Best Things to do in Taipei - Overnight City Guide
I have always loved travelling.
I was lucky enough that from a young age, my parents took us all over the place, instilling in us a sense of larger spaces and broadened horizons. As I grew up, I became more independent in my travels and tried to figure out ways to do it more. From learning Spanish in Salamanca to purposefully getting 6 month summer jobs in places I wanted to explore further.
I became accustomed to getting lost and just wondering the streets, figuring out where would be the next good meal or when I would stumble onto some secret only locals whispered about. Getting lost was second nature back then. The only resources we had were over-read guide books that by the time you reached their recommendations, the waiters would push their best sellers down your throats.
So we had to resort to friend recommendations, what blog resources were up on the internet, guide books, conversations with strangers and your hotel concierge. Nowadays in our hyper connected world, everyone is an expert and there are so many sites that claim that this restaurants, trumps this bar, which is passé and now is considered touristy by pretty much everyone. Honestly, for me, good is good, so that’s what I base myself on.
For every family or friend trip we would take, I became the defacto research guide. Skimming through websites in English and in the language of destination, guide books, personal blogs, Instagram hashtags, geotags and anything else social media would allow me to delve into. Finally, being able to create a snap shot of the city, its districts and where to eat, sleep, drink, party or learn about the culture.
This is what Overnight is about.
For all of the information of the video, a map of the city and our Overnight guide.

FALLING IN LOVE WITH TAIWAN (台灣) | TAIPEI DAY TRIP JIUFEN
Come along on our first trip to Taiwan (台灣)! We didn’t know what to expect and – spoiler – we fell in love. From Taipei (台北) to Kaohsiung (高雄), this beautiful island feels like a 'hidden gem.' Explore Taiwan with us and enjoy our travel guide to one of our new top travel destinations. ???????? We are grateful to Like It Formosa for inviting us to experience Taiwan for the first time! Thank you!
We took the Jiufen walking tour organised by Like It Formosa we highly recommend them, if you are in Taiwan and want to experience Taiwan from a local’s perspective check them out for sure.
From Taipei we take a trip to Jiufen. Jiufen is considered the most iconic village of #Taiwan due to it being an unique mountain village that was in the past a gold mining town. Today, Jiufen has embraced its charm and has turned into a popular destination for those visiting Taipei. The old street and Jiufen streets are cool, it's interesting to see a different side to Taipei and Taiwan. Even locals come up here once in a while to enjoy a blast to the past. #Jiufen is a popular tourist attraction and quite legendary for its stunning scenery from the A-mei tea house. Rumor goes it was featured in Ghibili's Spirited Away (Anime movie) by Hayao Miyazaki which was inspired by this very town. We highly recommend coming to Jiufen!!

Taipei City Government creates ten new travel itineraries for in-depth exploration
With Taipei turning into an increasingly popular destination in Asia, local tourism authorities have been targeting tourists who prefer to explore cities in-depth. Now, The Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism has unveiled ten new travel itineraries which highlight Taipei’s unique nuances and local color. The DJ at a city government press conference plays a mix evoking scenes from around Taipei. Now, travelers to Taipei have even more ways to experience the city than before. Chien Yu-yenTaipei City Tourism Commissioner These days, if you go to Dadaocheng, The Red House and Ximending on a holiday, it’s all backpackers dragging luggage. So we have started looking for guides with in-depth knowledge who can design different itineraries. The Department of Information and Tourism is promoting in-depth tours that let foreign travelers experience Taipei’s old city, cultural monuments and the charm of its traditional cuisine. Lo Wen-chiaShuiniu Bookstore ManagerIn the past few years, I have seen many people associated with (Taipei travel) write their own books or act as guides. I have seen government agencies also willing to invest time and resources into unearthing this city’s rich heritage. I think this is a good direction. By promoting tourist routes with different themes, the Department of Information and Tourism hopes to let travelers follow in the footsteps of locals and discover for themselves the many faces of Taiwan’s capital, Taipei.

With our upcoming midterm election on Nov 24, 2018, travelers and guests are in luck (or misery!) to see it for themselves. In this episode, Hack It Formosa discusses our vibrant election culture that is displayed by politicians, candidates and political parties in five different levels. From theme songs to free souvenirs and concert parties, nothing is impossible when promoting political awareness (annoyance) in Taiwan!
With this video as your guide, Hack It Formosa talks about how (not) to survive the famed election season in Taiwan, for foreigners and locals alike! (Also, don’t forget to vote!)

TAIPEI NIGHT MARKETS + Street FOOD Tour Taiwan
On this trip back to Taiwan, I visited three Taiwanese night markets in Taipei~ Shilin Night Market, Ximending Night Market and NInxia Night market.
I LOVE Taiwanese night markets and Taiwanese street foods. Taipei has at least 30 night markets! On this trip back to Taiwan, I visited three top Taipei night markets~ Shilin Night Market, Ximending Night Market and NInxia Night market. They are all located a short MRT ride away. Here's the Yumilicious street foods I bought at them!
Ximending Night Market
Ximending Market in Taipei is a huge trendy shopping district and it’s the area where I’m staying at on this trip. The last time I was here, I came strictly for the interestingly themed Toilet restaurants. You’ll find a lot of trendy and fun foods three.
1. Ay- chung Flour Rice Noodle- 50 NT
2. Brown Sugar Boba Tea
3. Hawaiian Passion Fruit Tea
Ningxia Night Market
I meet up with my old girl friend Sharon again at this top Taipei night market. Ningxia Night Market is a slightly smaller local night market. It’s one street squeezed with vendors and tables. Foods here are definitely more of the local street food variety.
4. Scallion Bread
Shilin Night Market, Taipei
Shillin market is perhaps the most popular night market with tourists and locals because it has a huge variety of both, fun and traditional street foods to choose from and its got a lot of bargain shopping. You’ll definitely find some Michelin star rated street stalls. Are they really that good…?
5. 50 NT Store
6. Claw Machines
7. Grilled Octopus Foot
8. Rice Flour Noodle (Michellin Star)
