The Dresden Transport Museum displays vehicles of all modes of transport, such as railway, shipping, road and air traffic, under one roof. The museum is housed in the Johanneum at the Neumarkt in Dresden. The Johanneum was built between 1586 and 1590; it is one of the oldest museum buildings in Dresden.
The history of the Dresden Transport Museum begins on 1 May 1952. On that day, negotiations started between the Hochschule für Verkehrswesen (High School for Transportation) and the Ministry of Transport for the construction of a transport museum in the German Democratic Republic. The museum was mainly intended to house the exhibits of the Saxon Railway Museum that had been evacuated during the Second World War. After Dresden was confirmed as the location, the first vehicles were stabled in a locomotive shed at Dresden's Neustadt station. Six employees began the development of the museum, and by 1953, two small exhibitions were on display. The actual opening in the then still badly damaged Johanneum took place in 1956. The first exhibition showed on the ground floor 120 years of Saxon Transport history. The first director was Elfriede Rehbein.
On 24 November 1958, the museum was transferred into the ownership of the Ministry of Transport. Renovation of the interior was completed in 1966, and the façade followed in 1968. The roof was not covered in copper, but in Duraluminium in keeping with aircraft construction techniques. Since the inauguration of the aviation exhibition in the 1970s, all means of transport, including railway, cars and bicycles, shipping, and air traffic, have been on display in the museum.
Because of the limited space in the Johanneum, not all the exhibits are based here. Numerous locomotives are stationed in the former Deutsche Reichsbahn locomotive depot (Betriebswerk or Bw) at Dresden-Altstadt. Furthermore, several vehicles have been loaned to other museums. The lack of space in the Johanneum prompted several discussions during the 1990s about moving the museum. However, the plan was not realized for financial reasons.

The Dresden Tram system is extensive both within the city centre and out into the suburbs. It is a well used public transport system.
This film features rear view 'down the line' footage taken from a number 8 tram for the entire length of the journey from Hellerau to Südvorstadt. This film features rear view 'down the line' footage taken from a number 8 tram for the journey from Infineon Süd to Hellerau, both of which are in the Northern suburbs of Dresden. The footage includes the tram lines through woodland and along suburban streets including Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and Moritzburger Weg.

Scenes and stills from the Dresden Tramway Museum. It was understood to be the first public opening of the year on this weekend for this museum for 2015. Unlike other museums which are purely static or have short sections of track, this museum is fortunate to have an existing network to run historic vehicles.

The Bundesautobahn 4 (European route E40) crosses Dresden in the northwest from west to east. The Bundesautobahn 17 leaves the A4 in a south-eastern direction. In Dresden it begins to cross the Ore Mountains towards Prague. The Bundesautobahn 13 leaves from the three-point interchange Dresden-Nord and goes to Berlin. The A13 and the A17 are on the European route E55. Several Bundesstraße roads crossing or running through Dresden. There are two main inter-city transit hubs in the railway network in Dresden: Dresden Hauptbahnhof and Dresden-Neustadt railway station. The most important railway lines run to Berlin, Prague, Leipzig and Chemnitz. A commuter train system (Dresden S-Bahn) operates on three lines alongside the long-distance routes. Dresden Airport is the city's international airport, located at the north-western outskirts of the town. Its infrastructure has been improved with new terminals and a motorway access route.Dresden has a large tramway network operated by Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe, the municipal transport company. The CarGoTram is a tram that supplies Volkswagen's Transparent Factory, crossing the city. The transparent factory is located not far from the city centre next to the city's largest park. The districts of Loschwitz and Weisser Hirsch are connected by the Dresden Funicular Railway.

The Dresden Street Trams
On August 22nd, my mom's friend from Sebnitz took us on a train trip from Bad Schandau to Dresden. We were going to the Hygiene Museum, which is basically exactly what it sounds like: The German Museum of the Human Body. This was the same day I filmed that video of the luggage conveyor belt, and the Dresden S-Bahn.

Walking in DRESDEN / Germany - Central Station to Old Town and back - 4K 60fps (UHD)
A quick walk from the train station to the old town of Dresden as I had an hour between busses. On this winter Sunday evening the inner city of Dresden is fairly quiet with the shops closed. A few tourists check out the beautiful Old Town of Dresden which is worth visiting any time of the year.
We start at the Dresden Main Station and walk along the Prager Straße towards Old Town. There we check out the Frauenkirche, see the Elbe river, Semperoper and Zwinger before heading back to Dresden Hauptbahnhof (main station).
No vlog, no intrusive faces or talking - just walking for about an hour enjoying the Elbflorenz.

This special service was operated exclusively by ČKD Tatra T4D's on this day in conjunction with the Straßenbahnmuseum's first open day for 2015. Once common in former DDR cities, it is becoming ever more difficult to ride these trams with most systems replacing these cars with newer low floor vehicles.
