, the icebergs, this huge glacier which we've got here only fifty kilometres from here and I think it's the only place in the world you can see that.
SUPER CAPTION: Elke Meissner, Greenland Tours
Ilulissat is the Arctic which people come to see -- icebergs and the midnight sun that never setting beneath the cold mirror-like sea.
It's so typical it's where film producers chose to film the Greenland scenes of Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow, based on the popular book by Danish author Peter Hoeg.
But to see the best of the ice requires a trip by boat, or better still by helicopter.
The Ilulissat kangerlua, or ice fjord, holds the largest iceberg-forming glacier in the northern hemisphere.
Here, ice that is some 25-thousand years old flows into the fjord at a rate of only 25 metres per day.
But that's nearly 20 (m) million tonnes of iceberg daily, enough to supply New York City with water for a whole year.
The fjord here is so choked with ice that no water is visible, even though it's up to 1000 metres deep.
Meissner thinks people want the adventure of a new frontier.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The arctic is a little more popular than it has been before. Maybe because of the movie Miss Smilla's Sense for Snow and that people are a little bit tired of sun and only going to the beach.
SUPER CAPTION: Elke Meissner, Greenland Tours
And after a long day of berg-watching, you can retire to a seaside aluminium igloo for 150 U-S dollars a night.
Or you can enjoy a whiskey on the 25-thousand year old rocks.
And those who do make the long and expensive trip to Greenland know what they've come to see.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Just for the icebergs and for the nature.
SUPER CAPTION: Swedish tourist
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Nature. But this specific area has the icebergs and the ice fjord.
SUPER CAPTION: Danish tourist
SOUNDBITE: (English)
To see the light and especially to see the midnight sun and to see the beautiful colours in the sea and the icebergs.
SUPER CAPTION: Danish tourist
Greenland's stark beauty and unique landscape, as yet untrampled by mass tourism, is what draws people to this unusual destination.
It's ironic that the very conditions that have kept Greenland off the main tourist arteries of the world - the cold and the ice - is exactly what now brings people here.
For in Greenland it's the power of nature that awes the outsiders and commands the respect of the locals, even when the tourists have gone, winter draws in and the sun never rises above the horizon.

East Greenland Photo Tour with Arctic Exposure
EAST GREENLAND PHOTO TOUR
Please email info@arcticexposure.is for more information
East Greenland Photo Tour takes you to one of the most isolated areas in Greenland and offers fantastic possibilities for photographing. This is the tour for the serious landscape and wildlife enthusiast who’s willing to go back in time and explore the Arctic, to travel off the beaten track and sacrifice comfort for the opportunity to get amazing imagery.
On this photo tour, you’ll have the options of photographing icebergs at the size of skyscrapers, steep mountains which fall into the sea, deep fjords, floating icebergs, glaciers, sledge dogs, whales, the Northern Lights and the culture and settlements of Greenland. We have scheduled the expedition in September to have the chance of capturing the Northern Lights. The settlement Tasiilaq will be our “base camp” during the tour, and each day we travel and explore new locations on a boat, such as glaciers, fjords and other settlements in East Greenland. Each area has its own unique photographic scenery.
The primary occupation of the natives is fishing and seal hunting. People have indeed lived in East Greenland for certain periods during the last several thousand years but the period when the area is ice-bound, and the broad belt of field ice that lasts throughout the spring and summer have made this area very isolated – both from the rest of Greenland and the world at large. The first Europeans came to this area only just over a hundred years ago, and this separation from the rest of the country is clearly reflected in the language and culture of the region.
THE HIGHLIGHTS OF EAST GREENLAND PHOTO TOUR:
Photographing icebergs at the size of skyscrapers, floating icebergs, whales and deep fjords.
Visit the fjord Sermilik, the most interesting places in Eastern Greenland.
Exploring the Knud Rasmussen Glacier, a massive and scenic glacier.
Great locations to view and photograph the Aurora Borealis

Air Iceland - Daytour to Kulusuk Greenland - Icebergs and Glaciers
Kulusuk is on a small rocky island between saw-toothed mountains and extensive fjords, and it is almost always surrounded by icebergs floating in the glittering Arctic Ocean. The flight to Kulusuk takes around 100 minutes from Reykjavik Airport.
We take a 2 hour cruise on a speed boat to a glacier that crawls into the sea, to the ruins of an abandoned settlement and around the huge Icebergs that float into the strait between Kulusuk islands and its big neighbor, Aputsijak.
Boat tour finishes in the small hunters settlement of Kulusuk. We will walk around the village and then walk back to the airport (approx. 3 km). Total length of stop in Greenland is about 4 hours.
