THE ECLIPSE! as seen from Madisonville Tennessee 2017
We drove to Madisonville Tennessee on August 21 2017 to see the eclipse in all its glory. We got to witness nearly a total eclipse by driving to this location in TN. I knew, while driving up, that it was going to be a special event but I had no idea just how awesome it would be. Before the eclipse was complete, the cicadas starting their summer dusk songs. It almost looked like evening outside but not quite. For how dark it was, we looked down and found our crisp shadows staring back up at us. All the lights of the stores started turning on and before we knew it, everyone started cheering and clapping as the eclipse was completed. As I looked around at my wife and children and family and friends, the cheers from all the strangers in the dark was a comforting sound, just like the cicadas' song. For the first time in a long time, I felt like our species might stick around for a little longer just yet. For about two minutes, in the hot parking lot of a Madison county Walmart, I heard the political winds of division go quiet. And surrounded by people I love I could only smile as I felt the entire country staring up in solidarity.
