All India Cycle Journey 2017 I Solo Travel I Guinness Record attempt I Adventure travel
“A journey to touch million lives”
To fulfill a dream you have to dream first,’ goes the adage. And my dream has always been to be on the road. The thrill of witnessing unknown is the key that keeps me going further and motivates me to pedal greater distances on the road ahead.
For me personally, I get lost into a wonderland while I’m cycling and travelling solo to a lost world. The hour or hour and a half of cycling goes by in a fraction of a second. It is a once in a lifetime experience to travel through different states in India, different cultures and meet different people. An experience that I don’t want to miss. Cycling is something that does not exhaust me, but something that calms me.
For more stories across India follow and read:

New Guinness Record
(Facebook event:
Many cycle expeditions have been accomplished and many peaks have been surmounted on one saddle and two pedals. And all this sums up to almost 12,000 km in India within last 15 months but an incomplete desire was simmering within me. An International title of Super Randonneur from France was satisfying to me and earning it for the first time in Rajasthan was even more satisfying but something was still missing deep down in my heart making me restless. The biggest journey and a Guinness record was missing and my obsession led me eyeing for the one.
The supreme thing I have learnt is that ‘’To gain something you never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.’’ I found my challenge which is to map the whole country of India with a bicycle. 12,000 km in 6 Indian states with a recent National Record in India Book of Records” and an international title of super randonneur from France has increased my thirst for greater miles and mightier mountains. So next I am embarking upon this Cycle journey to the all 29 states and 7 UTs in India and make a new Guinness World Record of Longest Journey by bicycle in India. I will be covering 21,000 km to know the true soul of our country.
Back Roads of India
I have also made my biggest discovery -the roads of India are very much like its people – simple, serene and welcoming. I have crossed many highways on a solo sprint to complete my much-desired cycle expedition in the back roads of India.
This expedition like my previous ones is going to teach me a great deal about myself as well – my strength, stamina, and the limits to which I can push myself. Riding across the four corners of India and enduring every weather like the treacherous temperature which ranges from -1 to 1 degrees in Ladakh and 45 degrees in Thar desert can teach you a lot about the human body’s endurance. I will also have the opportunity to meet some amiable locals who will greet me congenially and share their limited food and water earnestly. Unmindful of the scorching heat, forever smiling impish kids will wave out to me on the road.
To tell the truth, a traveller is never alone on the roads; as he/she has the company of either people or his own thoughts.
The involvement of Innovation Roots ( and other corporates where a humongous amount of population get in daily, is instrumental when they get concerned for the society and launch a drive in the company to promote the use of solar power through my ride.
Universal Conspiracy
My desire was to join the masses together in this campaign. And as a famous film dialogue says it all, “When you really want something, the universe always conspires in your favour.” I experienced it when ‘Innovation Roots’ ( a corporate from Bengaluru came forward and joined in for the cause on my single solicitation. These gestures brought my dream closer to me.
I started this journey alone but thanks to Innovation Roots for coming forward and associating with me to help make this dream journey bigger. I feel proud to announce the official Title sponsor of my journey -- 'Innovation Roots
INNOVATION ROOTS is an end-to-end Agile Software Development Solution Provider and Consultancy, having expertise of thousands of consulting hours in Agile, Kanban, Scrum, SAFe and Lean Start-ups ways of working. They provide Education, Skill Transfer & Mentoring services to their customers to Create Things of Great Value by growing People, Operations and Business Agility.
Innovation starts from within... And it has the power to lead zillions of people.
My escapades till date have turned out to be a great teachings for me that no book ever can render. And the foremost thing that I learnt from this challenge is to overcome our limits and fear of failure which lies deep down inside us.

In search of truth - Daria or Durgai Nath on the sadhus in India
Durga Nat’s or Durga Nath's original name was Diana (or Daria?). It is an Italian name. Her mother brought her to India when they were travelling from London to Malaysia. Ever since she came to India, 12 years ago she has been in a search of a true yogi who would train and monitor her. The search was quite challenging as nowadays the proper knowledge and wisdom is disappearing, the real sadhus would not even sit with a Western woman and discuss about the culture and religious beliefs of India. Eventually she realized in the anthropological senses that the key to enter into the sadhu world is to get the mala that originally comes from the family of sadhus. Finally she met the true guru who agreed to train her. He gave her the mala, mantra and a new name - Durga Nat and she was a reborn as a new human being. Currently God predestines everything in her life and every decision is made by God. In her opinion it is this belief that makes Hinduism different. She didn’t find spirituality and truth in the Western culture and belief. Her family excluding her mother considers her to be irrational. Her mother understands and respects the spirituality in her life, as she is the researcher of truth. Presently the primary goal in her life is to explore the truth in the religion of Hinduism.

