Troll Tongue - Trolltunga Odda Norway
The Lang Boys walking out onto Trolltunga (the Troll Tongue in Odda Norway). A first peron's view posted with respect and condolences to the Australian that died on the same rock in 2015. RIP. Apologies for the swearing in the clip, as you'll see it was the only way to express the moment.

The hike from Odda to Trolltunga.
Hiking date: 02/09/2018
Elevation: 1,100 m
Distance: 28 km
Duration: 12 h (Waiting time included)
Translation: Troll tongue (Norwegian)
Description of VisitNorway (
Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is situated about 1100 meters above sea level, hovering 700 metres above lake Ringedalsvatnet. The view is breathtaking. The hike starts in Skjeggedal and goes through the high mountains, takes 10-12 hours (27,5 km in total to Trolltunga and return) and the ascent is about 1000 meters. IT IS A LONG AND DEMANDING HIKE. The trail is marked from the parking lot in Skjeggedal to Trolltunga. Along the trail there are signs showing the distance left to Trolltunga. CONSIDER CAREFULLY WHETHER YOU ARE IN GOOD ENOUGH SHAPE AND HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT BEFORE SETTING OUT. There is partly mobile phone coverage (Telenor) along the route. The hike is usually possible to do from mid-June, depending on when the snow melts in the mountains. Normally one can hike to Trolltunga until mid-September. WARNING - DO NOT TRY TO HIKE TO TROLLTUNGA IN WINTERTIME. From February you can join guided snowshoe hikes with Trolltunga Active. If you are inexperienced with challenging mountain hikes, you should join a guided tour of Trolltunga.
All nature based activities are at your own risk. You will need sturdy hiking boots, bring extra warm clothing, rainwear and be prepared for bad weather. Bring map and compass, plenty to eat and drink, a torch and a simple first aid kit. Weather in the high mountains can change quickly - check the latest weather forecast before going to Trolltunga. DO NOT hike to Trolltunga in strong wind, heavy rain or in foggy weather. It is always colder in the mountains than down by the fjord. Respect the nature.
Every year there are search and rescue operations for hikers in serious trouble. Prepare well and be a responsible and safe hiker. Start early in the morning. Norway is far north, meaning daylight is short from September and nights are very cold. We recommend starting at latest 8:00 in the morning.
If you want to stay overnight in the mountain area around Trolltunga you have to bring your own tent.
Depending on snow and weather conditions, the season will vary from year to year.
15 June-15 September Recommended season (average year).
16 September-28 October Recommmend with guide.
29 October-16 February NOT recommended, highly dangerous.
17 February-14 June Recommmend with guide (snowshoes).
Trolltunga shuttle: (15 June - 15 Sept.) Pick-up service from the major providers of accommodation in Odda.

Hiking to Trolltunga 4K
Hidden deep within Fjord Norway lies one of the country's most spectacular hiking destinations. A classic unspoilt natural wonder, Trolltunga (The Troll's Tongue) is a narrow rock that struts horizontally out from a cliff 700m above the Ringedalsvatnet lake below.

Mågelibanen/Trolltunga in Odda, Norway
Trolltunga is a piece of rock that stands horizontally out of the mountain above Skjeggedal in Odda, Norway. To get to Trolltunga (Norwegian for Troll's tongue) visitors needs to go to Odda, then to Skjeggedal via Tyssedal. Previously, a trolley car transported visitors the first 950 meters above sea level during the summer[1]. There are, however, both stairs and a path that guide visitors the first 950 meters, and from there marked hiking trails lead visitors the rest of the way.
Cabins in the area are owned by the Norwegian Trekking Association, where it is possible to spend the night. The area opens up to the rest of Hardangervidda, and can be a starting point for a longer hike to, for example, Hårteigen.

Trolltunga Norway
Trolltunga (Troll's tongue) is a piece of rock jutting horizontally out of a mountain about 700 metres (2,300 ft) above the north side of the lake Ringedalsvatnet in the municipality of Odda in Hordaland county, Norway. The cliff is located east of the Skjeggedal area, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of the village of Tyssedal and the Sørfjorden (a branch off of the main Hardanger Fjord). The name translated to English is The Troll's tongue.
