The story of the modernization of Hokkaido cannot be told without us first sharing the history of ‘Kabato Road’ and the stories of the actions of prisoners who were important pioneers. It is also important to talk about coal mining which once played a key role in Japan’s industrialization. This historical video documentary realistically depicts the present conditions of three main cities Iwamizawa city, Mikasa city, Bibai city, and Tsukigata town – each of which surround ‘Kabato Road’. It highlights the new tourism-themed challenges faced by these three cities in the wake of its former glory. We now open the door to the history of Hokkaido, 150 years after it was so named. This depiction is presented by Los Angeles based film director, Mr. Kurando Mitsutake and narrator, Mr. Ryo Ishibashi an internationally renowned actor.
