I traveled to Riga for only 4 days and managed to see and do a lot in that short given timeframe. Riga is the largest city of the Baltics and offers a lot of cool things to do in Riga itself but also just a short train ride out of the center in Sigulda.
This video showcases the combination of a city trip and and action packed day out in the nature. My personal highlight has been the flight in the vertical wind tunnel Aerodium near Sigulda - if you feel like you can even go Bungee Jumping there.

Riga is the capital of Latvia, a Hanseatic city and European capital of culture. Saint Petri Church is located in the centre of the city and has a long and varied history. It features inner cross vaults modelled on those of the dome of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck’s cathedral, plus a circular arch and sturdy, red brick walls. It is one of the most important sacred buildings of the Middle Ages and is closely linked with the development of the city. Mentzendorff House was a manorial property which German merchants had built at the end of the seventeenth century. Carefully renovated, its original splendour has been fully restored. The middle class buildings of Elisabeth and Albert Street indicate the prosperity of its past occupants. Like almost nowhere else, art nouveau has been preserved incredibly well with lavish embellishments and numerous motifs. Marien Cathedral is situated in the centre of the city and is the most important religious building in the Baltic States. Its age, dimensions and contrasting architectural styles bear witness to a long history and its famous organ, built in 1883, contains a hundred and twenty four registers and almost seven thousand wooden and metal pipes. In keeping with the age-old traditions of the Hanseatic League, the very heart of the Baltic beats within Latvia's metropolis and, with an elegant lust for life, Riga is an extraordinary treasure!

AUTUMN IN SIGULDA, LATVIA (Day Trip from Riga to Gauja National Park)
To make the most out of our 2 weeks in Riga, Latvia, we decided to take a short train ride into the Latvian countryside to visit the BEAUTIFUL town of Sigulda. It's autumn so the colors of the trees are absolutely spectacular and we decided to spend the day hiking.
After arriving in Sigulda, we stop in at a bakery, visit a castle, and then venture into Gauja National Park where we visit a historical cave. It was an incredible day spent in nature!

We found Riga to be a very child friendly, safe, lovely place. This time we visited it during summer, walked around its many parks and gorgeous canals, enjoyed its medieval Old Town as well as its Art Nouveau district. Not to forget the tasty, cheap food and beer, any of the traditional Lido restaurants are a must.

Petri Church has been at the centre of various conflicts between the military order of the Livonian Brothers Of The Sword, and the local population. In 1666, its tower collapsed, buried eight people and, in 1721, lightning destroyed it completely. Czar Peter The Great had it rebuilt, a hundred and twenty seven metres high and with a wonderful view. From each of Latvia’s regions, dwelling houses, churches and windmills have been re-assembled, with furniture and everyday objects. Situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Juglas the museum recalls the daily life of Latvia’s farmers, craftsmen and fishermen. In keeping with the age-old traditions of the Hanseatic League, the very heart of the Baltic beats within Latvia's metropolis, and also with an elegant lust for life, Riga is an extraordinary treasure!

Day 2: Visiting the Latvia National Opera and Ballet also the Riga choreography school
Day 2 in Riga, we are visiting the Riga choreography school and the Latvia National Opera un ballet theatre which has a guided tour every Thursday in English. It plays a really important role in History, a lot of the performers from Russia came here during the first period, while escaping from the terrors of Russia.
Quick trivia: WHICH FAMOUS MALE DANCER WAS BORN IN LATVIA? It is our favourite Mikhail Baryshnikov. ❤

Riga, Latvia has become one of our favorite places this summer! We took a tour of the KGB House which has been turned into a museum. However after our tour, our guide took us to the untouched basement and upstairs of the house, and it was very spooky. This vlog also includes a local Latvian lunch of dumplings which we were charged by the weight, and a massive cup of coffee. Both SUPER affordable compared to what we've been paying in Iceland!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. RIGA LATVIA - Sightseeing, friends and fun (Travel Vlog Day 4)
The last day of our Riga travel vlog!
Our day started out with a lovely hotel breakfast and then spa. Afterwards we met up with Potato's friend which she studied in Japan with. We went sightseeing at The blackheads, The Three Brothers, some of the main chruches, the swedish gate and last but not least the monument of freedom. We also ate sushi and then had some lovely drinks at skyline bar. These are some of the best things to do in Riga.
Later we met up with Rice's brother's friend who showed us the park with the love-bridge and a man-made Mountain - the secret kissing spot. We went our for some drinks at unicorn cafe before we ended the day back at Avalon Hotel.
We had a lovely stay in Riga and can't wait to go back!

My Trip to Riga: Three Days in Latvia
Earlier this year I spent a few days in Latvia on my trip to Riga.
Riga is a beautiful city with a picturesque old town and plenty of things to do.
Even with 3 days in Riga I felt that I needed more time to explore the city so I definitely plan to return in the future and hopefully spend a week taking advantage of everything that Riga has to offer.
On its own, Riga is easily accessible with a great location right in the heart of the Baltics.
It's easy to get to Riga by bus or train from Tallinn, Vilnius, and even Warsaw if you're hoping to visit from Poland.
You can also fly into Riga from all over Europe things to the budget flights with airlines like Wizz-Air.
Since it uses the Euro, Riga isn't as cheap as some of the other more budget-friendly destinations in Europe like Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, although for the most part the prices and cost of living in Riga are very reasonable.

Overall, I would definitely recommend visiting Riga if you get the chance - it's a beautiful city with an interesting history, plenty of incredible architecture, wonderful food, and great people!

Riga in 3 days (Latvia)
Riga, Latvia.
Riga was the first destination of our trip and we spent there 72 hours (3 days) in the capital of Latvia.
We were very lucky because the weather was amazing and very sunny.
As far as I'm concerned the best attractions in Riga are the amazing National Library of Latvia with its stunning architecture and St. Peter’s Church with its observatory. From there you can enjoy an amazing view of the city.
Another nice spot to see the city from the top is the Panorama Riga Observation Deck or, if you also want to have a drink, there is the rooftop Skyline bar located at the 26th floor of the Radisson Blu Hotel.
In Riga there are so many interesting things to see and to do:
The Cathedral of Riga, Nativity of Christ Cathedral, the House of the Blackheads, the houses The Three Brothers, Livu Square, Albert Street and the Art Nouveau District, The Musée Art Nouveau, Vermanes Park, The Freedom Monument, The Central Market, Art museum, War museum, Kgb Building, Riga Ghetto, the Latvian Holocaust Museum...
If you enjoy drinking you could try the traditional herbal liqueur: The Black Balsam.
