Balmain is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, Australia. Balmain is located 6 km west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Leichhardt. It sits on a small peninsula that juts out of Sydney Harbour, directly opposite Milson's Point. Balmain is located on the Balmain peninsula surrounded by Port Jackson, adjacent to the suburbs of Rozelle to the south-west, Birchgrove to the north-west, and Balmain East to the east. BALMAIN ON A SUNNY AFTERNOON
It is the simple things that make me happy, and a lovely walk in the park, that was bathed in the warmth of wintery sun, so bright it was almost impossible to see. The sea was alive with brilliant sun rays, so dazzling, making the water hypnotic and glittery with the suns dazzling reflection.
Balmain is a gorgeous older suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is located approximately 6 km west of the Central Business District of the city of Sydney
Balmain is Located on the Balmain Penisula surrounded by Port Jackson, adjacent to the suburbs of Rozelle and Birchgrove, White Bay and Iron Cove.
Balmain once traditionally a Blue Collar district, was the place where the industrial roots of the Trade Unionist Movement began. The Australian Labour Party was also formed in Balmain in 1891. Property prices in Balmain are hugely expensive hence a new class of ownership has risen agains the older more traditional blue collar l residents.
As an older suburb, Balmain has many Colonial and Victorian heritage buildings many still standing and viable built with gorgeous Sydney Sandstone. Balmain is surrounded by water on most sides, hence many locals own pleasure craft and fishing boats. There are beautiful old established parks and many wonderful vantage points that offer uninterrupted views of Sydney City and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There are also many well establish old pubs and eateries, where food is culturally varied and delicious.
There are several ferry services from Balmain to the city and other suburbs. On the whole it is worth a visit, just for the views of Sydney Harbour alone.

Balmain, Sydney - Secret Societies & the Working Class
Now a fashionable inner city suburb Balmain was once a working class batleground for better ights and protections, and at the core of that battle were the secret societies such as the Oddfellows, Freemasons and the Sons & Daughters of Temperance.
It was these organisations that established many of the key protections we now take for granted. Through Friendly Societies members provided the basics of social insurance as well as actively campaigning for legal reforms.
However these mutual aid societies were a threat to the establishment and were effectively dismantled by the legal, medical, banking and pharmaceutical elites. As well as being vilified by the church and alike because of the danger they posed to the power pyramid.

The market is the primary delivery service of these products for Sydney. The market has a wholesale sales section that caters to larger business and general sales to the public. The market is the central marketplace for Sydney's farmers to sell their products. It has a history dating back to 1788.[1]
Sydney Markets feature a number of divisions including Produce, Flowers, Growers, Fresh Food, Motor, Swap & Sell, Paddy's Markets and Sydney Markets Plaza.[2]
Paddy's Markets specialises in the sale of fruit, vegetables, fish, clothes, giftware and souvenirs to the general public.
