VW T25/T3/Vanagon/Syncro Morocco Overland Episode 6 - Rock & Stone.
After being out in the Sahara for a while we were freaked out slightly when we entered the town of Tata and civilisation. We found our second bar of the trip and enjoyed cold beers as well as pigging out on awesome street food. Tata was one of those places that on first impressions seemed un inspiring but it actually ended up being a great town that we enjoyed visiting before heading further east to Tafraoute. We drove one of the best pistes of the trip so far through a gorge with a dry river bed and up into the mountains.
Tafraoute is an amazing place where you can wild camp right out amongst the painted rocks and rugged landscape that bring people to this area. When we arrived at the painted rocks we couldn't make our minds up if the handiwork of the artist that started this rock painting made the landscape more interesting with his work or if he had spoiled it. It was a fairly brave move to take on such a task but as the evening when on and we cooked dinner we were still talking about it and the discussion went on long into the night. The next morning when we were having coffee we were still talking about it and then it dawned on me. We had spent hours analysing the artists work and although personally I have never understood art in the past I then realised the whole point of it was to get the reaction it got from us and the hours we had talked about it.
That day we got art.

6 Beautiful Cities of Morocco
6 Beautiful Cities of Morocco!

The 6 Cities are:
1. Agadir
2. Casablanca
3. Chefchaouen
4. Marrakech
5. Rabat
6. Tangier

Morocco has something of an aura about it – created mainly by the major tourist destinations of Marrakech, Casablanca, Fez and Rabat.
Where is it?
Morocco is on the North West coast of Africa, just across the sea from the southern tip of Spain. This means that it’s easy for most Europeans to reach by plane and even by road or train. Its proximity, mixed with its unique style and culture make it an increasingly popular destination.
Where can I stay?
There are a number of small, exquisite boutique hotels in Morocco. It seems to have the boutique style and attention to detail all wrapped up, making it difficult for the traveller to choose which unique hotel to stay in. There’s the Dar Zemora in Marrakech which has just five rooms, but where the decoration, furnishing and service ensure that you have the best of both worlds – a perfect place to stay, with the many attractions of Marrakesh just around the corner. Alternatively, stay in the Kasbah du Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains, which reportedly has the best views in North Africa, and where your stay is enhanced by the informal feel of the hotel and the services offered. Surrounded by the peaceful beauty of the landscape, it is a place that has inspired anyone who’s stayed there. Whether you want to stay in the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, on the beaches of Essaouira or in the heart of the mountains, there’s a perfect hotel waiting for you.
What can I see?
Wherever you’re staying, you should make an effort to visit Marrakech. The coming together of civilisations, conquerors and craftsmen makes it a truly eclectic city, yet one that’s bound together by the beauty of its buildings, the simplicity of its crafts and the awe of its visitors. Its souks, or markets, which are organised by trade, are a fascinating insight into the life of Marrakech’s residents and an experience not to be missed. Spend some time in the Place Djemma El Fna – the city’s main square, where regular entertainment keep the crowds amused, and then walk through the streets of the old town, taking in the magnificent medieval buildings and romantic gardens. The rest of Morocco holds its own delights – the whitewashed buildings in the simple coastal resort of Essaouira, the regal buildings of Rabat or the market town of Tata in the Sahara – you will find plenty of reasons to return to Morocco.
How do I get around?
You can hire a car in Morocco, as driving is fairly easy and it will let you explore more of the area around your chosen destination. Petrol can be expensive, so it may be wise just to hire a car for a day or two rather than for your whole stay. Morocco operates a system of shared taxis, which works out pretty cheaply and is fairly straightforward to use. Alternatively, try the bus network, which is generally comfortable and, although they may reach their destination later than a shared taxi, it will be a smoother, safer ride. If you’re travelling between cities, then choose the trains, which are also comfortable and affordable.

A Moroccan oasis at the end of the road
M’Hamid is a small Sahara Desert village in the Zagora region of Morocco. M'hamid is one of the two places in Morocco where Sahara begins (another is Merzouga). M'Hamid is the real Sahara Desert and an the perfect place to have a Morocco Travel Sahara Trek and experience. M’Hamid is arguably more authentic part of the Sahara Desert.M’Hamid is just 7- 8 hours by car from Marrakesh and 5 hours from Ourzazate. The original name for M'hamid is Bounou, once a thriving village that evolved from a mix of local Ait Atta Berbers,Drawa, and Hassani tribes. There is a kasbah located 2Km away from the road that is inhabited by black Africans who came from Mali many years ago. Other than this, the main attraction are the Erg Chegaga dunes which are about 50Km from the town. The main attraction of M'Hamid is trips to desert, overnight or several day tours: by camel, 4x4, motor bike or a quad bike.

Thank You So Much :)
Asrir (in Tamazight ⴰⵙⵔⵉⵔ) is a rural Moroccan municipality of Guelmim province, in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, which includes a series of oases.
Asrir is about 200 km from Agadir and 800 km south of Rabat, it has several historical monuments.
The water table dropped significantly in the second half of the twentieth century, and the traditional irrigation system is out of breath, greatly compromising agricultural production and maintaining the oasis. Agriculture is also affected by Fusarium wilt (bayoud), a fungus that kills trees.
The program of safeguarding the oases of the Moroccan government has made it possible to build the dam of Fam El Hisn: this small reservoir creates infiltrations that replenish the groundwater2. The Waha cooperative develops several products from the cactus (oil, feed for livestock, jam).
Finally, the oasis of Tighmert has a lodging to welcome tourism.
Asrir has a population composed by different tribes: Azwafits, al khanouss, mbark or said, ...
In the eleventh century, the oasis was able to shelter about 100,000 inhabitants. Currently, the drop in the water table and the difficult living conditions have reduced the population to about 4000 inhabitants. From 1994 to 2004, the population of the town increased from 3,754 to 3,715 inhabitants.
