In my salty traveler's opinion, the Key West Express is the best way to get to Key West. It's better than being cramped on an airplane and dealing with airports. It's better than driving for 6+ hours and dealing with slow traffic down US 1.
Why not get to Fort Myers, jump aboard the Key West express, order a nice rum drink and watch the Gulf of Mexico go by. In 3.5 hours, you'll be in Key West and ready to explore the island's treasures.
If you have any questions about the Key West Express, let me know. I travel on it a few times a year and know both Ft. Myers beach and Key West well.
Have fun!
Cheers,
Ryan

A Salty Passion: Hi! We are Ryan (RumShopRyan) and Crystal (Castaway Crystal), we document, photograph, and film the best the Caribbean has to offer. Whether it’s stunning beaches, relaxing hotels, friendly restaurants, or soggy beach bars…we want to share it and inspire others to explore the islands.
MEET US!
Who Is RumShopRyan:
Howdy! I’m Ryan and I hail from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001. I didn’t know a single person and didn’t have a job. Risky I know, but the ocean was calling and I had to answer.
I’m a huge fan of Kansas City sports, so you’ll probably see a lot of Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals attire in my photos. Kansas City is a great town and I’m glad I’m from there, but the coastal life was calling. It’s kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.
I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle, and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music, or Caribbean culture, you’ll be able to find it on this site.
When in the Caribbean you’ll find a camera around my neck and note pad in my pocket. This is how I document the experiences in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.
Who is Castaway Crystal:
I was raised in Southwest Florida so it’s no surprise that I have a love for beaches, water and nature. As a child, most weekends were spent fishing in the warm gulf waters on the family boat. As an adult, most weekends are spent soaking up the sun on Ft. Myers Beach. Even though I have always loved the coastal life, I don’t think I fully appreciated it until I moved to Nashville, TN. I’m all about experiencing new things, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist I thought it would be amazing to massage some of Nashville’s biggest stars (a girl can dream right?). But I missed the sun and sand too much—and let’s not forget the rum runners! After a year I couldn’t take it anymore, this sun bunny moved back to her coast of somewhere beautiful.
I’ve always been passionate about photography and writing, but my passions never really had a purpose until I met Ryan. I couldn’t be happier being Ryan’s first mate and sharing my photos and stories with you. May they inspire you to go after your tropical dreams and wishes. Make a plan…Set a date…Just go!

We love the old Florida vibes of Cabbage Key! Here was part of our anniversary celebration. We rented a boat on Captiva Island and headed north to get salty!
Crystal got pissed when we arrived late and missed breakfast. Watch her reactions!

An average home in the western part of the United States would cost around $240,000. In the east, the average home costs around $231,000. It gets a little less expensive in the south and the Midwest, with homes there costing an average of $152,000 and $132,000 respectively.
The most expensive among all these is a $135 million house in Texas. In Los Angeles, the most expensive house is worth around $37 million. Certainly, a great disparity exists between the average person and the billionaires.
And there is an even higher class of billionaires. They are those with so much money that they can afford to buy an entire island. Take note that this is not the billionaire's home, but just a spot where they can jet off and hide when they want to get away from it all.
Here is a list of the most expensive island purchases, as well as some that are still for sale.

Private ISLAND - Holland America
20+ ACRES WITH 2 PRIVATE ISLANDS FOR SALE - NOVA SCOTIA CANADA
Paradise in South Western Nova Scotia Canada! Located in Yarmouth County, this 20 acre, triple plot consists of a mainland lot with quaint 2 bedroom cottage and a causeway providing road access the first and largest island. The north Island is called BOURQUE’S ISLAND, the south island is called ISLE ARNECH named after a Micmac Indian. This land is virtually untouched, high and dry, plenty of hardwood trees, and totally buildable. It’s the first time the 2 islands and the mainland can be sold as a parcel.
The islands are located in Belleville and on Eel Lake. The 5 mile lake connects to the ocean and can be accessed through the large brook by small to mid-sized watercraft. Eel lake is well known for its fishing, the obvious eels, seabass, gaspereau, and so much more. The lake is brackish and is now a harvesting mecca for wild oysters. There is an oyster farm two miles down the lake that sells oysters word-wide and they are considered some of the best in the world.
This is a prime location because you are ten minutes from the town of Yarmouth just off of the Lighthouse Route 3. Yarmouth has a small airport and “The Cat” ferry that makes a 5.5 hour run across the Bay of Fundy, from Portland Maine USA to Yarmouth during the tourist season, June 15th – October 1st. Drive your vehicle on, relax and enjoy the pleasant cruise and before you know it you’ll be here.
Yarmouth’s coastline is iconic and beautiful. It’s the natural beauty, rocky shores and the famous Cape Forchu Lightstation draws the tourists to this area and keeps them coming back. Yarmouth is a quaint town. It has a culture all its own and is known for its fishing villages and abundance of locally caught lobsters, scallops, oysters and all sorts of other indigenous seafood.
Summer fun is a must for the locals, from the Acadian Festivals, with lots of traditional and cultural Acadian food, to the Tuna Tournament & Festival where anglers from Canada and the United States participate in this historic tournament known for the legendary Giant Bluefin Tuna. There are certainly plenty of things to do in the summer time. Of course, if you just want to just relax and get away from it all, watch the sun rise and set on your very own, totally secluded island, you will be in the right place. Kind of like you own “On Golden Pond” setting to make sweet memories of your own.
This offering could make a great business opportunity such as a camp ground or ideal for your personal oasis and private estate. Link to the second island and have your own private compound. Paradise awaits you! $599,000 Canadian Dollars. Give us a call Odette Godin 727-365-0245

