Trat Walking Tour - Discover Trat with Thinglish Lifestyle
You know when you live a place but never really find the time to check out all the cool or interesting places to go? Well, we are like that too!
Last year we went back to London and even though I lived there for over a decade, we both had fun discovering/rediscovering it together as a couple of tourists. It’s been the same with Trat.
Walking @ Trat - Trat Walking Tour
We have lived in Trat province for nearly four years, first on Koh Chang island for a couple of years and now near Khao Saming, just outside Trat city.
We recently picked up a Walking @Trat map from ‘Check-In Trat’ when we dropped in for some ice tea (and left with food, books and t-shirts) and decide to finally put our best feet forward and discover Trat…
Join us on a brutally hot day as we check out the sights and sounds of Trat City.
Places visited included:
Statue of King Chulalongkorn
Trat City Museum
The City Pillar Shrine
Buppharam Temple
Crab Noodle Sukhumvit
Phai Om Temple
Rai-Rang Market
Rasidanggamport Residence
Cha-Ruen Road
Trat Walking Tour Tips
Trat is a small and safe market town, so grab a map and have a wonder around. We would also recommend you go ‘off-map’ and amble where-ever life takes you. You never know what you may find and we promise you, you will not get lost!
Remember to take the following item to have a safe and enjoyable walkabout: Walking @ Trat Map, drinking water, hat, sunglasses, umbrella, sandals or sneakers, mini fan and sunscreen.

Day 5 (Trat ตราด): Eastern Thailand Food and Travel Tour. Watch all 8 videos here:
Trat is a beautiful and relaxed town in Eastern Thailand. The people are friendly and the food is outstanding. But nothing compares to the incredible and giant sized seafood you’ll find. After eating some street food in the morning, we then met up with the fantastic crew from Trat Food ( to eat one of the most amazing seafood meals of my life - including giant alien mantis shrimp!
Kuay Teow Boo Sukhumvit (ร้านก๋วยเตี๋ยวปูสุขุมวิท) - Morning market in Trat is nice to visit but there’s not much cooked food to eat. So for breakfast we went to a legendary restaurant for a couple spicy breakfast dishes.
Mantis shrimp holy basil (ข้าวกระเพรากั้ง)
Crab eggs with chilies (ข้าวพริกขี้หนูปูไข่)
Price - 50 THB ($1.60) per plate
Khao Gaeng San Toong Ek Sinchon (ข้าวแกงแสนตุ้งเอกสินชล) - If you ask anyone in Trat where to eat spicy curries, many will mention the Shell pump gas station curry restaurant. They serve San Toong style Trat curry here and it’s amazing.
Pork garcinia cowa (หมูชะมวง)
Wild boar curry (แกงหมูป่า)
Sour pineapple curry (แกงส้มสับปะรด)
Bird curry (แกงนก)
Deer curry (แกงกวางหน่อสับปะรด)
ไก่กระวาน
Total price - 270 THB ($8.63)
After all the morning Thai food, I was ready to get out, walk around, and explore the sights and attractions in Trat town.
Wat Phai Lom
Trat Museum
Canal walk
Khrua Loong Dee (ครัวลุงตี๋) - For dinner, we drove out, about 30 minutes from town to one of the best seafood restaurants I’ve ever been to. It’s like you’re eating in his home, and he has all the giant seafood fresh and ready to be ordered. We asked Uncle to just hook us up with a set meal and he went straight to work. All the seafood was outstanding, both incredibly fresh and the flavors of the cooking was also outstanding. But the highlight of the meal were the mantis shrimp and the giant mud crabs.
Mantis shrimp (กั้งทอดกระเทียม)
Mud crab (ปูดำ)
Blood cockles (หอยแครง)
Crab fried rice (ข้าวผัดปู)
Grilled shrimp (กุ้งเผา)
Grouper sour soup (ปลาเก๋าต้มส้ม)
Grouper 3 flavors (ปลาเก๋าสามรส)
Total price - 3,300 THB ($105.57)
Again, check out Trat Food (ของกินเมืองตราด): And thanks to them for coming out!

Quaint And Charming Trat Town: Gateway to Koh Chang
Trat Province is the home of Koh Chang, and Koh Mak, two of the most beautiful islands in Thailand. Trat Town, the provincial seat, is usually overlooked by travelers, who most often go directly to the pier for the islands. That's a shame because Trat is a lovely little town, with a lot of traditional Thai charm, old buildings, narrow alleyways between old wooden houses, and a lovely riverfront walkway.

Local Experiences with Thailand's Trat Province Communities
In the Thailand province of Trat, community-based tourism company Local Alike introduced us to three villages eager to provide a fun, educational, and unforgettable experience for travelers.
At the Ban Nam Chiao Ecotourism Community, we learned how to make kao griab ya-nah (shrimp and coconut on rice crisps) and tangme krop; planted mangrove roots in along the river; and met a woman who carries on her village's tradition of ngop hat making.
The Chong Changtune Live Eco-Museum introduced us to its signature Spa de Chong and taught us how to use palm leaves to make a check dam. We also visited a gem museum and got to do some ruby mining of our own.
Last but not least, the Huai Raeng Ecotourism Group showed us how they use their water and land's ample natural resources for food and goods. We learned more about the uses of nipa palm tree leaves and got to try our hand at making a betel leaf-wrapped rice packet. Then came demonstrations for making mangosteen rind soap in a bamboo mold, traditional Thai dessert called khanom chak, and coconut oil.
