Trama Textiles in Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala
A visited the Trama Textiles co-operative in Quetzaltenango (Xela). Since 1988 it has helped women by providing training, education and a place to sell their textiles. The Guatemalan civil war left many women unable to provide for their families. It has grown over the years and is now comprised of 400 women from 5 regions of the Western Highland area of Guatemala. The textiles are sold locally and internationally, and the co-op also provides opportunities for visitors to see products being made and to learn how to make something themselves.

Weaving on the Backstrap Loom
Weaving on a backstrap loom, the traditional weaving style of the Mayan people, at the Trama Textiles cooperative in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. The annotations outline the two main processes/ steps of weaving (they're the same thing, except the two processes alternate which half of the warp threads are raised).

This is a video we made for our Global Ethics Project. TRAMA is a group of Guatemalan women who weave their own projects to sell to make money so they can live a better life and give a better life to their children and families.
