Hofsós - IJsland / Iceland 08-08-2011
Hofsós is one of the oldest trading ports in northern Iceland dating back to the 16th century.
Hofsós, with a population of about 200 individuals, is located 37 km east from Sauðárkrókur.
The economy has been based mainly on the fishing industry as well as services to the neighboring farms. This was largely due to its natural harbor. In recent years Hofsós has built itself up as a tourist attraction and has The Icelandic Emigration Center (Vesturfarasetrið á Hofsósi), dedicated to the westward migration to North America of Icelanders that reached its peak at the turn of the 19th century. The Drangey Exhibition is in Pakkhús, the Hofsós warehouse built in 1777, during the time of the trading monopoly. Massacre hill farm (Mannskaðaholl) at the south end of Lake Höfðavatn, is named for the massacre of English marauders, which took place there in 1431.

8-day drive in Iceland
In 2009 we went on our first trip to Iceland, my personal reason being that I wanted to find out how (my) Icelandic horses came to be as they are now.
It turned out to be more than that, for me at least. Not a day goes by that I don't think of this wonderful - and too short - holiday to the youngest country on the planet.
This was filmed with a regular photocamera (didn't have HD yet at the time) with the very basic sights for tourists. We drove from Reykjavik around the Vatnajökull, saw smoke from the Eyjafjallajökull - which can be seen in this vid - up to Varmahlid and then back down to the capitol.
Took me at least a month to recover from these impressive 8 days, but I can't wait to go back again :D

Exploring Lake Myvatn Iceland!
Lake Myvatn is located about 100KM from Akureyri, Iceland. It is Iceland's fourth largest lake, and is a popular place to enjoy birdwatching and hiking. Historically Lake Myvatn has experience many volcanic episodes because it's near Krafla, a volcano in northern iceland. The lake is home to many birds, including ducks, and was created by basaltic lava eruptions more than 2,300 years ago. Lake Myvatn is a popular destination for tourists visiting Iceland.
Iceland - The Villa Escape
Driving through Iceland from Kolugljufur to Grabrok and Hraunfossar
Before we went to Glymur we had to travel a long way from Sauðárkrókur and after that to our final destination Reykjavik. During our final drive through Iceland we made some stops to enjoy the view.
Iceland DCE Part 6 - The long way home
The Pictures & Sites:
First my overview - I tried very hard to provide an experience of what I perceived as in the fashion of how Iceland is meant to be experienced. I did this by many means. How I took my photos, to the music choreography, to motions via panning and selected transitions. This collection of pictures tells the story, not particularly my best photos taken.
I found Icelanders and the land itself has a quietly told and proudly revered history. The land is young, raw and diverse. I brought my love of photography to its rugged and beautiful shores; I left with respect for the people and their country. I tried my best to capture some of ... what is Iceland.
Please remember that I took these photos under whatever conditions mother nature provided. Most were cloudy and many were in the rain. Not to mention we moved 11 out of 14 nights to a different hotel, and all the shots were taken on the move, in fact... I did not include any photos of Iceland's largest waterfall due to heavy rains that prevented any photos at all.
This video is my Directors Cut Edition where I spent much attention to timing and fine tuning how this video plays. It is contains a six (6) album menu. This is PART 6 - The long way home. Brief descriptions follow.
Album six (6) - The long way home. (approx. run time: 15:07 min., the Snaefellsnes Peninsula - far Southwest)
This album is a very well executed closing to this DVD, a drive of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
o Borgarnes - a quick drive through town and photos of children celebrating the Icelandic Independence.
o Godafoss (fall of the gods) - a rainy view of a colorful, powerful waterfall.
o Anastadastapi - a small fishing village that lies beneath the Snaefellsjokull glacier with strange coastal rock formations.
o Snaefellsjokull glacier - a drive up Snaefellsjokull Glacier Mountain (where in Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth is the subterranean route to the earth's center).
o HINDISVIK - the dedicated coastal farm of a famous naturalist where sea lions & seals can be seen.
o Hvitserkur - legend to be a troll turned to stone by the sun.
o Helgafell (holy mountain) - this place is mentioned in The Book
of Settlements and is considered highly sacred. It was believed
people entered this mountain upon their death.
o Stykkisholms (Stykkisholmur) - the principal, coastal town of
the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
o Songhellir (singing cave) - if one listens... it is rumored one can
hear singing (no comment).
o Fjoruhusid - a wonderful cafe near the shore with dramatic costal
cliffs.
o Londrangar - Christian pillar taller (75m) & Heathen pillar shorter
(the book I have saw fit to not mention his height - lol).
o Greenland - aerial views over Greenland @ 36K ft.
L'Austral Iceland Cruise Day 3: Touring The Snæfellsnes Peninsula
Sorry, but the next few videos are a little longer than usual. It was either make two of each or one longer. Feel free to speed through! Off the L'Austral by 8:30a in Grundarfjordur, there were three stops planned today: Church, Bardur the Troll (and cliffs, etc.) and the black stone beach of Djupalonssandur.
Note: Did you know that Iceland has only two jails? One in Reykjavik and the other in Grundarfjordur. The one in Reykjavik has 86 cells, all full with a waiting list!
