Santiago De Cuba, Travel Guide, Eastern Cuba
A visit to Santiago De Cuba, including street walking, San Pedro De La Roca, Moncada Barracks, Hotel San Basilio and Hotel Casa Granda.
From the waterfront we meandered up through the old town, an area once, populated by French escapees from the 19th-century Haitian revolution.
We were heading for the old art deco Moncada Barracks, significant because they were the location of Castro’s first amateur attempt at a revolution against the dictator Batista. The barracks turned out to be closed, so we stood outside and looked at the bullet holes on the side of the building.
Our accommodation was the very grand and comfortable Hotel San Bastillo. It was a great place to relax with a cold drink and enjoy the airy green foyer.
English language books are hard to find in Cuba, but the Hotel San Bastillio even an intriguing library.
In the evening we headed out to the old spanish fort of San Pedro de la Roca, which sits imposingly at the harbour mouth, just outside town.
After all that informative history it seemed appropriate to return to town, head to the rooftop bar at the Hotel Casa Granda, get a drink and recount the day's activities.

UNESCO has called el Morro castle the best preserved and most complete example of Spanish American military architecture in the world, it's a sight to be seen.
Take a short boat ride to Cayo Granma, a pedestrian only island where you'll meet Pedro, the leader of a community art project, Suenos y Fantasia, that gives children a chance to use their imaginations and turn recycled materials into art.
Next a visit to the Tumba Francesa society. The Tumba Francesa is Santiago's signature musical representation.
A visit to the Cementerio de Santa Ifigenia is a must. This is where Jose Marti was buried as well as many other Cuban patriots.

Travel Vlog: Cuba Day 4 Art, History and Culture!
Hola amigos! Thanks for your patience and consistency throughout this Cuba journey! I appreciate all the love and support. Remember to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE to my channel for more travel videos!
This is Day 4 in Cuba and once again, another beautiful day! Spending more time with my family has been the best! We went to the downtown part of Cuba where artists and vendors are showcasing their artwork. Simply AMAZING the kinds of art and expression that the people of Cuba naturally possess. Art is a huge part of their culture whether it be Music, Painting, Singing, Instrumentals, Dancing, etc. The authentic art vibes were soooo real!
We also visited the Jesus Christ Statue (Christ of Havana). It was super tall and very detailed. I am not super religious in this aspect, but it is beautiful to see amazing architecture.
As well as the House of Che Guevara. Such great historical preservation of Cuba and the people involved in their independence and freedom.
Always, the day is topped off with some amazing food!
Thanks for tuning in! See you on the next video
