Berlin celebrates the Trabant, iconic East German symbol
Twenty-five years after the fall of the wall, it's very symbolic to cross the Bornholmer Brücke in a 'Trabi', reports euronews correspondent Olaf Bruns.
The reason, he says, is that the bridge is where people forced open the first East-West Berlin border crossing on 9th November 1989.
A Trabant invasion followed as the old-fashioned East German cars joined hordes of people pouring into the West.
A quarter of a century on, hundreds of 'Trabi' enthusiasts dusted down their favourite vehicles…

BERLIN: HERE IS A CLASSIC TRABANT LIMOUSINE ???? (Germany)
SUBSCRIBE: - A Trabant limousine, Berlin (Germany). Berlin, Germany’s capital, dates to the 13th century. Reminders of the city's turbulent 20th-century history include its Holocaust memorial and the Berlin Wall's graffitied remains. Divided during the Cold War, its 18th-century Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of reunification. The city's also known for its art scene and modern landmarks like the gold-colored, swoop-roofed Berliner Philharmonie, built in 1963.
Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.

Over 40 Trabant cars were driven along Berlin's Bornholmer Street, Sunday as part of celebrations held to mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.
Trabant was a series of cars built in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) before the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989. Made from Duroplast material, the Trabant was produced by automobile manufacturer VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau.
Bornholmer Street featured one of the border crossings between East Berlin and West Berlin between 1961-1990. It was the first border crossing to be breached during the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989.

TRABANT TOUR 30 Years after Berlin Wall 30 Jahre Mauerfall (Budget Travel Germany) {Berlin, GERMANY}
Budget Travel Germany #2
Trabant tours provide a quirky and nostalgic perspective of Berlin in what was a divided city.
Ubiquitous in the east when Germany was split into two countries, the famous and infamous Trabant, the DDR's tiny, almost plastic car is in demand for nostalgia tours.
With the 30th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a Trabi tour provides passengers with a quirky perspective of the German capital. History and architecture abound in Berlin, from the TV Tower to Checkpoint Charlie, while the methodically slow pace of the drive offers a different view of what was both sides of the Wall in the then-divided city.
Matt gets up close with East Germany's most popular product, the Trabant, and its riders, on this excursion operated by TrabiWorld.

East Berlin Trabants & other classic cars 1989
Plenty of Trabants and Wartburgs here, but this is no classic car rally......just an ordinary summer day in communist East Berlin, East Germany in June 1989, just weeks before the Iron Curtain of communism came crashing down right across Eastern Europe. Filmed at Rosa Luxemburg Platz with a camcorder smuggled in from the West.

Trabbies honk Hasselhoff's 'Looking for Freedom' in Berlin
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the fall of Berlin Wall, US singer and actor David Hasselhoff oversaw a group of trabants honking his biggest hit 'Looking for Freedom' in Berlin on Saturday.
Thirty years ago these 'trabbies' were all in prison. And now they're free. Isn't that amazing? Thirty years looking for freedom,” said the popstar referring to the Trabants, a series of cars built in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) before the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989.
On New Year's Eve in 1989, Hasselhoff made a memorable performance of his songs ‘Looking for Freedom’ at the Brandenburg Gate. The track was at the top of the German hit parade for eight weeks.