Hand crafted and hand woven Banarasi sarees from master weavers in Varanasi
Banarasi saris are saris made in Varanasi, a city which is also called Benares. These saris are historically considered to be among the finest saris in India and are known for their gold and silver brocade or zari, fine silk and opulent embroidery, and being highly sought after. These saris are made of finely woven silk and are decorated with intricate design, and because of these engravings, these saris are relatively heavy. Their special characteristics are Mughal inspired designs such as intricate intertwining floral and foliate motifs, kalga and bel, a string of upright leaves called jhallar at the outer, edge of border is a characteristic of these sarees. Other distinctive features are Heavy gold work, Compact weaving, figures with small details, metallic visual effects, pallus, jal and mina work. These saris are an inevitable part of any Indian bride's trousseau.
Depending upon the intricacy of designs and patterns, a sari can take anywhere from 15 days to a one month and sometimes up to six months to complete. Banarasi saris are mostly worn by Indian women on important occasions such as when attending a wedding and are expected to be complemented by the woman's best jewelry. Today there are four main varieties of Banarasi sari, which includes pure silk (Katan), Organza (Kora) with Zari and silk; Georgette, and Shattir, and according to design process, they are divided into categories like, Jangla, Tanchoi, Vaskat, Cutwork, Tissue and Butidar.
Over the years, the Banarasi Silk handloom industry has been incurring huge losses because of the unfair competition from mechanised units producing the 'Baranasi silk sarees' at a much faster rate and at much cheaper cost, another source of competition has been sarees made of cheaper synthetic alternatives to silk. In 2009, after two years of wait, weaver associations in Uttar Pradesh, secured Geographical Indication (GI) rights for the 'Banaras Brocades and Sarees'. GI is an intellectual property right, which identifies a good as originating in a certain region where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the product is essentially attributable to its geographical origin.
Varanasi also commonly known as Benares or Benaras and Kashi, is a city situated on the banks of the River Ganges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, 320 kilometres (199 mi) southeast of state capital Lucknow. It is regarded as a holy city by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and the oldest in India.

Group 4 G4S Security guards pose for us at Maruti Suzuki Gurgaon plant
On 18th July 2012, Maruti's Manesar plant was hit by violence as workers at one of its auto factories attacked supervisors and started a fire that killed a company official and injured 100 managers, including two Japanese expatriates. The violent mob also injured 9 policemen. The company's General Manager of Human Resources had both arms and legs broken by his attackers, unable to leave the building that was set ablaze, and was charred to death. The incident is the worst-ever for Suzuki since the company began operations in India in 1983.
Since April 2012, the Manesar union had demanded a five-fold increase in basic salary, a monthly conveyance allowance of INR 10,000, a laundry allowance of INR 3,000, a gift with every new car launch, and a house for every worker who wants one or cheaper home loans for those who want to build their own houses. In addition to this compensation and normal weekend/holidays, the union demanded the current 4 paid weeks of vacation be increased to 7 weeks, plus each worker have 40 days allowance of sick and casual leave - for a total of 75 days. Initial reports claimed wage dispute and a union spokesman alleged the incident may be caste-related. According to the Maruti Suzuki Workers Union a supervisor had abused and made discriminatory comments to a low-caste worker. These claims were denied by the company and the police. The supervisor alleged was found to belong to a tribal heritage and outside of Hindu caste system; further, the numerous workers involved in violence were not affiliated with caste either. Maruti said the unrest began, not over wage discussions, but after the workers' union demanded the reinstatement of a worker who had been suspended for beating a supervisor. The workers claim harsh working conditions and extensive hiring of low-paid contract workers which are paid about $126 a month, about half the minimum wage of permanent employees. Maruti employees currently earn allowances in addition to their base wage. Company executives denied harsh conditions and claim they hired entry-level workers on contracts and made them permanent as they gained experience. It was also claimed that bouncers were deployed by the company.
Maruti Suzuki in its statement on the unrest, announced that all work at the Manesar plant has been suspended indefinitely. A Suzuki spokesman said Manesar violence won't affect the auto maker's business plans for India. The shut down of Manesar plant is leading to a loss of about Rs 75 crore per day. On July 21, 2012, citing safety concerns, the company announced a lockout under The Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 pending results of an inquiry the company has requested of the Haryana government into the causes of the disorder. Under the provisions of The Industrial Disputes Act wages, the report claimed, employees are expected to be paid for the duration of the lockout. On July 26 2012, Maruti announced employees would not be paid for the period of lock-out in accordance with labour laws of India. The company further announced that it will stop using contract workers by March 2013. Source: wikipedia

Solving 3 Types of Circular Track Problems (First Meeting, Meeting at Start, Meeting Points)
Mayank Bomb in this class discusses how to solve the Circular Track problems quickly.
Relative Velocity
Relative Velocity @0:25
Relative Velocity on a Circle @3:04
Key Problems @5:03
Variations @5:24
Three person A and B run along a circular path with speeds of 6 kmph, 2 kmph respectively. If the length of circular path is 24 km. After what time will they meet again and meet at the starting point again? (Same direction) @5:33
Three person A, B, C run along a circular path with speeds 6 kmph, 4kmph, 8 kmph respectively. If length of circular path is 24 km. After what time will the meet again at starting point? @10:54
Three person A, B, C run along a circular path with speeds of 6 kmph, 4 kmph, 8 kmph respectively. If the length of circular path is 24 km. After what time will the meet again? @11:51
A can run one full round of a circular track in 6 min and B in 15 min, If both A and B start simultaneously from the same starting point then he many times would they meet in the time B has completed 10 rounds when running in same direction, and in opposite direction @13:30
In a 400 meter race around a circumference of 1000 meters, the fastest and the slowest runner reach the same point at the end of the 5th minute, for the first time after the start of the race. If the time taken by the fastest runner to finish the race? @16:50
Number of Meeting Points @18:16
Suppose A and B are running a 3 km race in a circular track of length 300m. Speeds of A and B are in the ratio 4:3. How many times and when would the winner pass the other? @24:08
X, Y and Z move along a circular path of length 12 km with speed of 6 km/h, 8 km/h and 9 km/h respectively. X and Y move in the same direction but Z moves in opposite direction. If they all start at the same time and from same place, how many times will X and Z meet anywhere on the path by the time X and Y meet for the first time anywhere on the path? @26:53
A and B run in opposite directions on a circle. A runs in the clockwise direction. A and B meets B first time at a point 500 m away in clockwise direction. A meets B second time at a point 400 m away in anticlockwise direction from starting point. If B is Y to complete one round, what is the circumference of the circle? @29:05
