Partying in Boqueron! The Friendly Pirates ep. 27 (Puerto Rico)
Welcome to Puerto Rico! I have been hearing about a town called Boqueron from fellow cruisers that is cool spot to go party for a weekend so it was finally time to go check it out! I met up with some friends from Luperon and we spent a night out getting smashed on all kinds of local drinks. Boqueron is a popular spot for all the students to come visit on weekends, with a near mardi gras feeling when it gets filled up. Unfortunately I was there during a slow weekend as most of the students were on vacation, but regardless a fun time was had!
I started to sail along the south coast of the island but was interrupted by a late season tropical storm that was threatening to impact the area. Luckily an awesome hiding spot was not far away and we make it into a bioluminescence bay to chill out for a few days!
If you are enjoying the adventure and would like to help support improving it along the way, you can kick a few coins to your favorite pirate here:

There are so many wonderful characteristics to the East of Puerto Rico, but one is certainly its friendliness to families. Families here find a freshness and candor in their clan. They strengthen bonds, like the ever-thickening vines of El Yunque. They welcome novelty, and sate curiosities. They find a fluency of fun; a symphony of kindred souls, good temper and open hearts. Here families are like unrhymed poetry, stanzas of sand, sun, sea and rainforest. You can’t undo the rainbow here, but you can slide it down into a fragment of paradise. Puerto Rico is a kid’s paradise. The weather is perfect; it’s safe; it’s healthy, and there are so many wonderful things for kids and families to do. We check-out the 2.4-acre Coqui Water Park, a font of wading pools, slides and water rides, a jungle-type rope bridge, and a lazy river. At the spectacular beaches kids can swim, body surf, snorkel, and play to heart’s content. There are hikes in all sorts of terrain, and many resorts that cater to families.

SAN JUAN VLOG !!!!! ????Rainforest Tour ‼️
GoodWinds and GoodTimes in PR
Here's my first kite video after joining the North Kiteboarding USA National Team this past fall! I'm incredibly stoked on the amazing gear this year, just like every year in the past, (as I have always ridden North since I started kiting.) This winter I've been riding the DICE and a TeamSeries in flatwater, and the DICE and the ProSeries in the waves and I am absolutely loving both combos!
Check them out at: northkites.com
I had a stellar winter season in Puerto Rico enjoying GoodWinds and GoodTimes with some amazing people and new friends! I worked at GOODWINDS in Dorado, PR, which is, in my opinion, the finest luxury kiteboarding resort in the Caribbean! GOODWINDS is the Caribbean's Premier Kitesurf School and Watersports center based in Dorado Beach Resort, Puerto Rico, and is located in a 5-Star Ritz Carlton Reserve, surrounded by four award winning golf courses, tropical Caribbean water, world class waves and steady trade winds! You have got to get down there and check it out for your next vacation!

ABOUT FOOD AND FOOTPRINTS:
We are Greg and Jumi, hailing from opposite ends of the globe. Greg is a native New Yorker who was born and raised in Queens NYC and Jumi grew up in the beautiful islands of the Visayas region of the Philippines.
How did we meet? One of us messaged the other on Instagram (before sliding in DM's was even possible through the app!) and we met just after Hurricane Sandy hit NYC in October 2012. Although we grew up in two very different worlds, we bonded over a love of experiences over material things, delicious food and exploration.
We have visited 15+ countries together since December 2014 exploring beaches, ancient temples, bustling streets and ruins. Along the way, we get adrenaline flowing whether paragliding, ziplining, or jetskiing.
To fuel up for our adventures (and everyday life), we eat lots of local food wherever we are. Street food, carts, trucks, hidden gems and family-run sit-downs are our mainstays. We don't cook, but prefer to spend our money on experiences and we treat food as one. Hey, we gotta eat regardless, right? May as well enjoy it and support good businesses while we're at it!
All of this is done while we work full-time at our day jobs. How do we do it? Follow along our journeys and you will learn more. Welcome to our lifestyle!

Cost of Living in Puerto Rico | Monthly Home Expenses Palmas del Mar Community - Audio Remix
Thanks for all your feedback, this video is now remixed for improved audio - ENJOY!
Before you pack up and move to Puerto Rico, you probably want to know about Cost of Living, Safety, Healthcare, and a million other details!
Start here if you are thinking about Moving to Puerto Rico. Information on Cost of Living for Housing, Utilities, Groceries, Transportation, Healthcare -
After touring multiple areas of the island, we moved to Palmas del Mar resort community on the Southeast coast of the island. These are our actual costs, plus a home comparison of 3 bedroom options around the neighborhood.
Our actual utility expenses, based on 2 adults and the occasional house guest are:
Water (Palmas Del Mar has a private water utility) $90/month
Liberty Cable internet $100/month
Satellite internet (as a backup) from HughesNet $100/month
Electricity is around $230/month based on 23 cents/kWh, compared to average 13 cents/kWh in mainland United States.
All housing costs and expenses will vary based on our needs and behaviors. These are my actual expenses, and a comparison of a wide range of housing costs for three bedroom furnished rentals. Unfurnished homes will be less expenses, and homes outside of gated resort communities are less expensive, as well.
Housing prices are as of May 2019, when this video was filmed. Actual houses available and housing prices may vary due to normal market conditions. All housing prices quoted are based on a 12 month lease or longer for a furnished and equipped home in Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico.

Best Golfing in Puerto Rico
Read on:
Golf here dates to 1958, when Laurance Rockefeller, a pioneer in barefoot elegance, built a resort in Dorado and hired Robert Trent Jones to design its fabled East Course. Now Puerto Rico has 23 courses designed by legendary golf pros. We try out the Ocean Course at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort, and then the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club with Chi Chi Rodriguez, first Puerto Rican inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. We also tool around the Royal Isabela, the Pebble Beach of the Caribbean, which sprawls at the edge of a 300'-high bluff overlooking the crashing Atlantic, looking more like a link course at the edge of Ireland than a tropical fairway.
Lisa Niver and I hit the green at the Wyndham Grand Rio Bar and get the chance to play Jesus Rodriguez's favorite hole. He then insists we meet his brother, the world famous golf hall-of-famer Chi Chi Rodriguez.

GUAN - Guanica Forest, NEON Terrestrial Field Site | Puerto Rico
Located along the southern coast of Puerto Rico, the Guanica Dry Forest reserve is the largest remaining tract of tropical dry coastal forest in the world. This fieldsite covers an area of 28 square kilometers and consists of mostly upland deciduous forest, semi-evergreen forest and scrub closer to the shore. A 72’ flux tower collects meteorological data. Soil sensors collect below ground measurements and NEON scientists conduct field observations of plants and animals.

TROPICAL WEATHER - FROM CALM TO CRAZY [Adventure #116]
The tropics aren’t all sunshine and calm seas… Offshore from Central America we sail through some crazy lightning storms, rain squalls, and then have dead calm periods in between. Even calm enough for us to jump in and go spear fishing in the middle of the ocean to catch a dorado! We also come across several turtles in distress as a result of plastic pollution.