Overview:
1. Fort Myers - Fort Myers is on Florida’s west coast and averages 85 degree highs in the spring and 92 degree highs in the summer. It offers many activities in the water such as parasailing, kayaking, and fishing. On land, you can shop and walk the streets of Times Square or indulge in one of many Tiki bars. It is also home to seafood restaurants and energetic nightlife.
2. Key West - The most popular of the Florida Keys, Key West is the place to be. Averaging highs of 81 degrees in the spring and 89 degrees in the summer, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful beaches and scenery of the key. On land you can visit grand aquariums, interesting museums, or the elegant Dry Tortugas National Park. In the water, enjoy jet skiing or a catamaran ride through the beautiful gulf coasts. Snorkle in Coral reefs or kayak along the shores.
3. South Beach - 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, South Beach is a fantastic vacation spot. South Beach, just outside of Miami, is located along the Atlantic Ocean. Miami is home to superb nightlife and lots of places to shop. The area features several tropical parks that are amazing to explore. Rent Bikes and Segways and travel down boardwalks or sit yourself in the white sands of the beach. A superior place for deep sea fishing adventures and home to many highly rated hotels, restaurants, and bars. This area is a perfect merge of city and beach life.
4. Clearwater - Clearwater beach lives up to it’s name, with extremely clear waters and clean beaches. On land, it's very close to Universal Studios and Seaworld which are two amusing family attractions. The beaches and piers make for beautiful walks, and their are several affordable cruises in the area. Clearwater is home to fantastic wineries and many places to shop. There are several rentals available to maximize your experience.
5. St. Petersburg - This beach is home to several art museums such as the famous Dali Museum, and the area is home to vast creativity. The Sunken Gardens is another fantastic tourist attraction home to wildlife and tropical vegetation. St. Petersburg has several locations for classy nightlife and fun street walks. The beach itself has nice white sand and a calming Gulf of Mexico breeze.
6. Palm Beach - Palm Beach is another beach on this list located along the Atlantic. Palm Beach features great activities such as the Palm Beach Zoo and a Lion Country Safari. Nearby is a short drive to the exciting Rapids Water Park, along with several golf courses in the area. The area has a vast amount of high end restaurants available, along with standard water activities. With an average high of 81 degrees in the spring and 81 degrees in the summer, this beach is a great location to relax and enjoy the sun.
7. Naples - Naples, located along the Gulf of Mexico, is a very nature oriented area. There are several Reserves, Swamps, Parks, and Gardens available to visit. They have a great waterpark called Sun-N-Fun Lagoon, along with the Naples Pier aligned by vast boardwalk. There are several ecotours, fishing trips, and there is a Zoo. The beach itself has several stretches of beautiful ocean and trees on the coast.
8. Panama City- Panama City was put on this list due to the multiple activities and great affordability of the area. Although one of the more colder areas on the list, it still averages a high of 76 in the spring and 87 in the summer. Pier Park is one of the most popular places in the area, home to lots of fun activities and shopping. PCB has an extremely popular beach winery, along with a fair sized party crowd. Shell island is a great place to visit while you are here, along with a Ripley’s Believe it or not museum.
9. Daytona Beach- Daytona Beach is home to Daytona International Speedway, along with a pretty cool Museum of Arts and Sciences. It also has the Daytona Lagoon which is a great family friendly water park, along with an energetic boardwalk. Daytona is a thrilling environment and is home to nice beaches. However, the beach quality is lower than many of the beaches on this list.
10. Fort Lauderdale - Lastly, Fort Lauderdale makes the list of top 10 Florida beaches. Fort Lauderdale has very clean beaches and great stretches of beach boardwalks. It is home to many quality hotels and resorts. There isn’t as many land attractions compared to the other places. But the beautiful beach life makes up for this in my opinion.
I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Florida Beaches for vacation.
