HOW TO: Visit GHENT and BRUGES in 24 HOURS
Belgium is the 35th country we have visited, But Belgium has so many major cities worth visiting, so we spent longer in Belgium than we normally would spend in a country, because we wanted to visit Ghent and Bruges. Now because we lost some time because of our luggage, we only had ONE DAY to do both Bruges and Ghent.
This video shows you that it is possible to do both Bruges and Ghent in the same day, same 24 hour period and not feel rushed or spend a lot of money.
Overall I think I liked Ghent the best, it was the perfect hybrid between Brussels and Bruges. Ghent is built up but also historic. I found Brussels a bit lack lustre, no different from any other Belgium city. Bruges was great but I feel like you would run out of things to do over a weekend, unless it was Christmas time!
HOWEVER, Ghent had the worst waffle game of all the Belgium Cities and the best one we had was in Brussels, Bruges was average for their waffle game. So if you want all the waffles, none of the history Brussels is the way to go. But Ghent is by care the most beautiful city in Belgium!

Belgium: Bruges and Brussels
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | We start in Bruges to check into a medieval hospital, savor the exquisite art of Memling, climb a bell tower to get up close and fortissimo at a carillon concert, and sample fresh frites and the world's tastiest chocolate. Then we ride the train to Brussels, where we stroll Europe's finest square, revel in Bruegels' country scenes and Magritte's surreal dreamscapes, then pay a visit to the bustling hub of European democracy.

Tour with the Free Shuttle Bus in Bruges - Belgium 4K Travel Channel
The free shuttle bus in Bruges is very helpful. It runs every 20 minutes.
The central junction of the shuttles is Jan van Eyck Square. Here, one shuttle bus drives the long northern loop, the other one goes south. Many sights of the city are along the way. The southern loop proves for us to be particularly helpful since it represents a direct connection between the station and the center of the city.
As we wait for the bus at Jan van Eyck Square, a dog club passes by. The members walk their dogs together through the city. Except for a few exceptions, the dogs are only dachshunds.
The bus goes through the Wijnzakstraat, the Kraanplein, and through the Jakob von Ooststraat past the Municipal Theater, Royal City Theater, to the egg market.
Through the Geldmunstraat and Noordzandstraat, we reach the Concert Hall, Concertgebouw. From here we go directly to the train station.
On the way back, the route takes us along the barge path to Katelijnepoort, where a cargo ship is passing the swinging bridge.
The Katelijne stop is diagonally opposite the Academie Brugge DKO, an academy of fine arts and audiovisual arts. It is the ideal stop to visit the Godshuizen.
Via Mariastraat the bus reaches Simon Stevin Square.
Next stop is at the Hof van Watervliet in the narrow street Oude Burg. From there we continue via the Wollestraat to the market place, Grote Markt.
Through the Vlamingstraat and the Academiestraat, we get back to Jan van Eyck Platz.
We didn't take the northern loop due to lack of time.

Bruges City Guide - Travel Belgium Travel Video Transcript:
Well, Hello and welcome to Brugge! We are excited to explore the city. We just got here in the afternoon. The light is perfect, the day is beautiful and we're going to go explore and see what the city is all about.
Once in Bruges we set off to see the Old Town. We watched horse-drawn carriages roll down the square, admired the buildings, and visited chocolate shops because if there's one thing you have to do in Belgium, it's sample all their delicious chocolate.
So good morning. It is the start of day 2 here in Bruges, so we're going to continue sightseeing. I think the first order of business is to try and find a boat so we can take a little tour down the canals and maybe after that we'll start thinking about food. I know there is a few Belgian dishes that we're itching to try so let's get started with the day.
We started off the morning with a cruise down the canals. Like many cities in Europe, Bruges too has earned the nickname 'The Venice of the North' due to the numerous waterways that run through the city. It was a great way to get a closer look at the city, and it didn't hurt that we had swans to keep us company.
So we have a very exciting taste test coming up today. We are in Bruges, Belgium and that means we have to try Belgian fries. Not French fries. So let's get a look at that and then I'm going to give you a bit of the history behind it.
So there is a bit of a heated debate about whether fries or French fries or Belgian fries. Where exactly did they originate? So our tour guide yesterday was telling us that apparently during World War I there were a lot of British and American soldiers who were between Belgium and France and sometimes they didn't know what country they were in. All they knew is that they could hear French being spoken. So they assumed we must be in France and these must be French Fries.
So it is time for our last taste test here in Belgium, so we stopped by a chocolate shop to pick up some hand made chocolate. And the Belgians actually used to have a colony in Africa, so that meant cocoa beans, and plenty of time to perfect the art of chocolate making. So that means today they are one of the leading experts in chocolate production, so today is a chocolate taste test.
Waffles! Waffles! We are having waffles!
Well, considering today is our last full day in Belgium we couldn't leave the country without trying at least one Belgian waffle.
And to prove its authenticity it even has a Belgian flag. Why don't you take out that flag and wave it. Come on, go wave it.
Wave the flag?
Wave that flag.
Belgian waffles, dun da da dun da da.
Belgian waffles. dun da da dun dah.
So the funny thing about Belgian waffles is that there is no such thing as Belgian waffles in Belgium.
Sure, in North America we call them Belgium waffles but here they are just regular old waffles.
And that is only because we have crappy waffles. Yes, we have to put them in the toaster. We usually buy them from the frozen section in Canada.
But anyway, what sets these waffles apart is that they are a lot larger, a lot fluffier and the squares are a lot bigger than your average waffles that you buy from the frozen section back in North America. So let's dig in before this starts melting.
This is part of our Travel in Belgium video series showcasing Belgian food, Belgian culture and Belgian cuisine.

