Cinque Terre Day 3: Hike from Manarola to Riomaggiore (and back)
My 4-year-old woke up with a high fever. But fevers do not keep the Freezes from hiking! I put her in the Ergo and she snuggled in, singing to me the entire hike.
Getting to Manarola was an adventure. The first road we took ended with a sign saying Road closed--risk of death. So we turned around and found another route. We had to drive back down to Vernazza, up another mountain, then down to Manarola.
The lower hike between the two villages is still closed, so we took trail #531. It goes straight up the mountain that separates the two cities. It's the steepest hike I have ever done. It was spectacular. And, thankfully, short.
My youngest rode the train back to Manarola with my mom, so the return hike was much easier.

Hiking the Cinque Terre in One Day Part 2: Riomaggiore to Manarola
In this part of the video we start our hike through the Cinque terre. and end up with way more than we bargained for. The trail was way steeper than we were expecting. The red route of the CInque Terre from Riomaggiore to Manarola is nothing to be taken lightly. This exhausted us pretty quickly. It did however give us some amazing views we wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Hiking All of Cinque Terre, Italy IN ONE DAY
If you've ever wondered what it's like to hike Cinque Terre, this is it. Come along as we hike from Monterosso to Riomaggiore and explore Vernazza, Corniglia, and Manarola along the way.
I also wanted to give you an overall travel guide to hiking Cinque Terre, so here are all the distances and details (with timestamps from the video):
Start: 9.21am get off train in Monterosso (0:01)
30 minutes - explore Monterosso, walk over to trail head (0:13)
9.57am - Buy tickets on the trail, 7.50 euro each. (0:41) Medium-ly difficult hike to Vernazza on main Coastal Trail #2 (0:48) (3.3km, 2.1mi)
11.20am - Arrive in Vernazza (1:32), explore for 40 minutes, or an hour if you want to go up to the castle
12.00 noon - difficult hike to Corniglia on main Coastal Trail #2 (2:02). Up from Vernazza is hard, but going down to Corniglia is easy. (3.2km, 2mi)
1.25pm - Arrive in Corniglia (2:26), Explore for 35 minutes
2.00pm - Very difficult hike to Manarola via Volastra. (3:01) Trail #2 was still closed due to landslides. We took Trail 587 (also known as 7a depending on which sign you're looking at) - very difficult climb, but pretty. Hike up 30 minutes until it connects with Trail 586 (still called trail 7a on some maps, also 6d) at 3:23. Take a right and climb a little higher until it levels out. Follow this for 50 minutes through vineyards straight into Volastra (4:25) and you'll see signs for Manarola. This is Trail 506 (or 6).
Down the 1100+ steps for 10 minutes (4:39). (total 5.5km, 3.4mi)
3.52pm - Arrive in Manarola (4:45), explore for 1 hour (includes eating too)
4.50pm - Via dell'Amore is still closed, so we took Trail 531 up and over (5:37). Very steep up (600+ stairs), slippery steep rock/sandy trail down. Difficult, but short. (1km, 0.62mi)
5.38pm - Arrive in Riomaggiore (6:35)
5.45pm - Take the train back to La Spezia (6:45)

Riomaggiore e Manarola, Cinque Terre, Italia
9/11/2017
Revisited Riomaggiore and Manarola briefly to collect memories from three years ago, but I didn't jump into the water this time. Weather was nice, yet trail condition was worse than three years ago; none of the coastal trails between the five villages was open on this day. I tried the high path from Riomaggiore to Manarola and it was shut too.

Cinque Terre: Exploring Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, & Riomaggiore, Italy
Walking in the tiny streets of the Cinque Terre towns. Exploring the windy villages of Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, & Rimaggiore.
TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*Each town is tiny so it doesn't take that long to explore
*Each town has impressive viewpoints
*Video is made to be paired with the Monterosso video:
*Also to go with the hiking Cinque Terre Highlight Video:
*Vernazza has one main street with shops and restaurants
*Corniglia offered the most exploring with windy, narrow streets with many shopping opportunities and great, high views of the ocean.
*Manarola and Riomaggiore are very hilly and they both have one main street with several shops and restaurants.
*Riomaggiore has some newer paths that overlook the city, just walk up as high as you can and explore!
*Overall, although Monterosso al Mare is not as photographic as the other towns, but Monterosso was our favorite town to explore as it was also the largest and the flattest, plus it was the only one with a an accessible beach.

Riomaggiore, Manarola
We continued the trip around the Cinque Terre and the next stops were RIomaggiore and Manarola- two of the most photogenic spots in the coast.
I do recommend just to get lost in these towns and let the destiny choose paths for your walk, since every single corner is filled up with the beauty !)))
The other little secret, take the boat!!! It's worth it!!! Only by boat you can see how unique the Cinque Terre is and what is the story behind...

Riomaggiore (Italy) - July 2016 Part 1
Video by Andrey Shagin
Видео: Андрей Шагин
Riomaggiore (Rimazùu in the local Ligurian language) is a village and comune in the province of La Spezia, situated in a small valley in the Liguria region of Italy. It is the first of the Cinque Terre one meets when travelling north from La Spezia.
Riomaggiore, the first village of the Cinque Terre
The village, dating from the early thirteenth century, is known for its historic character and its wine, produced by the town's vineyards. Riomaggiore is in the Riviera di Levante region and has a shoreline on the Mediterranean's Gulf of Genoa, with a small beach and a wharf framed by tower houses. Riomaggiore's main street is Via Colombo, where numerous restaurants, bars, and shops can be found.
The Via dell'Amore is a path connecting Riomaggiore to its frazione Manarola, also part of the Cinque Terre.
Riomaggiore is the most southern village of the five Cinque Terre, all connected by trail. The water and mountainside have been declared national parks.
Riomaggiore inspired paintings by Telemaco Signorini (1835–1901), one of the artists of the Macchiaioli group.

Hiking from Manarola to Corniglia (high path), Cinque Terre
9/11/2017
Three years ago (2014) I did this hike to stay away from the crowd. It turned out a pleasant surprise. (posted here:
This year (2017) I did it again because this was the only trail open on this day; all coastal and high-path trails between the five villages were closed except this. (You pay a fee for coastal trails but high-paths are free.) Despite the crowd I am still happy to end my last day in Italy on this beautiful trail. Here's my hike time: 11-ish am to 3pm. Most people can probably do it in 3 hours but I took my time.
Hike from Manarola to Riomaggiore (Via Beccara)
This hike is the easiest one in the Cinque Terre through the Lover's Lane. However after the floods, this lane was closed and hence the only way is through Via Beccara, a short trail yet extremely tough. The plus point is that the views during the hike are to die for!
