Cowichan Bay Road submerged by flooding
COWICHAN BAY -- A road in Cowichan Bay is finally emerging from several days underwater, which at this time is not that unusual.
Locals say the road floods like clockwork when melting snow teams up with winter rains. Finding a detour route or testing their trucks or cars in the water is never a surprise to locals, but what they say is shocking is the province is not doing anything to fix it.

Weekend Getaway Ideas Vancouver Island - Cowichan Bay Kayaking and Adventure Centre
Come to Cowichan Bay at the end of the Cowichan Valley watershed for a magical weekend or short visit to relax and get out in the incredible forest and sea ecosystems that are hallmarks of The Warmland. Summer gets you out into the water on the bay in kayaks, canoes, SUPs or pedal boats, or into the wineries and breweries for the tasty craft beers and wines. During Autumn, Winter and Spring Cowichan Estuary and Somenos Marsh are some of the best birding areas in Canada. This estuary is one of the most active raptor areas on the planet, and a stopping ground for many, many migratory birds on their way south or north. Whales and other large sea mammals frequent our waters here. We have seals from Spring through Summer, sea lions in the Autumn, and Orca whales appear sporadically looking for salmon or seals, depending on whether they are residents or transients.
Cowichan Bay has unique accommodations, from on water guest houses, to B&Bs, to resorts. Stay in the Bay and walk around to the variety of restaurants serving the area, then dessert with locally made ice cream at Udder Guys, or organic baked goods at True Grain Breads. These are great treats after a paddle in a rented kayak or canoe or a tour. Cowichan Bay Kayaking and Adventure Centre offers rentals and tours in and around the estuary. They can take you on the water to see the bay, or out birding and wildlife viewing. Evening tours are popular, leisurely paddling out to see the sunset and exploring the shore as the sky darkens to illuminate the bioluminescence that sparkles in the wake of kayak and paddle. If you are coming to Vancouver Island to explore or get away for a few days, come to Cowichan Valley and let Cowichan Bay Kayaking and Coastal Bliss Adventures give you the Warmland, or Cowichan experience.
