The greater Luoyang area has been sacred ground since the late Neolithic period. This area at the intersection of the Luo and Yi rivers was considered to be the geographical center of China. Because of this sacred aspect, several cities – all of which are generally referred to as Luoyang – have been built in this area. In 2070 BC, the Xia Dynasty king Tai Kang moved the Xia capital to the intersection of Luo river and Yi River and named the city Zhenxun . In 1600 BC, King Tang of Shang defeated Jie, the final Xia Dynasty king, and built Western Bo, a new capital on the Luo River. The ruins of Western Bo are located in Luoyang Prefecture.

Luoyang, China Part 1
November 2016 - Luoyang is one of the oldest imperial capital cities in China with many impressive culture heritages which are dated back to the Song Dynasty.
Luoyang is situated along the northern side of the Luo River. The train station is located to the north of the town centre, and Jinguyuan Lu (金谷园路) goes from the station to Wangcheng Square. To the east is the Old Town and to the west the Wangcheng Park. Tourists come here primarily to see the Longmen Caves, The White Horse Temple and Guanlin Temple which all lie in proximity to the town, rather than the town itself.

The over night train from Luoyang to Hangzhou leaves from the Luoyang train station. If you get the 4-person cabin, you can wait in the VIP area behind and to the right of the station convenience store. Sleeping on the train is difficult for some, but can be made easier with the use of earplugs and eye shades. The cabin temperature can be adjusted. Also, there is an outlet (220V) for charging your cell phone or lap top. Bring your own mug and you can make your own coffee or tea with the boiling water available near the wash room. Bring your own towel, wash cloth and toilet paper. Also, hand sanitizer solution is a good idea. Some reports indicate that sleeping on the top bunks is easier. Be sure that your train tickets specify the day that you ask for. Get the return ticket from the train station at Hangzhou as soon as you get off the train. Also, note the car and cot number. Each cabin has four cots starting with 1. So 1-4 are in one cabin, 5-8 in the next cabin and so forth, up to 29-32. The western toilet is near the washroom at the low numbered end and the squat toilet is at the other end of the car. The dining car is car number 9, but it's probably best to have dinner before boarding the train.

Luoyang Lijing Gate & Old Town
First build in the Sui Dynasty, Lijing Gate was the west gate of the ancient Luoyang City. It had been restored from 2002 to 2004. After restoration, the Lijing Gate has become one of the eight most famous scenic spots in Luoyang.
Passing through the Lijing Gate, the tourists will enter the Luoyang Old Town, which keeps its original conditions very well. There they can not only find old houses full of history but also have a taste of water banquet which comprises a set of Chinese dishes cooked in various broths, gravies, or juices.
