Crocodile man
I stayed in a WOODEN BEACH HUT in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka (eventually). ????????
A wooden hut right next to the sea, or a Wooden Beachfront Cabana, as they called it.
It wasn't easy to get. After a long and uncomfortable bus ride with many army checkpoints I eventually reached Trincomalee over 6 hours after leaving Batticaloa.
I decided not to deal with the tuk-tuk drivers waiting at the bus station and instead took a walk up to Fort Frederic which seems to be turned into some army base, with wild deer and a Hindu temple.
From there, I bargained hard with the tuk tuk drivers. The only way a tourist can get a fair price from them. Unfortunately it broke down half way there and the driver insisted I wait for his friend to pick me up rather than take another tuk tuk.
Eventually at Al Fresco Hotel, they gave my beach hut to somebody else and I had to stay in a crappy hotel room for the night. It was only the next day that my mission was complete and I finally got my beachfront cabana.

Return to Colombo from Bolgoda Lake in Sri Lanka.
This is the return trip to the capital from my cousin Ali's house by the lake. The lake is reputedly crocodile infested and these crocs, though not as large and fierce as their saltwater cousins, are man-killers. The sea is nearby and this is the late afternoon trip back to Colombo where the only crocodiles live in the zoo. By the way, this is Sunday afternoon.

Saltwater Crocodile
The saltwater crocodile is a crocodilian native to saltwater habitats and brackish wetlands from India's east coast across Southeast Asia and the Sundaic region to northern Australia and Micronesia.
Saltwater crocodiles are the largest living reptiles. Adult males can reach 6-7 m and weigh between 2.205–2.370 lb. Females are much smaller and do not generally exceed 3 m. The head is quite large and features a pair of ridges that run from the eyes along the center of the snout.
Saltwater crocodiles use thermoregulation to maintain body temperatures. They cool themselves in water and warm themselves in the sun.
Saltwater crocodiles is most commonly found on the coasts of northern Australia, and on the islands of New Guinea and Indonesia. It ranges as far west as Sri Lanka and eastern India, along the shorelines and river mouths of southeast Asia to central Vietnam, around Borneo and into the Philippines and in Palau, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. Saltwater crocodiles are strong swimmers and are sometimes found in open water very far from land.
The saltwater crocodile is a large and opportunistic hypercarnivorous apex predator. It ambushes most of its prey and then drowns or swallows it whole. It is capable of prevailing over almost any animal that enters its territory, including other apex predators such as sharks, varieties of freshwater and saltwater fish including pelagic species, invertebrates such as crustaceans, various reptiles, birds and mammals, including humans.
Sri Lanka Navy initiates Agri-revival in Toppur in Eastern Province 16/10/2008
Sri Lanka Navy initiates Agri-revival in Toppur in Eastern Province
Sri Lanka Navy has taken measures to initiate an agri-revival in Toppur, an area located 40 Kilometers South-east of Trincomalee in the Eastern Province, for the betterment of the farmer community in the area.
Under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Toppur villagers have now begun to savour the freedom of peace and harmony which had been denied to them by the ruthless LTTE, whose presence has now been eliminated from the area by the naval troops deployed for the civilian protection.
The Navy has commenced this act of benevolence with the sole intention of enhancing the wellbeing of the farmers who had been severely battered by the merciless LTTE. It is expected that there will be a great revival in the agriculture in the area and a great reawaking in the lives of the people when the entire irrigation network, once abandoned due to the LTTE terror, is reconstructed and renovated.
Thousands of acres of paddy fields, which were hitherto left unused and neglected as the irrigation network had been severely damaged due to the LTTE activities in the area, will be cultivated under the agri-revival initiated by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Toppur farmers will be benefitted once all paddy fields are cultivated with the improved irrigation network. The bountiful harvests, then undoubtedly, usher in an era of prosperity and happiness for all communities living in Toppur.
This agri-revival initiative is another community service of the Sri Lanka Navy, which is always concerned about the betterment of innocent people, whose pride and prosperity has been destroyed by the LTTE. All naval personnel are committed to work relentlessly for the uplift of all citizens of the motherland, irrespective of their ethnicity, religion and language.

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA - Sri Lankan food is known for crabs, and you’ll find some of the best mud crabs you’ll ever try in Sri Lanka. One of the top places to eat Sri Lankan crab curry is The Station, a seafood restaurant and bar along the ocean in Colombo. During out best of Sri Lankan food tour ( this was the first meal we had, and it was outstanding.
I met up with Uchith ( Nick ( and Lakki ( who showed me the restaurant and took me to the kitchen to watch as they made their entire family recipe for Sri Lankan crab curry, using huge 1.5 kg. Sri Lankan mud crabs. It was fascinating and a learning experiences to watch all the different steps and the complicated ingredients used in their recipe.
As I kept watching the Sri Lankan crab curry being made, I could hardly contain my excitement or mouth juices!
Our entire group came, and they started bringing out more dishes - not just the Sri Lankan crab curry, but river prawns fried in black pepper, and spiny lobster hollowed out and re-added to its shell. It was stunningly good. Along with Sri Lankan food, The Station also has a few of their own unique, Sri Lankan fusion seafood dishes, including favorites like hot butter squid.
Sri Lankan crab curry - we had one pan of their original Sri Lankan family recipe crab curry, and one pan of their extra spicy crab curry. Both were outstanding, but I loved the original for the spice blend and balance and how all the juices soaked up into the crab, it was outstanding.
The Sri Lankan food and crab curry was outstanding, the people, our entire group, and the owners of The Station are incredible people as well. Thank you to The Station, Nick, Uchitch and Lakki.

Giant Crocodile in Sri Lanka Rescued and Released || ViralHog
Occurred on November 7, 2016 / Matara, Sri Lanka
The Wildlife Department found the largest crocodile in Weeraduwa, Matara this morning. The croc is believed to weigh close to a ton and 17 feet long. It was found stuck in a canal leading off the Nilawala River. The crocodile had attempted to enter the canal in search of food as the water levels in the river had risen. The giant reptile was released back into the river by Wild life officials at Mirissa and Kalawetiya.
