Trinity Alps Wilderness - Canyon Creek Alpine Lakes Hike
Canyon Creek is one of the premier destinations of the Trinity Alps. The soaring, jagged granite peaks, icy cold lakes, meadows, old growth forests and fantastic waterfalls all combine to form a quintessential mountain wilderness. It comes as no surprise then, that this is the most popular trail in the Trinity Alps.
The second largest wilderness area in California, the Trinity Alps Wilderness nearly doubled in size by the 1984 California Wilderness Act. In that same year, it was added to the National Wilderness Preservation System. It currently has over 600 miles of trails and embraces over 500,000 acres of land.

Trinity Lake, California
Trinity Lake stop off looking for campground -
Trinity Lake, previously called Clair Engle Lake, is an artificial lake on the Trinity River formed by the Trinity Dam and located in Trinity County, California, United States. The dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The lake's capacity is 2,447,650 acre feet (3,019,130 dam), making it one of the largest reservoirs in California. The lake's surface is at 2,370 ft (720 m) above MSL. Trinity Lake captures and stores water for the Central Valley Project, which provides the Central Valley with water for irrigation and produces hydroelectric power. This lake is known for its many small arms, glassy inlets, and great water-skiing conditions.
After the death in office of California United States Senator Clair Engle in 1964, the lake was renamed after him; however, the name change never received wide popularity, especially with locals, and the name was eventually returned to its frequently known original name.
The lake is serviced by three marinas: Trinity Alps Marina located on the southern end in view of the Dam; Cedar Stock marina on the Stuart Fork arm on the west end of the lake; and Trinity Center marina at the northern end of the main arm of the lake. Most of the marinas rent houseboats to vacationers year round. Most marinas on the lake are now owned and operated by Forever Resorts, with the only exception being the Trinity Alps Marina.[

The Ghost Town of Summit City, Alpine County, California
The mining town of Summit City once was the second largest voting center in the Alpine area. The town was located about four miles southwest of Hope Valley and about two and one-half miles northwest of Upper Blue Lake on the headwaters of the Mokelumne River. After the discovery of a rich mining claim on the south side of the mountain, the out-croppings of the ledge were followed over the ridge into Summit City Canyon. The usual influx of locators and claim jumpers followed. Dwellings and commercial structures were rapidly erected: and excerpts from a letter to the Daily Alta Californian of June 15, 1864, read as follows: We have in Summit City about 600 inhabitants and the town is building up as fast as lumber can be obtained, to furnish which two mills are now in process of erection. The usual amount of stores, blacksmith shops, bakeries, saloons etc. are in full blast and a church and school will follow in due time. In the matter of politics we are about a stand off between Union men and rebels. Preaching last year by the Rev. Mr. Gill was held in a large tent. We hope to give him better accommodations this year. A large sawmill is especially wanted. The town is prettily laid out on either side of a stream of pure cold water; the houses are small, but neat, with thriving gardens in front, and a better style of architecture will follow the establishment of a sawmill capable of supplying our wants.

There's lots to see and do, including the wonderful Quilt Show and the Homestead Exhibit, where living history volunteers demonstrate how things were done during the Gold Rush. Huell even eats some fried green tomatoes and stops by the saloon for an old-fashioned root beer float and of course, we get to see some amazing mules and donkeys compete in some surprising events. trinitycountyfair.org
