Sinead O'Connor - This is to mother you - Triskel Christchurch Cork
Sinead O'Connor performs live in the Triskel Christchurch Cork, Ireland. at a fundraising event for MAD PRIDE IRELAND 2012. This is to Mother you was dedicated to Mad Pride.
Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor is an Irish singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the late 1980s with her debut album The Lion and the Cobra. O'Connor achieved worldwide success in 1990 with a cover of Prince's song Nothing Compares 2 U.
The star, who has spoken openly about her own mental health issues, has waived her fee and agreed to perform in Triskel Christchurch on Oct 19 2012 to help raise funds for the mental health lobby group.
The head of Mad Pride Ireland, David McCarthy, said he is delighted she agreed to the gig.
I think she liked our approach to normalising attitudes to madness.
We aren't afraid to speak out with an alternative voice and criticise, he said.
Mad Pride Ireland was founded by his late father, John, who died last January. John strove to promote understanding of the issues surrounding mental health, which he hoped would lead to the normalisation of madness as just another health issue.
His Mad Pride Day family-fun events, which began in Cork, now takes place in several centres around the country.
David said: We show the world that madness is an everyday occurrence that affects us all and can be dealt with openly, lovingly and without fear.
Have we opened the national debate on mental health? We sure have. We are deadly serious in our intent, while so open in our approach.
Funds raised by O'Connor's gig will help Mad Pride Ireland develop several projects, including its DIY Mental Health pilot project. It will run, in conjunction with the HSE, in Beara and an as yet to be identified city location.
It hopes to harness community groups to identify mental health issues in their locality, and develop local responses.
O'Connor was supported by the Ger Wolfe Trio and Cork-based singer songwriter Niamh Brady.
Filmed on location by SUPEREGO.ie, live at Triskel Christchurch, Oct 2012.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:
The opening night, of the long running Festival was on Thursday September 13th 1979 at Douglas GAA Club; (there was no Festival in 1988) Put together from year to year purely on a voluntary basis by a dedicated group of enthusiasts, aided by major sponsorship, and a combination of various sponsors and supporters, including those who over the years contribute financially to the cost of staging the festival, Cork City Council, the Arts Council, Fáilte Ireland, Carling, Beamish Irish Stout and CIT, and the Evening Echo etc.
It's endurance is a tribute to the energy and labour of it's workers. it is appropriate to acknowledge the voluntary organising committee, and also the many volunteer workers who take charge of doors, organise artist accommodation, look after publicity, liaise with artists, and numerous other things involved in making such an event possible year on year. Particular recognition for Jim Walsh, Chairman and someone who has been a vital cog in Festival organisation since that very first year, long-serving Festival Director William Hammy Hammond, and also Timmy the Brit McCarthy, the inspirational figure behind the Festival's inception, as well as it's original Director/Secretary.

It is named after a street (Irish: Barr na Sráide, meaning top of the street) in Cahersiveen in County Kerry, Ireland. The poem recalls the life of the author's boyhood friends starting from when they were young children through to the Black and Tan period, and up to Civil War. The poem speaks of the Irish tradition of hunting for the wran (wren), a small bird, on St. Stephen's Day, 26 December.

Songs from the Beautiful City is an evocative celebration of the history of Cork through beautifully crafted narrative songs and ballads performed by Cork’s very own Bard, Jimmy Crowley.
Accompanying archive images and footage of Cork will complement this unique show of story and song. Jimmy has compiled a powerful cache of urban ballads depicting life as lived by the working people, their pastimes, labour, hardship and loves, a true history of the people of Cork from the turn of the 20th century.
Keen to spread the rich song tradition of his native city, Jimmy will sing his ode to Cork, ‘Beautiful City’, his anthem to sporting heroes and champions, ‘The Boys of Fairhill’ and ‘The Ballad of Christy Ring’, poignant love songs ‘I Know My Love’ and his World War 1 parody ‘Salonika’ along with a good sprinkling of the humorous with ‘Johnny Jump Up’.
Sit back and be immersed in this unique story of Cork told through nostalgic archive photos and footage brought to life by the mesmerising storytelling of the legendary balladeer in his own inimitable style, filled with quirky observations and quaint turn of phrase. Jimmy’s unique singing style, accompanied by his mastery on bouzouki and guitar, together with archive images make his city come alive. A show to be experienced.

32nd Cork Folk Festival - 29th September to 3rd October 2011, Cork, Ireland.
T with the Maggies at this performance included : Moya Brennan (Clannad), Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill (Bothy Band), Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill (Skara Brae), Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (Altan) Jim Higgins (various - percussion) and Mannus Lunny (Capercaillie - guitar, bouzouki)
T with the Maggies' debut album 'T with the Maggies', was released in October 2010.
In May 2007, a remarkable gathering of traditional Irish musicians and singers came together at Vicar Street in Dublin to celebrate the life and music of Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, who, with Skara Brae and The Bothy Band, had been a pioneering force in Irish music.Among the many artists and groups coming together that evening was an evocative performance by four of Ireland's finest female singers. Tríona and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill (Míchaél's two sisters, concert organisers and co-members of Skara Brae and The Bothy Band) were joined by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan and Moya Brennan of Clannad. And so was born one of the most inspirational and heartening collaborations in traditional Irish music.
Tríona, Maighread, Mairéad and Moya, T with the Maggies, all come from the same corner of County Donegal (with Gaelic as their first language) and all have illustrious career histories. Each individual brings a unique and varied interpretation of their musical heritage but the result is one of the finest ever amalgamations of Irish female voices.
A great programme of folk and traditional music. International gathering of iconic Folk Musicians.
