Andy's National Trust Travel Blogs: Trelissick, Cornwall, house and gardens
There are 500+ places of interest in the UK under the National Trust banner and I will be attempting to visit as many as I can, reporting as I do all the important stuff relative to accessibility.
The garden has been in the ownership of the National Trust since 1955 when it was donated by Ida Copeland following the death of her son Geoffrey. A stained glass memorial bearing the Copeland Crest remains to this effect in Feock parish church. The house and garden had formerly been owned and developed by the Daniell family, which had made its fortune in the 18th Century Cornish copper mining industry.
Many of the species that flourish in the mild Cornish air, including the rhododendrons and azaleas which are now such a feature of the garden, were planted by the Copelands including hydrangeas, camellias and flowering cherries, and exotics such as the ginkgo and various species of palm. They also ensured that the blossoms they nurtured had a wider, if unknowing audience. Mr Ronald Copeland was chairman and later managing director of his family's business, the Spode china factory, and flowers grown at Trelissick were used as models for those painted on ware produced at the works.
The Copeland family crest, a horse's head, now decorates the weathervane on the turret of the stable block, making a pair with the Gilbert squirrels on the Victorian Gothic water tower, an echo of the family who lived here in the second half of the 19th century (their ancestor, Sir Humphrey Gilbert, was lost at sea in his tiny ship Squirrel after discovering Newfoundland).
The garden is noted for its rare shrubs. It offers a large park, woodland walks, views over the estuary of the River Fal and Falmouth.

Trelissick Garden - The Water Tower National Trust property walk through
Walk through of the National Trust property ' The Water Tower' at Trelissick Garden Nr Truro. This property is available to rent through their website. It is a stunning and unique property with one room on each floor. The property also has a 'Bat Cam' situated in the roof. Whilst we stayed here we saw lots of long eared bats hanging upside down and flying around. Suitable for those that can handle a long stair flight to the kitchen on the top floor!

Tolverne, Cornwall
Tolverne is a small hamlet on the side of the River Fal near Feock in Cornwall. It is most well known for being the home of the King Harry Ferry, a car ferry which crosses the River Fal to the Roseland and saves drivers a long drive through Truro and Tregony.
The hamlet is surrounded on both sides by Trelissick (owned by the National Trust) and the whole hamlet is on the B3289, a road which starts at Playing Place and ends at St Just-In-Roseland.
Feock parish church
This video is of the inside of St Feock's church, Feock, near Truro, Cornwall, UK. The church is a very nice church quite close to the beach and the creek. The bell tower is not joined on to the church (a bit like at Gwennap or more famously at Gunwalloe). Inside the church is one of the nicest churches in Cornwall. The door can be quite hard to open.

King Harry Ferry - Truro & Falmouth to St Mawes & The Roseland Peninsula
The crossing of the River Fal on The King Harry Ferry has been voted one of the ten most scenic ferry trips in the world by The Independent, alongside the Staten Island Ferry in New York and the Star Ferry in Hong Kong. The Feock terminal of the ferry is adjacent to the renowned Trelissick Gardens.
Established in 1888, it is an iconic part of Cornwall’s history. The King Harry Ferry connects St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula with Truro and Falmouth by avoiding the alternative 27 mile route through Truro & Tresillian.
Each year the King Harry Ferry saves 5 million car miles, 1.7 million kg of CO2 and ¾ of a million litres of fuel. It carries 300,000 cars every single year.
A toll is charged for vehicular use of the ferry; a charitable donation is invited from pedestrians. Local people purchase concession tickets to keep the price low. If the ferry is not operating, the alternative is a 26-mile (42 km) detour via the city of Truro.
The King Harry Ferry is a vehicular chain ferry which crosses the Carrick Roads reach of the estuary of the River Fal in Cornwall, England, UK. The ferry is owned and operated by the King Harry Steam Ferry Company Ltd. The current ferry boat, named No. 7, was built in 2006 and can carry up to 34 cars.

Babel Brook
Filmed in Feock, Cornwall, Near Trelissick on the edge of Delabole Wood whilst standing in the rivulet which feeds the River Fal via Lamouth Creek. This short stretch of water revealed its language both audibly and literally on its surface. Interesting slow motion effect with sound and image.

King Harry Ferry Chains
Filmed onboard the King Harry Ferry using a handheld Canon HV30 HD video and recorded onto Canon Professional tape. The King Harry Ferry Bridge is a vehicular chain ferry which crosses the Carrick Roads reach of the estuary of the River Fal in the English county of Cornwall. The ferry crosses between the parishes of Feock and Philleigh, roughly half way between the city of Truro, the lowest bridging point on the estuary, and the town of Falmouth, at the estuary's mouth. The ferry is owned and operated by the King Harry Steam Ferry Company Ltd. It moves in the water by pulling itself along on sunken chains. It is these chains which are the subject and focus of this short film. Abstract and painterly images are revealed using reduced film speed and close up shots. The ferry's engine and background noise provide the soundtrack. This film is the inspiration for a body of work which incorporates: Still Photography, Mixed Media Painting and Collage.
