TRINIDAD, CUBA WALKING TOUR - nightlife, bars, restaurants & Cuban music
How do we afford to travel so often? We're lucky enough to stay for almost free in every city, using
A virtual walk through Trinidad's main tourist spots at Christmas time, experiencing classic, vintage American cars and nightlife along the way.
Against the setting sun, we begin our walk at Plaza Carillo. Here you can find the Iberostar Gran Hotel, the Ayuntamiento (city council) and the very important Etecsa office where you can buy WiFi cards.
From here we make a slow way up to the Plaza Mayor, passing bars, cafes, restaurants and handicraft stores.
At the Plaza we find the grand Trinidad Terraces - site for many live performances, great place for people watching and a handy WiFi spot - (though, like many of Cuba's public WiFi spots, you might find it hard to connect.) We head up Calle Desengano and are surrounded by more bars and restaurants, (for when you're done with the old cars and tourism). There's the amazing looking Paladar Museo, the Casa de la Música, and past the open air market on Calle Alameda is Casa de la Trova Trinidad.

Trinidad Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Trinidad.
Located to the south of the Caribbean island of Cuba, Trinidad was founded by the Spaniard, Velazquez and in the 18th century the city experienced great wealth and recognition through the cultivation of sugar cane. The exclusive palaces and villas of the sugar barons still leave their mark on the city with tall wooden gates, barred windows and original roof tiles that characterise the style of bygone days. The Palacio Padron is located on the Plaza Mayor, the centre of the city. A few years ago the palace was lovingly restored in painstaking detail and transformed into an archaeological museum. Around the main square the most beautiful palaces stand in rows and are an impressive indicator of the colonial lifestyle enjoyed by the former sugar aristocracy. The slave trade and the cultivation of sugar cane made the island’s inhabitants incredibly wealthy and Trinidad became the most important cultural and trade centre in the whole of Cuba. The former palace of the Cantero sugar barons now houses the Museo De Historia, an impressive building in the Calle Bolivar in which visitors can marvel at old timepieces, porcelain, furniture and valuable crystal chandeliers. The seven storey Torre De Iznaga rises menacingly into the sky, the bells of which once summoned the plantation slaves to work while watchmen surveyed the valley from above because of the fears of the plantation owners who believed that one day the slaves would rebel against them. Splendid exotic beauty in a land situated between sun and socialism, sugar and cigars, rumba and revolution. In Trinidad it is as though everything is in a state of suspended animation waiting to be kissed awake.

Trinidad, Cuba in 4K (Ultra HD)
Trinidad was founded in 1514 as the third Spanish settlement in Cuba. It is UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, because of its outstanding and well preserved colonial architecture.
According to UNESCO: Trinidad is an outstanding example of a colonial city; it has maintained its historic core, featuring the highest percentage of surviving antique buildings and public squares and bringing together architectural, historic and cultural elements of great value.

Most Beautiful Beach in Cuba? (Trinidad)
Where is the best beach in Cuba? We discover Playa Maria Aguilar, just outside of Trinidad which is one of the nicest beaches I've ever seen (and way less crowded than Varadero or Playa Ancon). This beach is a little bit off the beaten path and a real escape. This is the third of my four American Traveling in Cuba vlogs. Leave any questions about Cuba below and I'll try my best to answer them.

Cuba Trinidad Tourist Train
Taken in January 2009 Alco 1552 worked its first Trinidad Tourist Train to Manaca Iznaga in the Valle de los Ingenios. 1552 had been overhauled and an engineer traveled with us. The crew were welcoming and I was encouraged to join them on the footplate. The scenes show 1552 at Trinidad, crossing a high viaduct, taking water from the river and leaving Iznaga. Absolutely wonderful!

Trinidad de Cuba - Playa Ancon
Escape the Heat - Go to the Beach
Even in March Cuba can be quite hot and when you are visiting Trinidad de Cuba is can a relief to head for the beach. The beach in this case is Playa Ancon located about 12 km to the south of Trinidad.
While the temperatures are tempered by a breeze off the the Caribbean Sea it is still incredibly hot but at least you can go swimming in crystal clear waters. The beach is excellent with white fine sable sand and lots of room as at this time there are not that many bathers or vacationers. Playa Ancon is not on the main tourist path for Cuban beach vacations as that distinction goes to the Varadaro area on the north coast of Cuba 150 km east of Havana.
On the other hand if you want to escape the crowds and are comfortable with only one major resort hotel - the Hotel Ancon - then Playa Ancon would be your destination. Enough said ....have a look.

