The Ultimate Indonesian Food Day Trip - HUGE Nasi Liwet Feast!
►Check out my list of 50 incredible Indonesian foods:
►Ken's channel:
During my trip to Jakarta, I mostly remained in the city. But Ken and Gratiana from invited my wife Ying and I to go with them and their family on an Indonesian food trip to Bogor and the surrounding region (about an hour from Jakarta).
Our first stop when we drove out of Jakarta and to Bogor was a famous place to eat Bogor style laksa at a restaurant called Laksa Bogor Pak Inin. It was exactly my kind of a restaurant, open air and local, with a wonderful friendly environment. The laksa was unlike any other laksa I’ve ever had, and it was fantastic. Laksa Bogor - 10,000 IDR ($0.72)
Next, we stopped at a place called Toge Goreng Pak Abung, which is another legendary Indonesian food stop in Bogor, Indonesia, and they are famous for serving a bean sprout snack. It was definitely a very interesting dish, including a mixture of bean sprouts and fermented soy beans. Toge Goreng - 7,000 IDR ($0.51)
Next we drove into the beautiful Indonesian countryside and to the house. After having some Indonesian snacks and refreshing coconut, we then took a hike to go look for honey. The beekeeper was sick on the day we went, so we we’re able to get any honey, but it was still a beautiful hike.
The highlight of this Indonesian food trip for me was the Sundanese style Nasi Liwet Botram family feast that we had. All the food was laid out on banana leaves, and we all sat and ate some of the most beautiful and flavorful Indonesian food. It was an incredible culinary experience.
We drove back to Bogor and stopped at Warung Nasi Ampera to eat a quick dinner, and because I wanted to try some ikan pepes. The food was alright, but nothing compared to the lunch feast we had eaten! Total price - 103,000 IDR ($7.46) for 3 plates of food
Finally, back in Jakarta, we stopped near Manga Besar to have some desserts and to finish of this incredible day of Indonesian food. Sekoteng - 12,000 IDR ($0.87), Wedang Ronde - 12,000 IDR ($0.87)
It was an incredible Indonesian food trip to the outskirts of Bogor, and a nice opportunity to get out of Jakarta for the day.
A big thank you to Ken, Gratiana, and her family for inviting us to their house country house and for the amazing food.

Indonesian Street Food at Gianyar Night Market in Bali - ALL FOOD FOR ONLY $5.07!

Pasar Senggol, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia
The night market in Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia, known as Pasar Senggol is an amazing place to eat a range of different Indonesian Balinese street food!
One evening, we headed over to the market at about 5 pm to start eating, and in this video I’ll show you everything I ate on this Balinese street food tour.
Babi guling - Babi guling, or Balinese style roast pig, is one of the ultimate things you have to eat, especially if you enjoy pork, when you’re in Bali. I started the street food tour off with a plate of babi guling. I was alright, but could have been better had it been hot and fresher.
30,000 IDR ($2.20) per plate
Sweets - Along with full meals, you’ll find an abundance of Indonesian street food snacks and desserts. Klepon was my favorite.
1,000 IDR ($0.7) per box
Nasi ayam campur - This stall served one of the best single plates of food I had in Bali, ayam betutu and some mixed chicken all over a plate of rice with all the toppings and mixes. The food was sensational, packed with flavor.
25,000 IDR ($1.84)
Tipat cantok - Similar to another common Indonesian street food called gado gado, tipat cantok includes rice cakes and bean sprouts in a peanut sauce. It was pretty good, and I enjoyed how you could watch her making it in front of you.
7,000 IDR ($0.51)
Serombotan - Finally, to end this Indonesian street food tour in Bali, I had a serving of something called serombotan, a delicious mixture of vegetables and coconut and shrimp paste. It was surprisingly very good and flavorful.
5,000 IDR ($0.37)

Indonesian Wood Carving - Odd Life Crafting - Ep. 1.3 (Escultura Balinesa)
During our sabbatical time in Bali we got to know more about the balinese culture, like balinese castes, hinduism, and history; as our Balinese friend invited us to go to his balinese village close to Ubud to spent a day with his family and we had the opportunity of having an Indonesian wood carving class. Roberta
“After I finished my civil engineering degree in Brazil in the end of 2015 I decided that I wanted to take an extra step. So with the full support of my long time adventure partner I started a Master Degree at Sydney University and that’s how we sold most of our belongings and moved from Brazil to Australia. But 6 months later we realized that actually that was not what we were looking for. So instead of flying back straight to our country, we decided to take a few sabbatical months and travel until the end of 2016. The plan was simple, we wanted to travel to places where it is cheap and/or comfortable, and take the time to think about our own lives so we could decide what we wanted to do from 2017 and on. That’s the story we tell in this first season of Odd Life Crafting” Duca

