This Pacific Baza, Aviceda subcristata, or Crested Hawk was with a mate searching for a nesting site. The site will be selected only if suitable prey are found. They hunt in the canopy of tall trees by diving with wings folded back into the canopy, for stick insects, frogs. Sometimes they hunt in groups of 8-12 individuals. They can easily be heard crashing into the canopy.

This little bird was filmed from 3 metres away, whilst bathing in a Piccabeen palm frond that had fallen on the forest floor becoming a convenient bird bath. Filming was difficult as the bird is small and very active.
