Trump International Golf Club Scotland Limited and another (Appellants) v The Scottish Ministers (Respondents)

On 1 August 2011 Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Limited applied for consent under s.36 of the Electricity Act 1989 for the construction and operation of an electricity generating station and wind turbine / tower and turbine testing project called the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, to be located off the coast of Blackdog, Aberdeenshire. On 26 March 2013 the respondents granted consent for the wind farm, subject to conditions. Condition 14 requires the submission of a detailed Design Statement to the respondents for approval prior to commencement of the development. The appellants, whose Menie Golf Course is situated within 3.5 km of the nearest proposed wind turbine, opposed the construction of the wind farm. The appellants brought proceedings seeking a declarator that the respondents' decision was unlawful and they sought reduction. The appellants' petition for judicial review was dismissed by the Outer House of the Court of Session. A Reclaiming Motion was refused by the Inner House of the Court of Session. The appellants appealed to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court unanimously dismisses the appeal by Trump International Golf Club.

Complementary round of golf the caddies received at the end of the season, from all the rounds I've caddied I can say it's one to play, really challenging and can play very long.
People can say what they want of Mr. Trump but there's no doubting this is one of the best courses I've walked and played, and Aberdeen has a lot to thank him for.

Donald Trump to buy Turnberry golf course in Scotland
American developer Donald Trump announced the expansion of his golf empire on Thursday with his biggest acquisition yet, the Turnberry course on the west coast of Scotland.
Trump announced that he had agreed to buy the picturesque links course and resort which has hosted the British Open golf tournament four times.
The most recent was in 2009, when Stewart Cink won a playoff over 59-year-old Tom Watson.
The most famous was in 1977, the Duel in the Sun that featured Watson defeating Jack Nicklaus.
I do well with this business. My clubs are very, very successful, said Trump.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but British newspaper, the Independent, reported that Trump paid Dubai-based Leisurecorp just over 63 million US dollars.
Turnberry will be the 17th golf property owned by Trump, including 12 in the United States.

Donald Trump made an off the campaign trail stop to one of his golf resorts in Scotland. However politics weren’t far away as he forgave the 50 million dollars he loaned to his campaign and announced that with his matching funds a 48 hour online drive this week netted five million dollars.
Trump's Scotland golf course plans to expand
(19 Jan 2017) Donald Trump has vowed his company will do no new foreign deals while he is president. But he's left new and deals open to interpretation.
Now those words are drawing scrutiny as his company confirms plans to expand its golf resort near Aberdeen, Scotland, raising concerns about conflicts of interest.
A spokeswoman for the resort says the expansion is not a new deal, but just another construction phase that was included in the broad plan approved by the local government in 2008.
Some lawyers who specialize in government ethics aren't convinced.
Richard Painter, who served as chief ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush, said there are so many pending issues before local governments at each stage of a real estate project, it's like a new deal every time.
The Trump Organization did not respond to requests for comment, except for the brief statement from its resort spokeswoman.

That's what Donald Trump wants to build on this stretch of Scottish coastline.
After a 4-year fight, the billionaire developer won project approval from the Aberdeenshire Council Tuesday night -- beating opponents who wanted to protect 7 species of rare birds.

I never really understood how people who want to protect birds were opposed to our job. Because it's really a hunting ground for birds and won't be once we do our project.
Trump also says the development will win over residents in the nearby village of Balmedie (BALL-MEEDIE), who don't want their quiet community disrupted.
SOT -- TRUMP
We're going to do a really beautiful job, spend billions of dollars and create lots of jobs and create also a lot of tourism for Scotland ... We think in a short period of time we'll be really happy, most people supported the job anyway, but I think even the ones who didn't will love what we do.
The proposal still requires approval from the Scottish government, which is expected to decide in January.

Donald Trump is building more momentum as his campaign recently won the New York primary, but his perception outside the United States is not the most favorable in some countries, like that of Scotland. HBO’s Real Sports recently took a trip to the home of golf and interviewed multiple parties in relation to the promises Trump was unable to keep when it came to making golf in Scotland “great again”.
Salmond is sour that many of the rewards his country was supposed to reap from Trump International Golf Links never materialized. Prior to its opening, Trump, in a red cap, said his links course was going to make Scotland great again. He promised billions of dollars and thousands of jobs and many terrific things, similar to what Trump is promising here.”