Day Trip to Bruges in 5 Minutes - Ep. 38
A day trip to Bruges was an absolute MUST during our visit to Belgium! We only had a few hours before our train ride back to Brussels so we had to make every minute count!
While in Bruges we visited the old city square, hopped on our first ever canal ride through the city, and visited a brewery that owns the 2-mile long BEER PIPELINE that runs under the town. Sounds like my kind of place!! ????????
We did debate whether to visit Ghent or Bruges but we can safely say that Bruges was well worth the trip!

Illegal beer from Bruges goes down well! | #secretsofbruges
People in Bruges are proud of their age-old traditions and craftsmanship. The city still has three authentic breweries that brew local beers. Some of those local beers, such as Brugse Zot and Straffe Hendrik, even run like tap water. Literally. If you want to take a sip, you have to be quick and above all sneaky …

Memorial Tutorial: Fidéle, the Most Photographed Dog In Brugge (Bruges)
Last week the City of Brugge/Bruges lost one of it's most famous residents: Fidele, the most photographed dog in Brugge.
Also known as the dog that sat in the window over the canal, he was a beloved fixture to the town to the point of his passing (age 12) made the papers!
A small tribute to a very good dog, from my time as Photo Tour Brugge when we passed him on the morning Edges of Brugge tour and I'd share some tips next to shooting time.
(I'd apologize for umms and ahhs and other repetitions if it wasn't my early days of video... So it goes!)

A short visit to Bruges Aug-Sept 2010
This summer I made an overnight stop in Bruges a the start of this year's inter-railing expedition to the Nordic countries. I stayed at Snuffel Youth Hostel, took lots of photos during both night & day, I climbed the Belfry Tower that features in the crime comedy film 'In Bruges (2008)' and I tried out some deelish Belgian chocolates...& stayed a little too long, this missing the first of my onward train connections. It was a brief but enjoyable visit. Audioswapped Anticipation by Fade Mode Squad.

???? The most charming town in Europe? Bruges, Belgium ????????
Bruges, Belgium might just be the most charming city in Europe. It is known as the Venice of the north and with it's beautiful canals and medieval architecture its easy to see why. It's a UNESCO World Heritage City and walking around it's cobbled streets is like being transported back in time with horse and carts going past every few minutes.
Our day in Bruges started at the beguinage which was free to walk around and looked beautiful in the spring with the daffodils filling the grass in the courtyard. We then walked to the central square where we found the Belfry which we had intended to climb the 366 steps to the top for amazing views over the city but the queue was too big for us. We next headed to the Friet Museum (Fry Museum). How could we visit Belgium without delving into the history of fries - do you know why we call them French fries when they are indeed Belgian? We do, after visiting the museum. On to the next museum and this time to Choco Story - again visiting Belgian and not visiting a chocolate museum just didn't seem right. Around the museum there are chocolate dispensers where you can take as much chocolate as you want! We loved Bruges and would defo loved to go back and spend more time there.

I think we tasted our way around Bruges successfully!
Bruges (Brugge in Dutch) is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country. We took the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk then drove for around 1 hour to the centre of Bruges. Bruges is a beautiful Medieval city that is sometimes called the Venice of the North due to all the canals running through it.
