Tra Su Bird Sanctuary, Chau Doc
This video was shot at Tra Su bird sanctuary, around 30 minutes from Chau Doc on Vietnam's Mekong Delta border with Cambodia. It's a beautiful spot - even during dry season which is when I shot these clips. And a great place to commune in a picturesque environment with some spectacular bird life.

Near the Cambodian border is a fabulous bird sanctuary called Tra Su which is near Chau Doc in South Vietnam. I was there last month and loved it. Apart from seeing lots of water birds you'll also see a lush forest of lily, lotus, and Australian tea trees (originally donated by the Australian government). Lots of mangroves and fish too..

TRA SU CAJUPUT FOREST - THE GREEN WONDERLAND IN AN GIANG, VIETNAM
Tra Su Cajuput Forest is located in Van Giao Commune, Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province, about over 20km from Chau Doc Town and 10km from the Cambodia border. It is a marvelous beauty of immense wetland, emerald-green duckweed carpet and dense cajuput forest.
Tra Su Forest stretches out a total area of 1,500 hectares, featured with a very rich ecological system. The flora includes over 140 species; among them, cajuputs cover almost all the area. The forest is the habitat for many colonies of water birds, bats and various others such as rare and endangered animals and reptile species.
The best time to visit the forest is from September to November, when the whole forest is floated in water. To exploring Tra Su Cajuput Forest, you have to take a boat or motorboat. It must be an awesome experience when sitting on the boat and go through enormous green duckweed covering the water’s surface with tall and huge cajuputs standing densely. You can also observe thousands white storks and other colorful species of birds flying above or perching on the branches. The bird’s twitters are the only sound in the forest.
The further you go, the more peaceful you can feel. It seems like you are lost in a green paradise with cool and fresh atmosphere. In that charming green, amazing yellow field of sesbania sesba flowers and pink ponds of lotus appear as picturesque scenery. Everything is incredibly nature.
After take a tour to explore the forest, you can come back to go to the watchtower to see the whole vast and boundless view of Tra Su Forest and watch closely the daily activities of birds and storks through fieldglasses. You can have a chance to enjoy amazing traditional foods of Southern Region.

Day 1: Saigon - My Tho - Ben Tre - Can Tho (L)
08:00 - 08:30 AM Pick up at your hotel & start to Mekong delta tour.
9:30am - 10.00am, arrive in My Tho. Board a wooden motor boat (20 minutes) to Unicorn Island. On this boat along the river’s bank, you’ll be passing through natural creeks, interesting fisherman's port, stilt houses (half on land, half on water).
From there, we’ll take you to a bee farm where you have a chance to taste a tasteful cup of authentic honey tea. After that we walk around quiet villages and watch the life of rural people in Mekong Delta.
Things get small and personal now. We are divided into many groups and get on small row boats. During this 15 minutes trip, you’ll witness all kind of interesting transportation modes that local people use to move around, while enjoying the fresh air along the canal and beautiful water coconut tree scenery. Away from the city, that is it all about!
Next, let's get back to the large motor boat for something different. You'll cruise a canal whose 2 long sides are orchards. After that, we cruise to a village where the sweat smell coconut candies are in the air. To satisfy your curiosity, we'll get to a village that has many small shops that make coconut candy and handcrafted items from coconut trees of Mekong Delta. You might learn that those people can amazingly make dozens of useful products out of coconut trees. It is indeed inseparable from the villagers' life. Have a lunch at the restaurant in Mekong Delta.
One of the boat’s stops during this trip is at a seasonable orchard that has many different types of tasty tropical fruits for your enjoyments. You can enjoy the fruits for free while checking out the folk music that is typical to only the people in Southern Vietnam.
As your journey ends, you will return to My Tho by motorized boat and then travel to Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho.
Day 2: Can Tho - Cai Rang floating market - Tra Su - Chau Doc (B,L)
Take a leisurely boat trip to explore the picturesque tributaries of the Lower Mekong river (Bassac River), then proceed to Cai Rang floating markets (& Phong Dien is optional), which are the liveliest in the whole religion. Have you ever tasted Vietnamese vermicelli soup? Well, now go and see how it is made. Then wander around the village and meet the friendly local people and experience how to pass a Monkey bridge which is built by only one stem of bamboo. Visit the orchard garden. Stop for lunch. Proceed to Chau Doc, continue the tour to visit Tra Su, getting to the wild birds Sanctuary, cruising smoothly with small boats to discover the arrays of splendid canals deep into the forest, watching storks, cranes and other tropical birds. Back to the Town, hotel check in. Overnight in Chau Doc.
Day 3: Chau Doc – Phnompenh/Cambodia (B)
07.00am - 07.30am departure to visit Raft village, and to learn the history of development of fishery (a type of specific economic on the river).
Then continue by boat along the canal into the village of Cham where we visit the ancient largest Mosques of Cham community in An Giang and to show a clear distinctive architecture and customs of residents here, it is shown all in Chau Phong temple .
After that, You will take boat trip to Cambodia – Phnom Penh.

Birdwatching Vietnam - Tra Su Bird Sanctuary
In Vietnam, right on the edge of Cambodia lies a little known bird sanctuary, Tra Su. One of those well-kept secrets - it is only in the last couple of years that the tourists have started to come - this is also one of the few tourist sites in Vietnam where wildlife is everywhere. When the waters are high, the lotus come out and the area bustles with well over 50 species of bird. And thanks to boat transport, you can get close enough to spy the birds in their element. A rare, otherworldly experience.

Hi, I am Eileen from Belgium, nice to meet you. I started this channel two years ago but was not updating on a regular basis. After making some videos for friends and family, I realized this is something I love to do. I got inspired by some of my favorite YouTube channels such as Travellight, Kara & Nate, The Way Away and the Bucketlist Family. I accepted the challenge to visit all Belgian municipalities and because I love to travel, I do it as often as possible. I just got back from one month in Asia and the next trip is already booked!
