When considering where to travel in Croatia it's natural that Split features on the list - its coastal, central and home for a lot of boats and tours... oh and its obviously beautiful. What about Trogir? Ever heard of it?
Trogir is a UNESCO World Heritage site and small town thats a great alternative to Split. It's a lot more chilled than Split, a small island only and has a distinctive old town feel to it.
Trogir cathedral, Fortress Kamerlengo Castle and the old town are the highlights - but the town has a small town feel with a big time charm. If you're considering where to go after Split or want some where to escape the pace for a little while definitely add Trogir to your list.

Trogir (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Trogir in Croatia.
The picturesque old town of Trogir in Croatia is situated on a small island which is connected to the mainland by a bridge and protected by walls and a fortress. In 380 B.C. Greeks from Issa settled there and founded the fortified city of Tragyrion. It was only under Croatian rule that the island fortress regained its former importance when, in 1107, it became a diocesan city and received municipal rights by King Koloman. At the south-western end of the island is the imposing Kamerlengo Fortress, former residence of the Venetian governor and his militia. High walls connect various towers from which there is a good view of the sea. Church steeples rise above the rooftops.as though to highlight the importance of religion during Venetian rule. Several coastal towns entered into agreements with Venice whose mighty fleet offered protection against pirate raids. In 1997 the entire old town was designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site, a closely packed-together collection of residential buildings, churches, narrow streets and courtyards.Repeated hostilities of the Ottomans finally ended the heyday of this fine city but its former splendour has been well preserved and Trogir now serves as a priceless glance back into the Middle Ages.

Trogir (Latin: Tragurium; Italian: Traù; Ancient Greek: Τραγύριον, Tragyrion or Τραγούριον, Tragourion) is a historic town and harbour on the Adriatic coast in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia, with a population of 10,818 (2011) and a total municipal population of 13,260 (2011). The historic city of Trogir is situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the island of Čiovo. It lies 27 kilometres (17 miles) west of the city of Split.
Since 1997, the historic centre of Trogir has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites for its Venetian architecture.
In the 3rd century BC, Tragurion was founded by Greek colonists[5] from the island of Vis, and it developed into a major port until the Roman period. The name comes from the Greek tragos (male goat). The name might also derive from ilirian word Tregur (Three Stones). Similarly, the name of the neighbouring island of Bua comes from the Greek voua (herd of cattle). The sudden prosperity of Salona deprived Trogir of its importance. During the migration of Croats the citizens of the destroyed Salona escaped to Trogir. Initially the Roman Tragurium was one of the Dalmatian City-States. From the 9th century on, Trogir paid tribute to Croatian rulers and to the Byzantine empire. The diocese of Trogir was established in the 11th century (abolished in 1828; it is now part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Split-Makarska and has temporarily been a Latin titular bishopric) and in 1107 it was chartered by the Hungarian-Croatian king Coloman, gaining thus its autonomy as a town.
In the year 1000 the Republic of Venice received submission from the Tragurium inhabitants and the city started since then to have commerce with the Italian peninsula enjoying cultural and economic improvements.
In 1123 Trogir was conquered and almost completely demolished by the Saracens. However, Trogir recovered in a short period to experience powerful economic prosperity in the 12th and the 13th centuries, with some autonomy under Venetian leadership. In 1242 King Béla IV of Hungary found refuge there as he fled the Mongols. In the 13th and the 14th centuries, members of the Šubić family were most frequently elected dukes by the citizens of Trogir; Mladen III (1348), according to the inscription on the sepulchral slab in the Cathedral of Trogir called the shield of the Croats, was one of the most prominent Šubićs. In Dalmatian, the city was known as Tragur.
After the War of Chioggia between Genoa and Venice, on 14 March 1381 Chioggia concluded an alliance with Zadar and Trogir against Venice, and finally Chioggia became better protected by Venice in 1412, because Šibenik then became the seat of the main customs office and the seat of the salt consumers office with a monopoly on the salt trade in Chioggia and on the whole Adriatic Sea.
In 1420 the period of a long-term Venetian rule began and lasted nearly four centuries, when Trau (as the city was called by the Venetians) was one of the best cities in the Balkans with a rich economy and plenty of Renaissance works of art and architecture. In about 1650, a manuscript of the ancient Roman author Petronius' Satyricon was discovered in Trogir containing the 'Cena Trimalchionis' ('Dinner of Trimalchio') the longest surviving portion of the Satyricon, a major discovery for Roman literature.

Maze Like Streets in Trogir -Our Last Day in Croatia | Travel Vlog
Subscribe to my channel:
We spend out last day in Croatia in the historic city of Trogir. It's situated on a small island 27 kilometres (17 miles) west of Split.
It was founded by Greek Colonists in the 3rd century BC.
They named the city Tragos which in Greek means male goat, so probably this place was overrun by goats back then:)
Trogir is famous for it’s maze like streets and harbour.. Being so close to Split we found that prices here were a bit higher than in Zadar, maybe 10-20% higher.
Trogir was ruled by Venice for almost 400 years and has one of the highest concentrations of Romanesque and renaissance architecture in central europe, most of which was build during that time.