Photography in Trinidad, Cuba
Be sure to check out for more of my photography from Cuba and around the world.
I visited Trinidad, Cuba as my second location on my own little jaunt around Cuba. From the photos I saw beforehand, I knew that Trinidad was going to be a great place for photography. It's a cool little town with loads of friendly people and lots of scenes to shoot. I spent a total of 3 days in Trinidad shooting the cathedral, plaza, some of the classic cobble-stone streets, and doing some portrait photography as well. All in all, it was one of my favourite places in Cuba for photography, and I'd love to get back again at some point and explore a little bit more of Trinidad and the area.

Cuba-Trinidad
In 2004, the municipality of Trinidad had a population of 73,466
The municipality is divided into the barrios of Primero, Segundo, Tercero, Aguacate, Cabagán, Caracusey, Casilda, Guaniquical, Río de Ay, San Francisco, San Pedro and Táyaba.
Trinidad is a town in the province of Sancti Spíritus, central Cuba. Together with the nearby Valle de los Ingenios, it has been one of UNESCOs World Heritage sites since 1988.
Trinidad was founded on December 23, 1514 by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar under the name Villa De la Santísima Trinidad. Francisco Iznaga, a rich Basque landowner in the southern portion of Cuba during the first 30 years of the colonization of Cuba, was elected Mayor of Bayamo in 1540. Iznaga was the originator of a powerful lineage that finally settled in Trinidad where the Torre Iznaga is. His descendents fought for the Independence of Cuba and the Annexation to the US from 1820 to 1900. It is one of the best preserved cities in the Caribbean from the time when the sugar trade was the main industry in the region.
Nowadays, Trinidad's main industry is tobacco processing. The older parts of town are well preserved as the Cuban tourism industry sees benefit from tour groups. In contrast, some parts of town outside the non-tourist areas are very run down and in disrepair, especially in the centre.
Tourism officials like to say Trinidad is a museum in itself. Those visiting the 500-year-old city will find Spanish colonial architecture, underscoring a colonial ambiance that marks the tiny city one of the country's greatest attractions. Only a few square blocks in size, historic Trinidad is famous for its lovely, cobblestone streets, pastel coloured houses with elaborate wrought-iron grills, as well as beautiful palaces and plazas. The city can be toured in a few hours, by foot or by horse-drawn carriage. The city is located near both the Escambray Mountains and the Caribbean coast.
One of the area's notable sights is the Valley of the Sugar Mills, which has been declared a World Heritage Site. The valley has around 70 long-standing sugar mills which serves as a reminder of the importance of sugar to the Cuban economy over the centuries. It has la Torre Iznaga, a 45 meter tower built by Alejo Iznaga Borrell in 1816. Twenty km from the city is Topes de Collantes, one of Cuba's premier ecotourism centres. Another attraction is the Casilda Bay, which attracts both snorkelers and divers. A nearby islet has pristine beaches.
Ancon Beach is a white sand beach which was one of the first new resorts to be developed in Cuba following the 1959 revolution. Along the Ancon Peninsula are three hotels: Hotel Costa Sur (South Coast Hotel), Hotel Ancon and Brisas Trinidad del Mar (opened in 2002)
There are several world class casas de musica, and every night next to the church in plaza major is one of Cuba's busiest dance floors. There are also excellent discothèques, one in a church ruins the other in a huge cave once used as a war time hospital.
Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba - virtual tour
Trinidad is a town in the province of Sancti Spíritus, central Cuba. Together with the nearby Valle de los Ingenios, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. The city is located on the Caribbean coast near the Escambray Mountains.
Trinidad was founded on December 23, 1514 by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar under the name Villa de la Santísima Trinidad.
Hernán Cortés recruited men for his expedition from Juan de Grijalva's home in Trinidads, and Sancti Spíritus, at the start of his 1518 expedition. This included Pedro de Alvarado and his five brothers. After ten days, Cortes sailed, the alcayde Francisco Verdugo failing to prevent Cortes from leaving, despite orders from Diego Velázquez.
Francisco Iznaga,[6] a Basque landowner in the southern portion of Cuba during the first 30 years of the colonization of Cuba, was elected Mayor of Bayamo in 1540.
