The Best Model Railroad Layout in HO scale in Port St. Lucie Florida 4K UHD
For almost four decades, the Treasure Coast Model Railroad Club and Historical Society, Inc. have been bringing the fun and historical perspective of model railroading to the Treasure Coast. In 1975 three model railroaders in Vero Beach determined that there was interest in forming a Model Railroad Club. The Club thus had its beginning with this nucleus of interested hobbyists. The Treasure Coast Model Railroad Club declared itself as an actual organization on September 2, 1975.
The railroad is modeled during the transition era between steam and diesel power of US railroads, which occurred between the 1940's to the 1970's. It is HO scale (1:87), utilizing a Digitrax DCC control system.
Layout has two major freight yards, 2 city passenger stations, several industrial complexes, a freight harbor, steel mill and a coal mine. In addition, there are three cities, several towns, lakes, mountains and a desert.
Many of the structures are lit as are signs, street lights, railroad crossings, and even vehicular traffic lights!

The Proto 1000, A-B-A lash-up includes ALCO, DL-105A #270 and 271, and ALCO, PB-1 #270B. All units are powered and fitted with Locsound series 5 decoders.

Note, I know that the GM&O did not have any ALCO, B units either DL-110 or PB-1 or PB-2 on their locomotive roster. But it sure makes for a handsome train.

The Hunt for FEC 109
Jones Drones presents The Hunt for FEC 109 featuring Caboose Mikey of youtube.com/caboosemikey
This video was made in honor of Jim Stobie, for inspiring my train adventures and wanting to share them with the world.
I was trying to get down to FEC's Ft. Pierce yard before the morning trains rolled in so I could see how they conducted their operations. I was surprised to see the head units of the train go by the intersection at Highlands Drive. I took Old Dixie Highway all the way to Ft. Pierce, and by the grace of God I caught nothing but green lights all the way through town, and was able to meet it at the Savannah Road Rairoad Crossing. It was absolutely freezing that morning, and as you can tell by the drone footage, the place I was standing was TOTALLY shaded by trains and clouds so I was shaking like a leaf! FEC Locomotives 813, 309, 711, 703 parked down in the beautiful Savannahs Preserve State Park with gorgeous Indian River Drive running alongside. FEC 920 The Hard Workin' Local can be spotted lining up to leave the yard after 109 was clear (Forgive the typo in the video, once you get something on your brain you know how it is...) Another correction for the record: The Lady in the Prius is probably not a lady. Wait is it okay to say that??? Let me know in the comment section below!! Dozens voice opposition over possible mosque in Port St. Lucie, Florida
Dozens voice opposition over possible mosque in Port St. Lucie, Florida
Alex Browning, Reprter:
April 25, 2017) PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
It was a heated exchange during public comment at Monday's city council meeting. Some residents voiced concerns over a possible mosque off Gatlin Boulevard after seeing a GoFundMe page.
Kelly Ruiz was one of 11.
Are you prepared to tell me as a citizen of Port St. Lucie, these people coming to this center will be properly vetted? Can you give me your word this community will be safe for my family?
The group claimed it would be breeding ground for terrorists.
Others were compelled to stand up during Monday's meeting.
I'm not afraid of another house of worship in my community and I hope you aren't either, one woman said.
Some believed the Islamic Center of Ft. Pierce was moving after being set on fire last year - specifically citing Pulse shooter Omar Mateen.
Wilfredo Ruiz with the Council for American-Islamic Relations denied the fundraising campaign was affiliated with the Islamic Center.
They're looking for property in Ft. Pierce, he said over the phone Tuesday. He warned the comments Monday evening went beyond Islamophobia.
It's against the freedom of religion any religion, Ruiz explained. That is what's at stake now.
Mayor Greg Oravec cautioned the public of making false accusations. At the end of public comment, he read the U.S. Constitution aloud.
Take your comments about the mosque, he said, replace them with one of those other places of worship, say it out loud, if it sounds wrong it is wrong
WPBF 25 News has confirmed there are no official plans or permits filed with the city. Even if there was, the city would not have any authority unless pertaining to city code and zoning regulations.
As of Tuesday morning, the campaign had raised less that $5,000 of its $200,000 goal. The man behind the fundraiser could not be reached Tuesday.

FORT CAROLINE
During the sixteenth century, France was determined to expand its empire. Spain, the world's leading power, already had a foothold in the Americas, and France wanted a share of the riches the Spanish were gaining through trade and plunder. France's first attempt to stake a permanent claim in North America was at La Caroline, a settlement near the mouth of the St. Johns River in Florida.
At first, the settlement was to be a commercial venture, but religious conflict in France broadened the goals. The growing persecution of French Protestants (Huguenots) led their most powerful member, Admiral Gaspard de Coligny, to make a proposal to the crown: the colony could also be a refuge for Huguenots. An exploratory expedition, commanded by Jean Ribault, left France in February 1562. On this voyage, he erected a monument at the River of May (now known as the St. Johns River).
Permanent settlement of 200 soldiers and artisans began in 1564, led by Rene de Goulaine de Laudonniere, who had accompanied Ribault on the previous expedition. With help from the Timucua Indians, the colonists began building a village and fort on the river's south bank, naming the area La Caroline after their king, Charles IX.
Three hundred colonists left France to establish a permanent settlement in North America. Included were some of the leading families of France, wearing gilded armor and brightly colored clothes. Other representatives of French society included artisans to provide entertainment and produce drawings, and laborers to build the fort. The desire for permanency was illustrated by the inclusion of women, of whom at least four had husbands. Most were Huguenots, but there were also Catholics and agnostics. The colonists were seeking opportunity and freedom in a distant land.
French artist Jacques le Moyne de Morgues came with Laudonniere to Florida in 1564. His job was to paint images of the people, flora and fauna, and geography of this part of the New World. Le Moyne was one of the few who escaped from Fort de la Caroline when the Spanish attacked in 1565. He found refuge on a French boat, along with Laudonniere and several others, and returned to Europe, where he recreated from memory scenes of the New World.
In Florida, both Spain and France hoped to claim their piece of the new world. By the time the French planted their settlement at La Caroline, Spain was entrenched in South and Central America and its sea routes through the Caribbean were well established. Spanish ships bearing gold and silver from the mines of Mexico and Peru stopped at Havana before sailing for Spain. They rode the Gulf Stream through what is now the Straits of Florida and up the southeastern coast of North America. The Spanish were uneasy about a French settlement because their treasure ships, while they followed the Florida coast, could be easy prey for suspected French raiders in their nearby haven at La Caroline.
They be all naked and of goodly stature, mighty, faire and as well shapen...as any people in all the worlde, very gentill, curtious and of good nature... the men be of tawny color, hawke nosed and of a pleasant countenance...the women be well favored and modest...
French explorer Jean Ribault was impressed by the first native peoples he encountered in Florida. The Timucuans under Chief Saturiwa, who met the French at the mouth of the River of May in 1562, were one of a number of Timucua-speaking tribes who inhabited central and north Florida and southeastern Georgia. They were the final stage of a culture whose way of life had remained essentially unchanged for more than 1000 years.
