WHERE IS CATANIA ITALY?
…AND THINGS TO DO IN CATANIA, ITALY
Instead of taking the train, ferry, train combo from Syracuse all the way back to Rome. I took a train from Syracuse here to Catania. Catania is the second-largest city in Sicily and located on the East coast of the island.
Since Catania has its own airport I thought I could explore the city for a day then catch a plane directly to Rome.
Yes, I’m a fan of sustainability but sometimes…I need to sustain my sanity.
So we got a little less than 24 hours to hit the bricks and figure out what to do in Catania.

Catania Sicily (4K) / Italy Travel Vlog #231 / The Way We Saw It
Our last vlog from Italy comes from Catania, the second largest city in Sicily. Catania is somewhat less agitated than Palermo and lives strongly from the sea. This can be witnessed at the daily fish market in the city center. But this city has much more to offer...

Sicily Catania at Night / IS IT SAFE - Vlog 1
Streets and monuments in Catania at night while I walk around the narrow dark street.
So I traveled from the UK and arrived late in Catania and went for a night walk to see the sights by moon light. It seemed relatively safe apart from some of the dark narrow alleyways and streets with graffiti on the walls on roads away from the centre.
I went to Piazza Duom, saw the cathedral, the University Piazza and the main road that runs through the city as well as a few others.

Sicily: Mount Etna, Taormina & Northeastern Sicily with Sarah Murdoch | Rick Steves Travel Talks
In this travel talk, Rick Steves' Europe co-author and tour guide Sarah Murdoch explains how Mount Etna — the still-active volcano simmering in Sicily's northeastern corner — gave rise to the island, and still dominates it today. We'll also drop in on the posh resort of Taormina, Catania — Sicily's gritty second city, with a good WWII museum — and the charming beach town of Cefalù.

Exploring The City Of Catania Italy
Catania is an ancient port city on Sicily's east coast. It sits at the foot of Mt. Etna, an active volcano. The city's wide central square, Piazza del Duomo, features the whimsical Fontana dell'Elefante statue and richly decorated Catania Cathedral. In the southwest corner of the square, La Pescheria weekday fish market is a rowdy spectacle surrounded by seafood restaurants.

Catania - The City that Rose from the Ashes of Mount Etna
The city of Catania is a large urban complex with a lovely historic centre ideal for a cultural and fun holiday. Noisy and chaotic, a bit too much for tourist in the beginning, this energetic city probably owes most of its combustion to the large student population. Full of bars, clubs and restaurant, Catania offers plenty of socialisation opportunities, as well as cultural sightseeing.
