Russia - Orthodox Church unveil Tsar monument
T/I: 10:55:39
A new monument to commemorate Russia's last Tsar, Nicholas II was unveiled on Tuesday (28/7) in the town of Podolsk, 40km outside of Moscow. The ceremony was conducted by members of the Orthodox church who chose the occasion to bestow sainthood upon the monarch although officially the church does not recognise Tsar Nicholas and his family as saints. A priest from the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, formed by emigres after the Russian revolution, was called in to conduct the ceremony. The event took place at the Church of Saint Tsar Nicholas the Martyr and was led by cossack chief, or ataman, Vladimir Melnikov of the Podolsk region.
