Trouble in the Trossachs. Aberfoyle MTB, steep and technical.
A day out exploring some of the trails around Aberfoyle. Started with a steep technical black run before warming up which didn't work out as planned. I then moved over by Go Ape and tried some of the red and blue trails. Next time I'll finish on the Black runs and I'll know what to expect.
After starting I realised Strava wasn't working properly and my gps beacon couldn't be traced. In hindsight riding solo on those trails wasn't perhaps the best idea without anyone knowing where you are. I noticed a few man size shapes on the steep slopes by the corners and managed to add the that collection after getting caught in a steep rut.
As I traverse the hill about 3.40 you can get a better idea of how steep the run is to the left.
I also tackled the Go Ape red descents but had mud all over my lens and forgot to check before them.
As a reckie mission it was good and has thrown up a few learning points which I'll hopfully address on the next visit here. Definitely not starting on the black runs then.
If you are looking for food after the ride I had a good double cheeseburger from the local butcher which I can highly recommend and was very reasonable for a touristy town.
After that I visited the local bike shop and had a coffee and chat with Ross the mechanic who cleaned my bike and has given my a few pointers for other trails to try. Very helpful staff worth stopping by if you are visiting.
You can check out their website here if looking to hire bikes for the mellower tourist routes.
Hill Walks in Pictures. The Menteith Hills in the Trossachs
A short walk in the heather covered Menteith Hills near Aberfoyle in the Scottish Trossachs. The heather may be bonny and purple, but it's not exactly walker friendly. Still, this walk is less than an hours drive from Glasgow, so you're not too far from a hospital where you can get a new pair of knees!

On a stretch of Route 7 of the National Cycle Network (Sustrans), near Lochearnhead, Scotland. Eastern edge of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Traffic-free as you can see, but it's a dirt track, quite bumpy at times.

Doon Hill, Aberfoyle and Bracklinn Falls, Callander, August 2019
A couple of weeks ago we walked p Doon Hill again, love it here, Aberfoyle is my favourite place, been coming here for years and years.
Then we went along to Bracklinn Falls in Callander. Didn't walk the full loop as Spike had hurt his knee so just a couple of easy walks.

Loch Katrine Cycle Route 2011
A cycle on Loch Katrine's not so flat cycle route. Our wee folding bikes with only six gears were just not up to tackling some of the more steeper hills. We only rode about ten miles along till we turned back.

Go with the Flow! Longest MTB flow trail descent in the UK. Full red descent with black features.
Go with the flow! The longest flow trail descent in the UK. Over 6km of man made trail descending through some fine Scottish scenery in the Glenlivet Estate part of the Cairngorm national park in the Scottish Highlands. The big red descent is part or a larger 22km red trail that is ever expanding. I started at the car park by the cafe and made my way to the blue and red trail which lead me the climb to the top. I decided not to include most of this footage on the way there and back (may include this in a separate video if requested) but instead concentrated on the big red descent itself. It was my first time here and definitely not my last. Fast flowy trails through the forrest and hillside with black and red optional features on the way to keep you on your toes. Plans are also in the mix to expand on these well maintained trails to offer new lines and features. Well worth a visit and these MTB trails are not the only trails this area is famous for as it's situated in the heart of the malt Whisky trail which takes in dozens of world renowned distilleries in the Speyside region.
Here's hoping a new tenant will take over the cafe and they can build on what are already excellent facilities. Also worth mentioning that there is good pump track and skills area to warm up on before hitting the trails.
