Trandumskogen - A timelapse short film
The closest neighbour to Gardermoen international airport in Oslo, Norway is the World War 2 memorial site of Trandumskogen. Between 1940 and 1945 the enemy secretly executed 194 prisoners and buried them in 21 unmarked graves. The site offers some unique structures and a peaceful but eerie location, which I set out to capture in this timelapse experimental film. The film was shot between september 2015 and january 2016 in temperatures as low as - 25 Celsius /- 12 Fahrenheit. I must say the camera and Kesslers time-lapse gear held up beautifully under these conditions!
This is not a typical timelapse film, rather more experimental. I wanted to do something very different from the classic and beautiful postcard and milky way scenery, aiming to convey the eerie mood and sad beauty of this place.
The shots were lit with torches and large candles in addition to the available natural light. Night-time lapsing was challenging due to the closeness to the airport.
Instead of using music, I wanted to compose a track based only on ambient sounds.
The equipment used was:
Canon EOS 6Dn
EF 14 2,8L USM II
EF 16-35 2,8L USM II
EF 24-70 2,8L USM
Kessler 5' Cineslider
Kessler 8' Shuttlepod mini
Kessler Second shooter 5 axis motion control (slide, pan, tilt, focus and zoom)
Lens Muff
Trandumskogen
Next to Oslo airport Gardermoen, at the World War 2 memorial site of Trandumskogen, where 173 Norwegians, 15 Russians and
6 Brits were executed and burried in unmarked graves.
These unique structures are the remains of a tank shooting range.
