National Geographic Documentary - Wildlife of animals at Mount Kilimanjaro - Wildlife Animals
In eastern Africa, a chain of magnificent volcanoes blister the face of the earth. Some are dead, others sleep and at least one is very much alive. There’s the Black Mountain, the Sacred Mountain and, most famous of all, an icon of Africa, the Great White Mountain – Kilimanjaro.
The largest and most impressive of all the animals that live on and around the Great White Mountain are elephants. Images of these great beasts with Kilimanjaro’s white summit as a backdrop are renowned across the globe. Much less familiar are the shy and rarely seen elephants that dwell in the high forests.
In the past elephants roamed freely up and down the mountain. Now they run a treacherous gauntlet as more and more of the slopes are cultivated. When tempted by succulent crops wild animals, including elephants and monkeys, face poisoned traps, snares and spears.

Moshi, Kilimanjaro Tz , the most clean district in Tanzania
Moshi is a town in northern Tanzania, near the Kenyan border. It's known as a gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Trails run up the mountain’s cloud-ringed, snow-capped dome, through alpine forests and meadows home to elephants and leopards. One of Tanzania's major coffee-producing hubs, Moshi is known for its coffee farms and auctions.

Ever since traveling for me meant to be active. I was taking on new outdoor challenges every year from skiing in the Alps to rafting in South America, Biking trips in North America and several multi-day trekking adventures in places like Patagonia, Peru or Kyrgyzstan. This year I was ready for the next step: climbing one of the seven summits. When G Adventures asked me to become part of their Wanderers program I saw my chance to take on the highest mountain in Africa as one of their brand ambassadors….but little did I know how hard this endeavour would be….
Unlike other trips this one started actually 5 months before the first day of trekking…I worked on my fitness, changed my diet and did a lot of research on Mt. Kilimanjaro. I decided to take on the Lemosho route which is 56 kilometers long and takes altogether 8 days - my decision was based on 2 reasons: one was the fact that the itinerary of this route is the best for acclimatization of the body to the high altitude and the resulting high summit success rate (which is at 96% for G Adventures), the other reason is the beauty of the route which is often described as the most picturesque and spectacular of all popular routes.
Located in North East Tanzania Mount Kilimanjaro is with 5895m the highest mountain in Africa which makes it one of the seven summits. Apart from that it is also the highest free standing mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano with three three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and „Shira“. The highest point is located on Kibo - after the independence of Tanzania it was named Uhuru Peak in 1964 - which is Kiswhali and translates into „freedom Peak“.
--About my Cooperation with G Adventures--
For many years I was searching for a suitable partner who offers outdoor tours which align with my style of traveling as well as my values. After many meetings I’m glad I found this partner with G Adventures who offer many adventurous tour packages for travelers like me…but who also care about the environment and local communities in order to execute sustainable tourism. I forced this cooperation because I like the products and the philosophy of the company. Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.

Summit of Mount Kilimanjaro brings something else too
This is our last (and longest) day of our climb to the roof of Africa, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The summit brings something else too.
Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp – Tanzania
Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp
How fortunate we are to share this protected space with one of the most majestic tribes in the world - the proud Maasai, still living their ancient ways up in the thin crisp air of the Ngorongoro Highlands
The Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp respects this space and incorporates the Maasai into much of the activities of this Tortilis Camp. Our Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp is a special oasis nestled under a forest canopy at the end of a valley. A magical place of dappled light, surrounded by the lushest green vegetation, and buzzing with an energy of this high altitude wonderland.
Just 13km away is the Ngorongoro crater rim. The crater itself is a must-visit wonder of nature, but you’ll be happy to be staying away from the cold and mist which envelops the crater rim for much of the year.
This Tortilis Camp has many activities to enjoy. Join the Maasai staff for a hike to the top of Mount Makarot a steep and exciting challenge with a peak over 3100m and when you reach the summit enjoy the rewards with spectacular views of the Serengeti, a peek into the Ngorongoro crater, and, on a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
On offer too is an authentic Maasai wedding with the local tribe. A pulsating experience and unique spectacle with you and your partner at the very centre of it all.

Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania Africa Travel Video
Swahili Kilimanjaro means shining mountain - a very appropriate name for this colossal volcano covered with a snow-white cap. It is the highest peak in Africa - 5899 m height; it is clearly visible for many miles around the sprawling savannah of Tanzania and Kenya. Its contours are very characteristic: gentle slopes rise to elongated, flat top, which is actually a giant caldera - basin on top of the volcano.
On very hot days, from a distance a bluish base of the mountain is indistinguishable on the background of Savannah and it seems that the snow-capped peaks hover in the air. Light clouds, often extending below the snow line, enhance the illusion.
Mount Kilimanjaro is located on an area of 97 km. in length and 64 km. wide and is so great that even can form their own climate. (This is true for many other big mountains like Mount McKinley in Alaska and Mount Everest in the Himalayas.) Moist winds from the Indian Ocean, forced bumping Kilimanjaro, giving borne water in the form of rain or snow. High rainfall means that vegetation on Kilimanjaro itself, especially on the lower parts of its slopes significantly different from the semi-desert skreba surrounding the mountain. On the lower slopes of the mountain grown coffee and corn, and up to an altitude of about 3000 m. Growing rainforest. And even higher, at about 4400 m, alpine meadows are replaced by lichens and mosses.
At the top of Mount Kilimanjaro are eternal ice, which is surprising, since it is only three degrees south of the equator. However, these recent studies show that the ice slowly recede. On top of the mountain falls only 200 mm of rainfall per year, and this is not enough to compensate for the amount of water lost during snowmelt.
Some scientists believe that the volcano again warmed up and it accelerates its melting snow caps, while others believe that the blame for the global warming of the Earth. Whatever the reason, the glaciers of Kilimanjaro are now unquestionably less than they were in the last century, and it is possible to predict that if such rate of warming continues, Kilimanjaro will lose its ice cap by 2200.
In fact, Mount Kilimanjaro is composed of three separate volcanic eruptions combined complex history. Ancient volcanoes, Shira, lies to the west of the main mountain. Once it was much higher, and are believed to be collapsed after a very powerful eruption, leaving only a plateau 3810m. The second age of the volcano - Mawenzi - currently visible in the form of a peak adjacent to the eastern side of the main mountain. Although close to the summit of Kilimanjaro, he seems small, it reaches a height of 5334 m.
Junior and the largest of the three volcanoes Kibo, formed during a series of eruptions and crowned caldera 2 kilometers. across. The second crater with a volcanic cone grew inside the caldera during a subsequent eruption, and later, during the third eruption inside the crater formed Ash cone. Colossal Kibo caldera forms a characteristic flat top of this beautiful African mountain.
