Tsumago-juku is a town located in Nagiso, Nagano prefecture and flourished as a shukuba machi (post town) on Nakasendo (Central Mountain Route) in Edo-era.
Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku, which is a next post town, are popular sightseeing spots of Kisoji.
Tsumago-juku still preserves classical buildings and atmosphere of old times.
We saw a cute cat and many swallows. They seemed to love this town too.

Gassho Zukuri

Gassho Zukuri is a Japanese architectural design of farmhouse referring to the steep of the roof like the shape of hands pressing together as in prayer. It is a unique architectural design to withstand of the snow during winter season. This Gassho can be found in Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, in the mountain of Gifu and Toyama prefecture.
This Gassho styled houses become a famous attraction of tourist who are visiting Japan.