Bubur Ayam Barito: Chicken Rice Porridge in Jakarta
Check out my list of 50 of the best Indonesian Foods:
Bubur ayam is a very common Indonesian street food dish that you will find all over Jakarta. It is the Indonesian version of rice congee porridge, and one of the most common versions is served with chicken. In this video I went to a restaurant called Bubur Ayam Barito, which is located in South Jakarta, and it's a legendary restaurant when it comes to serving bubur ayam.
It was a really rainy day, it rained the entire day, and even when I thought the rain was starting to clear, it still rained the entire time we walked over to the restaurant. So I thought it was the perfect day to eat rice congee, because it's such a comforting and warming dish - and even though it wasn't cold outside, it was a little bit cooler than a normal day when the sun was shining.
We arrived to Bubur Ayam Barito in the evening, well before the main dinner rush, and they were already packed with hungry customers. But just as we are arrived they were setting up for dinner and so they set up a tent on the side of the sidewalk so that we could get a seat. When you go to Bubur Ayam Barito, they prepare all of the bubur ayam to the left hand side where the kitchen is located. And if you're lucky you can get a seat right there where they are cooking, otherwise there's a huge overflow section underneath the tarp where there're plenty of tables and places to sit.
In order to make the bubur ayam, the rice congee porridge was already prepared. And so he took a spoon and he dished out a portion, and just from looking at him dish it out I could tell how sticky and thick it was. This is not just an ordinary bowl of rice congee, it was topped with a bunch of different items including some sliced shredded chicken, and also put an egg in it, and also with some crunchy things. I also saw a lot of people are eating at Bubur Ayam Barito, and they ordered a couple skewers of chicken innards, which appeared to be deep-fried and on a stick, and so I had to follow.
The bubur ayam, was overall very good, and it was definitely a deluxe bowl of rice congee. However, rice congee is still not my favorite thing to eat, as I usually prefer dishes that are a little bit more spicy and flavorful. But that being said this was a pretty good bowl of rice congee and it definitely tasted good because it was a rainy day as well.
Bubur Ayam Barito
Address: Jalan Gandaria Tengah 3, Kramat Pela, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta
Open hours: 4 pm – 12 am midnight daily
Prices: 42,000 IDR ($3.13) for 2 bowls, 2 skewers of organs.

» THE TRADITIONAL FOOD IN MADAGASCAR
1. TSENA’NY TANTSAHA TALATAMATY: Rice Porridge + Chinese Noodle Soup
ADDRESS: Talatamaty City
OPEN: 3AM - 7AM (or whenever the police shut it down)
Four miles outside of Madagascar’s capital city, Antananarivo, lies Talatamaty City. Talatamaty City is home to one of the country’s largest local morning markets, Tsena’ny Tantsaha. Sellers open up shop at 3am, selling everything from produce to fabrics. And lucky for us, the market has no shortage of food to try as well.
????RICE PORRIDGE: Zebu (Malagasy cattle) and sausage are mixed with leaves, ginger, special Malagasy rice, porridge and spices.
????CHINESE NOODLE DISH: Pasta, macaroni, potato, mayonnaise and zebu skin.
----
2. TALATA VOLON’ONDRY: Sausage + Koba
ADDRESS: Talata Volon’ondry
OPEN: Varies
Talata Volon’ondry is a village located just outside of Antananarivo. The village is known for producing sausage and Madagascar’s national snack, koba.
????SAUSAGE: There are typically two types of sausage being sold - zebu sausage and a halal style potato sausage. This snack is frequently accompanied by local rum.
????????KOBA: Lay out banana leaf spines with banana leaves on top. Add a layer of rice flour to prevent the koba mixture from sticking to the banana leaves. Then add the koba mixture, a combination of crushed raw peanuts and sugar. Wrap it all up in the banana leaves and allow it to cook in a bit of water for 3 days.
Koba is beloved across Madagascar, primarily sold on the street or to people in their cars as they drive through a city. The fuel from the ingredients gives people energy and helps them stay full even when walking long distances without and source of food along the way.
????PRICE: Sausage .14 USD/500 MGA | Koba .50 USD/1,756 MGA
