[4K] Tourrettes-sur-Loup, France, French Riviera (videoturysta.eu)
[EN] Tourrettes-sur-Loup is one of the most beautiful medieval towns on French Riviera. Perched on the rock, it is ideal for strolling and making interesting footages away from the hustle and bustle of big cities. It is an amazing place, full of narrow streets, stairs, picturesque alleys, passages under buildings - just a paradise for lovers of such places. In our opinion, it is as beautiful as the much advertised Saint-Paul-de-Vence, and it has such an advantage over it that it is not full of tourists - you can slowly explore it in a quiet atmosphere.

[PL] Tourrettes-sur-Loup to jedno z najpiękniejszych średniowiecznych miasteczkek Lazurowego Wybrzeża.

Day trip to Tourrettes-Sur-Loup, Gourdon and the Waterfalls of Saut du Loup, France - 9/19
From Nice, you can do a day trip to the charming village Tourrettes sur Loup, a medieval city also known as cité des Violettes. then short drive to Gourdon and visit the Gorges du Loup with a lovely waterfalls called Les Cascades du Saut du Loup.
Gourdon France... Day trip , just 25 mins from Tourettes sur loup.
Gourdon is one of the most picturesque of all the perched villages, and one of the most touristic. It's rated as one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, and well deserves the title. The village is full of little boutiques with perfume products, a glass blower who creates intricate masterpieces and loves to talk, an early-17th-century fortress, and several large buses dropping off and picking up tourists.
The château originated as a Saracen fortress in the 9th-12th centuries that evolved into a 13th-century château, and was completely rebuilt in 1610. The beautiful lavoir, just down from the château, is from the 19th century.

Driving Into Tourrettes-sur-Loup, France
I stayed in this village for a week, and driving in the Maritime Alps was always exciting. The combination of a view of the Mediterranean sea and being perched in a little place on the vertical (it was hard to walk there without falling) was delightful.
At one point, rocks overhanging the only road, two lanes barely, prevented tour buses from going under. If someone was driving in the other direction, they'd have to stop and back up and let the bus pass before either could proceed.
I also saw troglodyte dwellings over the gorge -- not currently in use, but they certainly had been. Carved right into the rock and supported with wooden beams.
I rented the Nuits d'Antan gîte at 27, Grand(e) Rue for a week, and it was fantastic. Calling the main street a street at all still strikes me as funny. Just going in and out of the apartment was kind of like climbing a stone ladder. I have no idea how the massive old wooden furnishings were even put into the place. Many country furnishings are done to order and built/assembled in situ, and there they stay.
As you enter Tourrettes-sur-Loup from the Grasse side, as you see here, there's an old sign indicating that both noise and speed are forbidden in the village.

Vista -- Tourrettes-sur-Loup (France)
Tourism is huge business in France, and they of course want people to enjoy time off right at home as well as attract people from other countries. Many places which have some sort of vantage point and a nice view will put up a table d'orientation, which is a plan (plan means map in French) which might be tactile, such as a relief sculpture thingie (those are cool!) or some sort of permanent, durable guide to help you understand what you are seeing in the distance.
The Loup is a river/stream in the Côte d'Azur (Riviera) of France, where the Maritime Alps meet the Mediterranean sea. Loup means wolf, by the way. It was a Saturday evening and we'd arrived that day from Roquebrune Cap-Martin, where we'd rented a little house with four terraced gardens right on the beach, about 35 kilometers away from Tourrettes-sur-Loup, where we rented the gîte, Les Nuits d'Antan for a week. Due to the mountainous terrain, getting anywhere around this region, by any means, can take a long time.
There was some sort of altar to Mercury here, and an oratory which is Christian in nature. In the distance I could see the Mediterranean, and could sort of see where we'd been the previous week, behind a mountain. For those of you who like trains, the famous Chemin des Pignes (sp? )was around here and part of it does still run, just not right around here anymore. People gave their very lives to build it. The line to Digne was discontinued in the early '80s but about half the line still runs connecting some other villages, towns and cities. There are steam locomotive parts, a funicular, etc. It's pretty much impossible to just walk up to a village and carry stuff, so any transportation system such as a train, either commuter or freight, was and is vital.
The perched villages of this part of what is now France, near the border with what is now Italy, defy gravity and description. Each one has a different vibe, too, I found. Tourrettes-sur-Loup has a laid back feeling to it, somehow -- which seems a bit kooky, as it's so on the vertical. I saw troglodyte dwellings there -- carved right into stone. Out of use for the time, but could be revived and used again, if anyone's brave enough and crazy enough to do that.
