Rock hounding (crystals) at Highway 97 and Westside road.

Took the kids out rock hounding today, looking for zeolites, quartz crystals, Amethyst, and found some citrine too. The new Westside road interchange off highway 97 in West Kelowna has blasted out some of Mount Boucherie's basalt revealing many fresh vugs full of all sorts of Silicates. Some quite exciting.

Aylesbury Virtual walk

Today's Virtual walk is in Aylesbury

The town name is of Old English origin. Its first recorded name Æglesburgh is thought to mean Fort of Ægel, though who Ægel was is not recorded.

Excavations in the town centre in 1985 found an Iron Age hill fort dating from the early 4th century BC. Aylesbury was one of the strongholds of the ancient Britons, from whom it was taken in the year 571 by Cutwulph, brother of Ceawlin, King of the West Saxons; and had a fortress or castle of some importance.

Aylesbury was a major market town in Anglo-Saxon times, the burial place of Saint Osgyth, whose shrine attracted pilgrims.

Aylesbury was declared the new county town of Buckinghamshire in 1529 by King Henry VIII. The town played a large part in the English Civil War when it became a stronghold for the Parliamentarian forces

The tech giant has added more details and better colours to the apps.

Both the applications will feature the data captured by Landsat 8 satellite, which was launched in 2013.

The film takes the form of a discussion between a professor, his housemaid, the local dustman and a local volunteer worker. They discuss how to save and salvage rubbish and what the recycled rubbish is used for. They also talk about the best way to package and prepare the waste for collection.
