What You Need to Know:
1. There's more than one city here
Ottawa refers to the city south of the Ottawa River in the English-speaking province of Ontario. Several bridges connect the capital to its northern neighbor, Gatineau, in the French-speaking province of Quebec.
2. Don't worry too much about money
The Canadian dollar – roughly equivalent in value to the U.S. dollar – is the official currency here. But because Ottawa is so close to the U.S. border, many businesses also accept American money.
3. Bring warm clothing
Average highs during the winter months rarely rise above freezing. If you're planning a winter trip, make sure to bring all the cold-weather necessities like a warm hat, scarf and gloves.

Trunk Road - Nordegg to Coalspur, Alberta - Hwy 734 & 40 - Timelapse
Trunk road from Nordegg to Coalspur turnoff, Alberta. On my way to Hinton, I could have taken the nice paved road but adventure awaits. Part way in I was debating turning around as it was fog, rain, and lots of mud. Almost ditched it a few times. Was I glad to see pavement! Will have to get another video of this road in the dry summer as there is some nice views of the back country.
Nordegg is a hamlet in west-central Alberta, Canada within Clearwater County.[1] It is located in the North Saskatchewan River valley in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, just east of the intersection of the David Thompson Highway and the Highway 734 spur of the Bighorn Highway (the Forestry Trunk Road). A former coal-mining town, it was named after Martin Nordegg and the name probably means North Corner in a German dialect.
Coalspur was established during the construction of the Alberta Coal Branch, a spur line of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (later the Canadian National Railway) during 1911-1912. Located where the east and west lines diverged, it was home to the railroad construction camp and became a transport hub with a roundhouse and repair shops. It later became the headquarters for the Brazeau Forest Reserve and the Alberta Provincial Police.[1]
Soon after the railroad arrived in 1912, a group of British financiers founded the Yellowhead Pass Coal and Coke Company.[2] The original Yellowhead Mine near Coalspur employed 70 men, produced 500 tons of coal per day, and sustained the small community. At the peak of production the mine employed 400 men.[3] A massive underground fire occurred in 1915[4] and again in 1922. The mine closed in 1923, although other mines in the area continued to operate until the 1950s.[1]
One of the earliest oil wells in the central Alberta foothills was drilled near Coalspur. In 1924 Imperial Oil sank a test well near the community, and discovered a significant flow of natural gas that was used to heat boilers in the mining camp. No commercial quantity of petroleum was found however, and drilling ceased near Coalspur,[5] although several natural gas fields were later discovered in the Coal Branch area.[1]
The population throughout the Coal Branch area declined during the 1950s as the railroads replaced steam locomotives with diesel, and the mines closed due to lack of markets. The Coalspur post office, which opened in 1914, closed in 1963. Today the community is home to a dozen or so residents.

AMAZING Mountain Biking at the Canmore Nordic Centre - Alberta, Canada
Sorry for the shaky gimbal! It was low on battery power, and apparently needs more juice to work properly! You can tell it gets worse through the course of the ride.
Anyway, this was without a doubt one of, if not THE favorite ride in my short history of mountain biking! The tires hitting those roots is like music to my ears! The dirt here was absolutely perfect, and the trail was SO MUCH FUN! If you are ever in Canmore, be sure to check it out!
