Train World is a railway museum in Brussels (Belgium) and the official museum of the National Railway Company of Belgium. It is located in the preserved buildings of Schaarbeek railway station. Train World is a showcase for the railways of the past, present and future with over 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) and 22 locomotives on display. It also displays 1,200 other objects, including an original 19th-century railway bridge. One of the most important artifact in the museum is the Pays de Waes locomotive, dating to 1842, which is the oldest preserved locomotive in Continental Europe; Brussels, Belgium 2018. Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek Station is one stop from Brussels Nord, and the location of “Train World”, Belgium ’s national railway museum.
1343 hrs: 1882 & 1902 “top & tail” an intercity passenger service.
1350 hrs: AM80 Sets 333 & 439
1351 hrs: 1816 with an inbound service
1353 hrs: AM80 Sets 395 & 351
1354 hrs: High speed line rescue/maintenance locos 5506 & 5512 with 2 AM73 sets passing behind.
1357 hrs: loco 1802/186347-1 with a petroleum service is overtaken by a Brussels bound Thalys (set 4537), followed closely by 2 AM80 set in the opposite direction.
1400 hrs: 186 005-2 & 2810 with an Amsterdam bound International service, followed by 2807 & 186xxx with a Brussels bound service.
Train World - Nieuw spoorwegmuseum in Schaarbeek
Aan het station van Schaarbeek is het nieuwe treinmuseum Train World klaar voor opening. Het spoorwegpatrimonium, dat voorheen verspreid was over een vijftal locaties, werd de voorbije jaren verzameld op een enkele plaats, en wordt vrijdag voor het grote publiek geopend. Directeur Pieter Jonckers mikt op 100.000 bezoekers per jaar.
De blikvanger van het museum is de indrukwekkende locomotief type 12 (Atlantic), die in 1939 al een snelheid van 120 kilometer per uur haalde. Ook de Pays de Waes, de oudste bewaarde locomotief op het Europese vasteland, heeft een ereplaats. In totaal zijn er over 8.000 vierkante meter 22 stuks rollend materieel tentoongesteld. Daarnaast zijn er talloze maquettes en meer dan 1.200 voorwerpen, net als een originele brug uit de 19de eeuw.
De belangrijkste doelgroepen van Train World zijn scholen en gezinnen met kinderen. Zij mogen bijna overal op- en inklauteren, en kunnen bijvoorbeeld ook plaatsnemen in een simulator.
België had tot nu toe geen volwaardig spoorwegmuseum, klonk het maandag bij de voorstelling van Train World aan de pers. Vanaf nu kunnen we ons meten met de buurlanden.
Het hele project Train World, inclusief de renovatie van het station van Schaarbeek - gelegen aan de oudste spoorlijn van België -, kostte ongeveer 25 miljoen euro. De decors werden uitgewerkt door striptekenaar François Schuiten. Het museum wordt donderdag officieel geopend door de koning.
Een toegangsbewijs voor een volwassenen zal 10 euro kosten. Alle informatie op trainworld.be.
